From what I have seen Mamdani is no Communist. I would not even call him a socialist. A Democratic Socialist for sure, but that is not a socialist.

Trump just labels everyone to the left of the Austrian Corporal as commies. I don't even think he knows what a communist is. Then again, I don't really know what communism is, and I live in a Communist country. In fact, communists can't seem to agree what communism is. So they are stuck in an endless half way house called socialism, while they try to figure out what communism is. And the paradox is, I think, that they can't declare an actual communist state, because in communism there is no state.

And yeah.... I am about to be flamed :-)

No, I don’t think that Mamdani is actually a Communist at all, I actually really like what I’ve heard about him. But he definitely fits the description of what Trump would call a Communist!

I think I might upgrade it to a 7-8 if something really 'agitates' him between now and Tuesday. And I hope it does. I know it's disrespectful of me to wish it at anyone's funeral, but I'd really love it if he went completely off piste in the worst way and mourners and those watching come away from it with huge eyes and a "WTF did I just hear???!!!". Or in the words of Dubya at the 2016 inauguration "Man, that was some crazy shit right there".

Hahaha! I'd love it if Graham had expressed a wish that at his death it's revealed that he's gay. Maybe that even a secret partner attends and sits with the family.

I know it's one of the worst kept secrets in DC, the GOP, and the MAGAverse, but I'd love for those last two to have their noses rubbed in it. And to watch them squirm in their denial.

Just adding....if Graham did have a secret partner I must admit to feeling some sympathy for them. To be hidden for who knows how long and then to be 'denied' the privilege of public mourning must be so hard.

ETA, it's currently unknown whether either Obama or Biden will attend the service. I have a feeling seeing either of them (or better both of them) in the pews will send Scrotus into a 'Level 10 Tizz'.

On woke, lefy, Liberalism - In the wake of the George Floyd protests and calls to defund the police, I had to point out to my gun owning BIL, that there was a difference between what the term meant in the UK vs US and that a Liberal Democrat wasn't the same as a US Liberal.

I think that elements of the Far Right response to certain issues eg immigration are bleeding into Fascism but wouldn't say that the UK gov't and people are Fascist.
However, No 10 North...is a wait and see for me.

It's not going to be straight forward. Trump will insert his own name into the eulogy repeatedly and if he decides to riff... he might bring up some 'bad' things, similar to what happened at the ceremony for the US military personnel who died recently.

I think Mamdani is definitely from the democratic socialist side with an interesting sprinkle of abundance theory. Mostly so far he seems more interested in government that works than wedded to a particular theory, which is refreshing.
