It's all very silly. No-one knows how our ex first minister made his millions and noone has asked. Same with quite a few MPs I suspect.

AFAIK none of the Tories or Labour or Restore are putting anyone up. It genuinely could be a Binface win over Farage!

She put up a candidate in Makerfield which was a set/piece and got annihilated.
She doesn’t want to lose another deposit.
Disappointing that she has joined the boys club. I have lost the respect that I was gaining for her.

There's no comparison to Makerfield as far as the Conservatives are concerned. They never do well up here, but they got almost 30% of the vote in Clacton, coming second to Farage.

Kemi has said they will stand a candidate if there is a proper by-election after the investigation. Same for Restore, and presumably the other parties too.
Nobody is running scared, they just think its a farce.
Fwiw, I think Farage will win, and then win again if there are two by elections.

But I thought he spoke very well about the importance of Count Binface. He shook his hand very seriously at the last mayoral election count - although you could see him try not to laugh - but he explained it after... he said he felt it was genuinely important to respect the political process and the novelty candidates, the protest candidates etc are actually a really important part of that process

I remember the really ugly campaign when Zach Goldsmith stood against Khan and refused to shake hands at the end. I dislike that enormously. And however much candidates dislike each other, there is surely something about sportsmanship and fair play here.

They can't call it off as they don't have an MP until it happens. Apparently the Greens have also stood down from Clacton. So Binface v Farage... 🍿

I think they're all correct not to stand in this sham by election. Shame on Farage for trying to dodge the financial investigations into on him. Screams of guilt to me.

Lawrence Fox is now saying he's going to stand 🙄 He posted on X. I think he will probably change his mind though. Probably wants to make a point about the ridiculousness of the political process but that point is made much better if it's just Nigel Farage vs Count Binface.

I think if its just Farage vs Binface they should say just come back and do your job (and face the music re 'gifts') or bugger off and let someone else do it.

I’ve become mildly obsessed with Lord Buckethead and Count Binface. Some fun facts emerge.

First, I need to be fairer to Count Binface. The legal action about Lord Buckethead was a copyright threat by the filmmaker who created the Lord Buckethead character for a US sci-fi parody movie. He wanted to reclaim the rights to the character after he’d been used for a candidate in UK elections. So one of the men who had stood as Lord Buckethead (Jonathan Harvey) became Count Binface instead.

Lord Buckethead nearly stood against Farage in 2019 in European elections. He backed out because he didn’t want to reduce the pro-EU vote.

Buckethead and Binface both stood against Boris Johnson in the 2019 GE. Buckethead got 125 votes, Binface 69.

If Binface were to win in Clacton, not only would the nation cry with laughter, but the exciting history of comic candidates would become highly topical. So my research continues.
