We are in Mexico ,staying in playa del Carmen.
We got here on Monday.
Im just bored now, every day is the same, get up breakfast ,sunbathe, lunch ,pool etc etc
We have had really bad jet lag, waking up at 4am.
Today we managed to sleep in till 6am.
We left resort on Thursday but the heat and humidity was so intense we felt faint.
We are here till next Friday
We have trips next week booked for Isla murajes,Cozumel and chitchen itza.
The heat is just so intense here
Last night it was 28 degrees with no air at 11pm
I miss my pets and my routine
Dont want to sound ungrateful and I do love holidays
Does anyone get like this ?

I can’t stand that type of holiday - and nor can my husband. We have amazing holidays visiting interesting places and having great experiences, but there’s very little “lazing around pool” kind of behaviour- we tried, but that’s just not fun for us.

Wishingitwaswinter · 29/06/2026 09:38

No, never. Maybe these type of holidays arnt for you. They definitely aren't for me. I like city breaks and places that have alot to keep me entertained. I research places well before I go.

LieInsAreExtinct · 29/06/2026 09:52

No I have never been bored on holiday, other than maybe having to wait around e.g. for children or a travel delay because I have never chosen a boring holiday! Cycling, road trip, sports, activities, entertainment, sightseeing, shopping, visiting friends...I think when I was working full time I could have spent a maximum of a week on a really lazy holiday without getting bored, (but never actually did!) but now I'm retired it wouldn't appeal at all.

Does your hotel have activities such as boules tournaments , yoga, kayaks etc?

Onmytod24 · 29/06/2026 14:24

Why waste your money going to one of the most beautiful countries in the world, but you might as well have been in a 4 star hotel in Europe?

ExplodingSmittens · 29/06/2026 14:28

Look up the MNer inkyspells. She’s in holiday in Mexico right now and I’m sure that being around her and her new DH would liven up your holiday…Grin

I would be bored on that type of holiday too (no problem with others who love just sunbaking at an AI resort). We only ever travel independently, and always go to villas and have a hire car so we can get out and explore, hike, snorkel at off the beaten track beaches - it’s a more expensive way to holiday but we just really enjoy it. I couldn’t see us lasting more than half a day round a shared pool or on a busy hotel beach with sun beds.

The heat sounds similar to the Uk last week which is a bit much whilst trying to work and do normal life things, but on holiday sounds fab. Could you try to get out and explore / go for walks etc in the early mornings and late afternoons so you only have a bit of the day that’s ‘downtime’ and sit in the shade with a book?

Topsyturveymam · 29/06/2026 15:48

I sprinkle my holidays with trips, so I don’t get too bored with the beach:pool. Although I do love a lazy day too.
Some of the trips you mentioned won’t shield you from the sun if that is an issue. When I went to Playa del Carmen I snorkelled in the cenotes which was great. I also went to the xcaret park …which has water activities and snorkelling.

PurpleCoo · 29/06/2026 16:17

28c is cooler than it's been here at home. You don't have to stay by the pool all day.

From where you are... Get the colectivo to Tulum.

Go to Akumal and swim with turtles right from the beach. Look around the arts and crafts galleries while you are there. I think you can get the colectivo here too, if not get a taxi.

Go to Yal Ku lagoon and snorkel. You can walk there from Akumal.

Same place there are guys hanging around with boats. Easy to get someone to take you out on a boat

I would never be bored with turtles to swim with, and lots of amazing tropical fish to swim with and there is loads to do in the area.

Visit xcaret and/or Xel Ha.

Go swimming in a cenote

It feels like 41 degrees ,it’s a different kind of heat ,it’s just humid and you need to be beside some sort of sea for a tiny bit of breeze -deffo not the same as uk heat

And are you by the sea?

DoubleEspressoForMe · 29/06/2026 20:42

Last holiday I went on, I went raodtripping round Scotland. Didn't spend a single moment bored. I can't remember the last time I was bored to be fair, but I make sure all my holidays are action packed. To be fair your holiday would bore me to tears.

Dogmum74 · 30/06/2026 08:37

Did you not research the temperatures and humidity in Mexico before you booked? A little tip as well - if you are struggling in resort, you will NOT enjoy Chichen Itza. There is ZERO shade. None. So be aware

Bull Sharks 😱Are they the biggest unprovoked attacker of humans, along with Great Whites?

I am surprised you are allowed to scuba dive where there are bull sharks. Were you in a cage?

No cage! It was incredible. We dived with Xico dive centre and what was more surprising was that we went on a speed boat to the dive site…only 5 mins from shore! The dive centre have a 15 yr record of no incidents so fully trusted them. It wasn’t like a normal dive, we didn’t swim amongst them freely, we had to descend on a rope and hold on to the tethered rope whilst down there and ascend up the rope. They were pregnant females who go there to give birth. Xico dive centre study them and name most of them. It was the most amazing thing I’ve ever done…apart from snorkelling with a whale shark in Mexico the year before!!

Go down to Tulum to the ruins, go early before it gets too hot.
There are also some amazing cenotes in that area (but wear good bug spray).
We also loved swimming with turtles in Akumal which isn’t very far either.
