A chat thread for those who don't like this Labour government 💙

The problem with socialism is that you eventually run out of other people's money.

That is actually quite amusing! 🤣

It is. I wonder if Reeves is actually more fun as a person than we knew. Terrible Chancellor, but possibly a good dinner guest.

Parsley4321 · 09/07/2026 07:37

@DenizenOfAisleOfShame i can’t imagine her mantelpiece is awash with stiffies can you ?
@Nuthatch26 a lovely crush 🤣
@MellowZebra i haven’t watched it I don’t think I have the stomach 😭

NoWordForFluffy · 09/07/2026 08:56

@Parsley4321...stiffies? Do you mean fancy thick card invitations? Cause a stiffie is something else entirely round these parts! 😳🤣

@DenizenOfAisleOfShame, maybe she's finding her fun side as she's able to relax knowing she's being released from the chancellor job soon!

Does anyone know what happens if everyone else withdraws from the race?

All jokes aside it seems so incredibly unfair that the people of Clacton actually have to go through this.

I realise Farage would be too embarrassed to withdraw his resignation so I'm wondering if there's any kind of mechanism for an emergency, to get people represented.

Agree I would be so pissed off wasting money on this just as I thought the Burnham election was a bad move also.
However once the jokes have subsided I think people need to be careful ( in hoc) ridiculing him further!

I got Parsley’s meaning, though I did smile at the other possibility.

I doubt Reeves is relaxed. That will come after she’s been shuffled out and has hung up her pink trouser suits (which I rather like).

Good morning 😁. Hope you're all enjoying some warm weather.

A lovely word salad, could easily have been written by Starmer. No mention of how to pay for any of it of course. Same old.

That is a brilliant example of meaningless dross. If he’s signalling anything I think it must be that he will improve defence through cyber resilience, which is course cheaper than tanks, missiles and ships, and cheaper than recruiting servicemen and -women to operate them.

We’re in for a lot of this guff. One thing about Burnham that has been little remarked on is his infinite capacity to bullshit.

NoWordForFluffy · 09/07/2026 09:14

Interesting that he mentions AI though, after his aide (I think) said he wasn't interested in it. Maybe he's fully briefed now!

So true. That sums him up perfectly.

The comments on the article are good. Almost all saying the same.

Nah, he just says what you want to hear. Someone probably told him to mention AI.

He's very good at talking about buses though, all is well 🙄

Starmer doing the usual and putting a high amount in HoL, after all that stuff about abolishing it. We now have the largest second chamber in the world. Stig annoyed at his hypocrisy.

This is damning from the foreign affairs committee. They also found no evidence that any mitigations were put in place despite knowing what Mandelson had been up to. How dare Bollard sack Olly Robbins.

Thanks for this. They are so bent.

And bollard sacking Olly Robbins as a way to get out and whipping MPs against further scrutiny.

The foreign affairs committee found Mandelson’s appointment had been “nothing short of disastrous” and found Downing Street had created a “generally dismissive attitude” towards the vetting process.

And still threads filled up with the usual defending bollard.

I'm going to be dipping in and out for the next 10 days. We're having a break and had planned to see DH's family in France, but my MIL said it's stupidly hot and we'd be better going north. So we have - and Yorkshire's as hot as Hampshire.🙄😅. We're planning this morning in Helmsley and a drive to Robin Hood's Bay this afternoon before heading to Scotland tomorrow.

It's the Clacton by-election I'm focusing on right now. I can't decide if Farage is playing a blinder or is throwing his toys out of the pram as a distraction.

EasternStandard · 09/07/2026 10:35

Just heard Thornberry STILL shelter bollard saying he took responsibility. Er no he sacked a decent civil servant to pass the buck.

I’m so glad bollard is losing his job.

I cannot see a blinder being played. He should have toughed it out with the standards probe. Calling a by-election and all the criticism and ridicule that go with that will end up haunting him forever.

I’m not sure on the crazy saga, it could backfire or not, will see what happens.

Urgh. How has Starmer taken responsibility? He sacked innocent people, and whipped his MPs to avoid scrutiny. His name was conveniently absent from the Mandelson files too. Fucking slimy toad.

God I despise Labour with every fibre.
