We are in Mexico ,staying in playa del Carmen.
We got here on Monday.
Im just bored now, every day is the same, get up breakfast ,sunbathe, lunch ,pool etc etc
We have had really bad jet lag, waking up at 4am.
Today we managed to sleep in till 6am.
We left resort on Thursday but the heat and humidity was so intense we felt faint.
We are here till next Friday
We have trips next week booked for Isla murajes,Cozumel and chitchen itza.
The heat is just so intense here
Last night it was 28 degrees with no air at 11pm
I miss my pets and my routine
Dont want to sound ungrateful and I do love holidays
Does anyone get like this ?

I don't book those kinds of holidays exactly because I find them so boring.

A sun lounger all day and bar entertainment by night is my idea of hell.

Maybe you need to do more research before you book a holiday? Resort stays are very much as you've described and they are not for everyone.

they aren’t chained to their sun loungers and bar entertainment. There is plenty to do and see around them if they are bored

Hire a car with aircon and explore, or read a book (kindle if there are no bookshops selling english books nearby) - you a have a very first world problem!

Arran2024 · 28/06/2026 19:04

I realised a few years ago that foreign holidays didn't appeal any more. I don't like the heat and I find the travelling aspect unpleasant. I don't mind the daily activities but the rest of it...sitting on hotel beds, eating too much. I don't drink.

I realised I much prefer woods and walking my dogs. We always did UK cottage holidays too but now that's it. We do three of four pa. I like Wales best.

Reassess what you want and don't feel pressured into doing what everyone else is doing.

From what OP says, she isn't enjoying the hot weather so isn't going out and doing anything either.

Hence my comment re needing to do more research in future.

Tontostitis · 28/06/2026 19:14

Yep I eventually admitted to my self that actually I'm not wild about holidays. A few days experiencing somewhere new is fun but I like my home, dogs and garden. I don't need to 'get away' I love my life, it's not stressful or overly tiring and having travelled loads in my twenties now I'd rather just do the odd weekend away.

I normally love beach holidays but I think the heat and time difference has been a bit of a killer this time.
I have never travelled further than a 2houe time difference

Well why did you book a holiday where there's nothing to do except sit by the pool and wish it wasn't so hot?

Yes I'd be bored too if I was there.

You need to plan your holidays better!

We are going to go to fifth Avenue this morning for a wander ,I think it might break the day up a bit
then partner wants to be back to watch the England game later today
That’s on at 4pm so should be fun

Don't go to chichen iza then it is hugely more hot than on the coast.

Pistachiocake · 28/06/2026 19:21

If you miss your pets, take them-people seem to take them to Europe a lot. I get that if you really wanted to go to Mexico it might be hard, but if you're not happy anyway?
Just download some books. I know you might say you could have done that here, and it's just as hot, but you're there now.

wellington77 · 28/06/2026 19:22

I think you need a different kind of holiday with sites of interest or activities. I would be bored too say at a pool all day

Because the Op normally loves beach holidays?
What looks good on paper sometimes may not meet reality.
28 degrees could n be bearable with a coastal British breeze or tropical on a humid night in Florida. How would op know what Mexican heat feel like or jet lag ?.

TubeScreamer · 28/06/2026 19:30

This is why I don’t do holidays. I much prefer everyday life.

hereforthelolz · 28/06/2026 19:38

If you’re in a resort, surely there are loads of activities going on?

Peony1985 · 28/06/2026 19:38

Not liking holidays is weirder than not liking a difficult holiday.!

Gwenhwyfar · 28/06/2026 19:51

We have a heatwave in Europe now. Over 30 in my bedroom all night so I guess we're in the same boat.
But hotels usually have aircon, so is it really 28 degrees in your room?

FortyFacedFuckers · 28/06/2026 19:52

I am coming to Mexico this week and I can not wait, I could be there a month and still not be bored but these types of holidays are definitely not for everyone

katepilar · 28/06/2026 19:52

I would hate such holiday. And flying so far away... No, thanks.

Coldwetlettuce · 28/06/2026 19:54

I mean if you go to a country and stay in the resort the whole time without experiencing any of the culture of a place, yeah you’re gonna get bored. It basically just like being in the UK with hot weather

socks1107 · 28/06/2026 19:55

Yes this would bore me. We like exploring, by public transport or hiring a car

2 weeks honeymoon in the Dominican Republic and I was fat so couldn't do (didn't want to) snorkeling etc. Bored rigid, nearly booked an early flight back! No idea why we did it, probably peer pressure and it was 'expected'. I can't do more than 2 nights anywhere now, so have done epic road trips.

No idea about the area you're in, but I thought staying at the resort was recommended as its not particularly safe outside? We had that in the Dom Rep. There's only so much booze you can drink /swim up bars/endless food.

Spottingtwerps · 28/06/2026 19:59

This just demonstrates a lack of imagination. There's a whole world out there, why oh why are you sitting by a pool and moaning that you are bored!?!?!?

Goldenbear · 28/06/2026 20:00

No but I tend to go to Northern Europe on holiday as i don't have stamina for that kind of heat.

vanessashanessa99 · 28/06/2026 20:01

I was long haul cabin crew for years. Had lay overs in Cancun, all over America ect. I missed home all the time. Worst one was Christmas 2018. I was in New York and was due to fly home on the 20th Dec....then the Gatwick drone situation hit and I didn't get home until 7pm Christmas Eve. Felt like a movie
And i was flying out to San Fransico on the 28th.
No matter where I was I just wanted to be home. I missed my sons, husband, dogs and my bed. But i did love my job. Loved meeting new people and my favourite flights were to Orlando. Seeing all the Mickey Mouse ears and all the children so excited. I just hated the lay overs.

TeamGeriatric · 28/06/2026 20:02

Jet lag gets better and you will get more used to the heat, I would persist with going out, just take hats and plenty of water. Why don't you take a taxi to a cenote or down to Tulum, it would just break up your week? Our holidays are normally more sightseeing based, but we did a week in the Carribbean at Easter and I enjoyed it far more than I expected. I think I could have managed 10 days but a fortnight would have been too long for me. We basically did what you described, we were up early, breakfast as soon as the restaurant opened and hung out at the beach from 9 until at least 5 for 6 straight days. The kids loved it and I interspersed a dip in the sea with reading 2 books, it filled my time nicely. We did break it up with a potter down the beach to find somewhere to get lunch every day and it rained briefly around lunchtime every single day, so that made everyone move off the beach temporarily as well.

Comeinsideforacupoftea · 28/06/2026 20:03

I love to just relax by the pool with a good book. However it does get a bit samey. If I'm somewhere hot like this I tend to alternate relax day-trip out. Chichen Itza is touristy but fantastic and fascinating and worth the trip to Mexico in itself IMO. Why don't you see if there's any other trips to smaller Mayan ruins or boat trips or venture into Playa itself if safe
