A chat thread for those who don't like this Labour government 💙

The problem with socialism is that you eventually run out of other people's money.

It was more than a storm in a teacup, the allegations were horrendous, and repeated on here at the time.

Yes, there’s a thread headed George and the Wedding Email with hundreds of comments gloating about it.
Yet when it’s a Labour mp accused of anything it’s ’let’s wait and see the proof, shall we?’

Yep.

It is possible AB will stick to wanting PR so if he wins with it in the manifesto the GE after that would be very different.

I doubt he's still keen on that, given how much Labour benefited from FPTP last time!

Spiteful and hypocritical. Two features of the left!

DenizenOfAisleOfShame · 03/07/2026 10:36

I think it’s right to say that the great majority on this thread do not go in for dodgy rumours about Labour figures - Phillipson, the Starmer arsonists etc etc, for which there isn’t a shred of evidence. I’ve rejected accusations like that, and I know others on here have. I would accept that there are others elsewhere on MN who are opposed to Labour and who are less sensible.

But I do think the centre-ish left of UK politics generally is worse than the right-wing equivalent in that way. The left seems to relish and believe allegations of dodginess, the more colourful the better, much more than the right. Just look at the lies told about Tory Covid ‘corruption’. If you question it you just get links to insinuation from left wing newspapers. No amount of pointing out the absence of evidence from proper investigations does any good.

ETA The rumours about Baroness Owen and Johnson are another good example of the left’s willingness to spread rumours with no evidence at all.

Yep, I remember.
I will never forget the footage from the wedding, where a protester threw orange confetti over George and Thea. Thea looked terrified, now we know why. My heart went out to her when I saw that.
Someone posted on MN the other day about George and cocaine.

Some interesting stats here on current VI by demographic.
Green voters most likely to be found in highest earning households. Most 'Progressives' went to university.

https://yougov.com/en-gb/articles/55084-how-would-britain-vote-two-years-since-the-2024-election

Really interesting having a look those stats - thank you!

Labour's vote share has collapsed, but it's not surprising. These are very unhappy times in unhappy times the govt is never popular. Plus, Labour won a 'loveless landslide', and I think a lot of people have buyer's remorse. They thought the Cons were bad and Labour couldn't be worse - but they are worse, much worse.

Sadly, I don't believe we'll get a GE though before 2029. They just won't risk it. And Burnham won't undo any of the harm that Starmer and Reeves have done. He'll never reinstate the two-child benefit cap or reverse VAT on school fees. The class war and spite will continue and the feckless will continue to bleed this country dry while Labour backbenchers block any attempts at welfare reform.

You’re probably right on that.
Those stats are interesting @Nuthatch26

I was just reading about Labour bringing back old boys club even more and was just reminded of Gordon Brown coming back. What happened with him? It was just a photo op surely.

It was more than a storm in a teacup, the allegations were horrendous, and repeated on here at the time. I've seen a poster on MN repeat the allegations of drug use as fact only a few days ago.

https://www.independent.co.uk/news/uk/crime/lydia-suffield-george-osborne-thea-rogers-b2981185.html

Blimey a complete fruit loop.

justasking111 · 03/07/2026 14:33

I don't venture into politics normally. It was only when labour isn't working threads went on and on trending in chat that eventually I peeked in. I read for a while, no-one was lynched, no-one was sworn at. There was respect all round. Then I became more involved for the first time.

I got my fingers burnt in another zone for one post MN banned me for a week. I was harassed for a bit on other threads. So much for feminist support.

@Nuthatch26 has steered a true course for 36 threads, gotta be a record.

Yep I often thank @Nuthatch26in my mind, so good to have this place to not have the usual.

Ereshkigalangcleg · 03/07/2026 16:43

I’ve only joined recently but I’ve been lurking for a long time. Former Labour member, they’ve been a lost cause for years.

Nuthatch26 · 03/07/2026 18:17

Thank you @justasking111 😊
Let's hope it stays that way.

I'm glad you've de-lurked @Ereshkigalangcleg, love your posts.

Happy weekend! I've never been so happy to finish work on a Friday. That was a shite week. Stress at work, poorly dd, spent a night in A&E midweek with other dd after an injury, poorly dog, and dh working away. I'm frazzled. 🥴 Very proud that I have remained alcohol free this week, I've been very tempted.

I'm off for a run to find my zen, then pizza in pyjamas with my DDs In the garden.

Much agree. Three cheers for @Nuthatch26 !

redange · 03/07/2026 20:07

ABSOLUTELY HILARIOUS !

