I wanted Cameron (and Clegg) to succeed.

I wanted Theresa May to succeed.

I wanted Boris Johnson to succeed.

I wanted Liz Truss to succeed

I wanted Rishi Sunak to succeed.

I wanted Keir Starmer to succeed

I want Andy Burham to succeed.

I would happily be considered a poltroon and a flibbertigibbet for the few remaining years of my time on this awesome planet if any or all of them could succeed so that the hungry are fed, our children are safe, no one wants for shelter and we can look to export happiness, not division.

He has been PM for six hours already now. Time for another change.

Sir David Attenborough wants his turn and he hasn't got long.

Nothing about the £3 trillion of debt
Nothing about uncontrolled immigration
Nothing about AI
Nothing about surging youth unemployment
Nothing about anything that actually matters

Hot air and entirely empty of all substance.

He mentioned education. Which is absolutely key to dealing with youth unemployment.

Immigration isn't uncontrolled, so no wonder he didn't mention it. It is in fact very substantially decreased. Oh, those pesky facts!

What did you want to hear about AI?

Just sayin'.

illbeyourperfectmrs · 20/07/2026 17:02

Well, shit.

I didn’t expect that sort of a cabinet reshuffle

illbeyourperfectmrs · 20/07/2026 17:02

Efacsen · 20/07/2026 16:33

Lord Hermer departs as attorney-general

Departs is doing some rather heavy lifting there!

Nobody expects the Spanish Inquisition

Spandauer · 20/07/2026 17:03

Caught up with all the thread now.

The sentiment of the new title didn't last very long did it? 😶

SerendipityJane · 20/07/2026 17:03

Nobody expects the Spanish Inquisition

Very true.

To be honest as harsh as it is for some of them it was well needed. Anyone who got the job under Starmer will be tainted, unfortunately for them.

I'd like to say thanks for the new thread but it's already pages long! Exciting to be on to the 1st of a new season.

I'm just reminding myself not to engage with posters with a particular drum to bang, it's just not worth it.

indeed.

Reform voters make me laugh. Whenever anyone is given anything they talk about the homeless Brits on the street.

when someone does something to tackle homelessness, it doesn’t really matter.

That one makes me laugh so much. She looks like I feel when DS2 is jammering 😂

SummerPeonies2026 · 20/07/2026 17:08

Interesting that even Reeves from customer service turned down a cabinet job, this does not bode well - at all.

They are busy trying to plug the gap apparently, hence the delay. Not the most inspiring start. The wheels are already coming off.

Can I stick my head in please? I’m the same age as Andy Burnham , I feel a bit invested in his success.

Taken a break from any political threads post the disaster that is Brexit but I think my blood pressure can cope with dipping in a bit now. Many thanks 😊

pointythings · 20/07/2026 17:15

I used to like peonies. I've gone off them now.

Zonder · 20/07/2026 17:16

Excellent posts @Cheguevarahamster and @TemperanceWest I shall bear those in mind.

Welcome. These threads are usually hypertensive therapy, we’re having a bit of an off day today

Piggywaspushed · 20/07/2026 17:17

I would have thought yon other lot would be delighted that Lammy and Reeves have gone . I guess they are holding fire for the Rayner announcement.

Personally, I really hope Diane Abbott gets the whip restored.

Notonthestairs · 20/07/2026 17:18

I can understand that Seaitoverthere. And if the country hadn't been dragged through 'the disaster that is Brexit' the Government might have spent more time and money on fixing stuff.

Yes you must all do as you are told. Good old muzzling socialism 😱

Zonder · 20/07/2026 17:22

Watching on the BBC News channel. They're letting Andrew Neil spout rubbish for far too long.
