A chat thread for those who don't like this Labour government 💙

The problem with socialism is that you eventually run out of other people's money.

Urgh. How has Starmer taken responsibility? He sacked innocent people, and whipped his MPs to avoid scrutiny. His name was conveniently absent from the Mandelson files too. Fucking slimy toad.

God I despise Labour with every fibre.

Same. Just fuck off with that. ET trilling bollard said he took responsibility even according to her it was someone else, she blamed his chief of staff.

And no empty words don’t work over sacking a civil servant and whipping MPs.

AND THAT’S WHY PEOPLE HAVE GOT RID OF YOU, A SLIMY TOAD.

Apols for shouting on thread. Still a nice day. Labour can gtf though.

That is one of the - many - things that I think is so shameful about this Labour government. They are not the straight dealers they claim to be. They are not honest and open and put their hands up to mistakes or wrongdoing, as they say they are and do.

The hypocrisy and double-speak of Labour is nauseating. Maybe Burnham will be better, but I’m not holding my breath.

SapphireCasino · 09/07/2026 12:41

@Parsley4321 well it was very alarming to check on the thread and find people discussing stiffies 😳 thank goodness there's been an explanation 😂

@DancingFerret if Farage has played a blinder, I definitely can't see it. But that's what so surprising to me about this. I thought he was good at strategy so how could he possibly have made such a phenomenal error? There must be some kind of hidden benefit to it that I'm not aware of. I'm rubbish at strategy by the way! Have a lovely holiday.

Sad to hear the news about Bonnie Tyler. "total eclipse of the heart" is one of the first songs I remember. I was maybe eight or nine I thought it was remarkable! And my parents loved it.

What I didn't realise until today was that she did the original version of "don't turn around". I have listened to it and it's very lovely. You're all going to tell me you know this already aren't you? I don't know a huge amount about her or her body of work clearly, but that's very sad news. she will be remembered for sure.

Shout away.

It was quite clear from the beginning that ET wanted ALL of the blame to fall on McSweeney. Poor innocent Starmer had nothing to do with it dontcha know.
Was McSweeney also responsible for Matthew Doyle being elevated to the Lords, despite him also being a friend of a paedophile? Pull the other one, its got bells on.

But hey, don't talk about that, let's all talk about Farage instead. Thats obv far more important than the behaviour of the actual government.

Fuck off Labour, then fuck off some more.

@SapphireCasino

I'm ignoring Farage again so I haven't given your first point any thought.
Very sad news about Bonnie Tyler. She was fantastic. ❤️

Given how slippery and willing to go with the prevailing wind Burnham is, I wouldn’t hold out much hope that he’ll be an improvement.

Don't you know, we're only allowed to think / talk about one thing at once?

Any attempt to discuss anything else is whataboutery. They'd hate to hear some of my offline conversations. Tangent central! 🤣

Yep. Lots of sweeping under the carpet. Sod them. He deserves being ousted.

I bloody hate Millipede I could cry for the loss of 4000 acres of farming land.

Solar panels in a field

Huge solar farm approved on Nottinghamshire and Lincolnshire border

The solar farm is set to cover 1,600 hectares (3,954 acres) either side of the River Trent.

Agree
developers should be forced to put them on buildings

I saw something about car park solar panels, where they essentially build giant gazebos for the cars to park under, and cover them in solar panels. Sounds like the ideal solution, as the area over the cars is wasted space really.

Yes I saw similar although the proposal I saw was a car park that was part of a huge solar panel farm
oh dear !

The theory though is great
Every new structure could generate solar

Yes, I saw that

Why don't we do that, does anyone know? Also, there are lots of roof options, aren't there? Rather than using fields. I'm assuming there's some kind of practical answer related to all the hardware needed to convert into power.

Yes. Surely there are loads of existing spaces (or ones which could be created on existing space, like the car park roof idea) which could be utilised? Using farmland is batshit fucking crazy.

It’s cheaper to put them on farmland
not good enough excuse imo

They are required to put them on 40% of roof space ( full introduction not until 2029 ) but not if shaded

I worked on a planning app with the clients insisting no south facing roof space
Wonder why they want that !!!

SapphireCasino · 09/07/2026 21:10

@FreedomandPeace you mean the clients are worried they'll be approached for use of the roof?

Ultimately, I suppose if farmers are willing to sell the land or lease the land then there's not really a lot that can be done. Because if they weren't offering it up for this, they would be offering it up for other things? I don't know - I'm just thinking aloud.

I feel as if there is a ton of stuff in commerce and economics that I ought to know, but I don't!

I saw something similar. They said retailers in the UK had been excited about the idea, but gave up when they realised how expensive it would be do to all the different planning permissions.

Ereshkigalangcleg · 09/07/2026 22:12

Car park idea is excellent, and should be grants, subsidies etc available for businesses that do it.

No
The clients won’t be approached
If roofs don’t face south the developers can exempt themselves because south is the best way for solars to face

Its to avoid the requirement to put sola panels on

SapphireCasino · 09/07/2026 23:35

I think new builds have to be reinforced for solar panels to be installed on the roof because of their weight

I might have old information here though.

NoWordForFluffy · 10/07/2026 07:54

I really want solar panels but DH isn't keen. I reckon we'd do well as we face directly south. We're in a new build, but I don't know if our roof is reinforced ready to go.

There should be bloody incentives for shopping centres etc to utilise the dead space above cars for solar panels, not prohibitive costs. What exactly is the fucking point of Miliband? He's utterly useless.

I'm suspicious as to how he benefits from this uselessness too.

Because we as a nation are thick and lack creativity and taste.
Re car park / solar panels.

Ed Milliband as has been shown by a previous link is neck deep in companies based on net zero. He should not be allowed anywhere near anything to do with net zero and refusing to give up his budget for our safety surely is a treasonable offence? It's been said time and time again that the billions and billions he has ear marked for carbon capture is gambling it's not a proven scheme and he his pal...head and founder of octopus enegery said he needs to stop it.

So apparently we send 50 million to pakistan in aid ? I've just been reading about the man called "daddy " let out of our jails after 14 years of a 22 years sentence and we can't deport him .
Why oh why are we giving Pakistan 50 millions of aid?? .

WhatFreshHelll · 10/07/2026 08:45
  • id happily have solar panels in the future but at the moment they seem to pose a fire risk