The England V Mexico game has been moved forward from 1am Monday - 19.00 Sunday . Another disaster for Labour 5 AM drinking licences . It is a fitting end for Starmer !

MellowZebra · 03/07/2026 20:16

Not so hilarious for the pub managers who might have been busy making arrangements to open longer, though. Apparently it is due to risk of thunderstorms. FIFA yet to confirm the change as I understand it? It would be an advantage if it was 7pm so children could have the chance to view the fixture.

redange · 03/07/2026 20:19

Fair Point mellow: This has been the worst Government In History for the Entertainment Industry . I also think Sacha Lord who claims to be an advocate of Burnham is going to be disappointed.

redange · 03/07/2026 20:46

IF ENGLAND do beat Mexico it will be 2 am against Norway/ Brazil in Kansas City Next Sunday I think so it would be the same licence nonsense. The thought of drunken fans at 5 am after a possible defeat against 'Mexico' would have been horrendous . However, if England do win against 2250 metre altitude a side without a proper right back , Madueke who looks like he is running in quick sand Rashford who could not hit a barn door a knacked Saka and Declan Rice. A defence who looks vulnerable every-time the opponents cross the halfway line we will be in the same stupid situation of 5/6 am pub licences . It could work if only a few places under strict rules and ticketed events were allowed late extension licences but allowing a local 'boozer' to open is madness.

It is also a piss take to all pubs that have been decimated by this shower of shite, where unless the pub is one where it is only the landlord serving. The idea of employing staff to 5 or 6 in the morning is for the birds as well as trying to get drunken 'arses' of the premises good luck with that. It is an example of Labour Party thinking 'let the peasants' drink one night until 5 or 6 and they won't notice anything else about the country. Rant Over

DenizenOfAisleOfShame · 03/07/2026 21:14

I’d like to see the back of the World Cup. I do watch some of it, generally bits of bigger games, but I find it a huge circus really, like the Olympics, summer or winter, but marginally less corrupt and not so absurd. But I can’t get into wall to wall football. It palls quickly for me.

Even so, I hope it brings a boost to pubs, supermarkets, airlines etc.

SapphireCasino · 03/07/2026 21:38

@Nuthatch26 sorry your week has been so tough. I also really thank you for these threads. 💐

Re the football OMG, even one of my quiet locals has decided to stay open

They have had to spend time and money and energy to sort that

Oh well, if it's weather-related, then it is what it is! I wonder when they make a decision because having to guesstimate storm activities is quite a saga.

DenizenOfAisleOfShame · 03/07/2026 22:15

BBC News is leading with an interview with Starmer. I hate to kick a man when he’s down, but Starmer is so self-serving it’s painful. How he can combine such bullshit about serving the country with so much bollocks about his “personal” decision is remarkable.

I would have so much more respect for him, at this moment at least, if he said he was sad but he recognised that he clearly commanded no respect in the country. So he’s re-running his silly resignation speech I suppose.

SapphireCasino · 03/07/2026 22:34

Hugely amused by Kemi apparently joining Reddit so she could participate in Andy Burnham's AMA

I don't know, maybe it's not fair to assume that she wasn't on Reddit in the first place

I am definitely amused 😂😂

SapphireCasino · 03/07/2026 23:34

Conscious I'm probably chatting to myself this late

I have been a fan of Taylor Swift for 20 years or whatever it is - since I first heard her. An OG fan, a Senior Swiftie etc etc

her music is the soundtrack of my life and I'm so grateful to her for giving me words for many situations where I had none

I knew she was going to be big, but even I could never ever imagine this big.

I get that for some people it's like a royal wedding, but I really hope she gets the privacy that everyone deserves this weekend

I'm never interested in anyone's personal life. I think even the BBC are running a live feed about her wedding. It's completely nuts.

I wish her every happiness

I just find it astonishing that for some people, this is the most exciting thing she's ever done - hopefully that's a minority of people

I was speaking to someone who was saying that she's got enough material that she could play the Legends slot at Glastonbury already!

there was a lovely MNer who discovered her late - and sadly died before she got a chance to see the Eras tour. I often think of her. We had lots of nice chats.

Parsley4321 · 04/07/2026 08:13

@SapphireCasino was not a swiftie until I got FOMO and was given eras tickets oh my god ! What a performance I was completely converted. Good luck to them both

LupaMoonhowl · 04/07/2026 08:46

Wrong thread? Does all that mean Taylor Swift is getting married? Didn’t know that, but not sure what that has to do with the Labour Gvt??
