We are in Mexico ,staying in playa del Carmen.
We got here on Monday.
Im just bored now, every day is the same, get up breakfast ,sunbathe, lunch ,pool etc etc
We have had really bad jet lag, waking up at 4am.
Today we managed to sleep in till 6am.
We left resort on Thursday but the heat and humidity was so intense we felt faint.
We are here till next Friday
We have trips next week booked for Isla murajes,Cozumel and chitchen itza.
The heat is just so intense here
Last night it was 28 degrees with no air at 11pm
I miss my pets and my routine
Dont want to sound ungrateful and I do love holidays
Does anyone get like this ?

Yucatan is amazing. You are missing out. Go swim with whale sharks. Dive in cenotes. Visit Tulum - still the only known Maya site by the sea, I think. Get the Merlin app to identify the really cool birds.

Get up early (7/8) and do all your activities before noon. Have a siesta or travel on aircon transport (buses, maybe the new train).

Palenque and Cristobal de las Casas are probably too far for you, but they're fabulous.

SavBlancinRecovery · 28/06/2026 17:40

Why don’t you learn to scuba dive while you’re there? Or some Mexican cooking courses. Talk to the hotel staff and I’m sure they can find you some cool stuff to do.
as far as the weather - you can’t change your body’s response to heat but you can adapt your behaviour - if you’re up early anyway just go for breakie early / take a walk early in the morning. Nap through the heat of the midday and have cool dinners by the sea or in air con.
plenty of shows in cancun and sailing days you could join.

SMDX3 · 28/06/2026 17:43

It doesn’t sound like you enjoy holidays.
Why would you book somewhere that is too hot and not fulfilling for your holiday needs

turquoiseshell · 28/06/2026 17:44

I don't get travelling to the other side of the world just to lie around somewhere hot. You can do that here, and it's boring and, well, HOT, sweaty and sun-creamy. I'd rather go somewhere cooler, where there are lots of interesting things to see and do. Maybe try a different kind of holiday next time?

Bless you, that sounds awful

Ive never been bored on holiday but then I dont do the sort of holiday you describe

Ive never been on a hotel holiday or all inclusive or beach resort type holiday

We stay in cities or towns and every day is jam packed with cafes, sightseeing, more cafes, drinking, eating, more drinking and eating, bus and train journyes to the next town or city, bike hire, walks, shopping, escapting into a cool church. Castles and history and art, museums. We dont book in season so the hottest temperature we ever had was 44 in Spain and that was quite difficult but again, just took ourselves off to bars and restaurants and shops.

Namechangedforthis25 · 28/06/2026 17:46

I went there and thought the same

but then did a padi scuba diving course in that week so returned home with an open water diving qualification

Staffygirl · 28/06/2026 17:48

We're all different, so yes, your holiday would be my worst nightmare because it's repetitive..
I don't like hotels anyway, so we're normally villa (with pool) or self catering places. Hire a car, explore the area, visit local attractions, try different restaurants, but also have a few days lazing around the pool at the villa too.
Because I'm not good with extreme heat, we normally holiday at a time of year that is a bit cheaper too and more affordable...

IStillHearTheWaves · 28/06/2026 17:48

I'd be bored, definitely. That's why I don't do holiday like that. I always incorporate some sight seeing, water sports, and day trips.

Permanentlytired2621 · 28/06/2026 17:50

Oh boo hoo 🙄 a lot of people would love your ‘problem’
Just make the most of it. Won’t last forever and you’re back to everyday life. There’s plenty to do in Mexico. Nothing you can do about the heat but you just get on with it

Namechangeforthisdilemma1 · 28/06/2026 17:50

No, I can’t relate. I have no money and would love to be on a holiday like that.

Maybe seek counselling because it doesn’t sound usual to feel like that. If the resort thing isn’t your idea of fun, there is a whole myriad of day trips you could do!! I know you say it’s too hot but you surely knew that when booking?!

TomHanksIsMyHero · 28/06/2026 17:52

I’m like this…to me, holidays involve being busy so I only ever really book city breaks.

It used to drive me mad when exH used to sit watching TV on holiday, we can do that at home!

Snackpocket · 28/06/2026 17:53

I rarely go on those types of holiday but when I do I’m totally content laid on a sun bed with a kindle full of books and a cocktail so I can’t relate. 😆

No not been bored on holiday.

namechange6766333545544 · 28/06/2026 17:55

I sometimes do have those feelings on holiday, but I realise it’s actually anxiety and an anxious response to being away from my routine and missing my dogs that makes me like that.
Do you suffer from anxiety?
We went on a cruise once and we were so busy that I actually did better for the distraction! (It was tacky but fun.) You should try a cruise or something action-packed next time and see if you respond better to it.

Besafeeatcake · 28/06/2026 17:57

luluxxx · 27/06/2026 14:03

I normally love beach holidays but I think the heat and time difference has been a bit of a killer this time.
I have never travelled further than a 2houe time difference

OP there is a reason why onky Brits seem to want to go to Mexico in June/July - most NA’s know it’s far too hot that time of year.

AurielleBaies · 28/06/2026 17:58

Why does everyone need to be so active and entertained on holiday on this thread?!

OP, your post reads glass half empty. You are in a beautiful country, with incredible people, culture and food. You don’t have to sit by the pool all day if you don’t want to. You are not chained to your hotel pool

Dumbledora8 · 28/06/2026 17:59

Banannanana · 28/06/2026 17:22

What on earth were you expecting? Did you do no research to see if you’d like the place prior to booking? If you find sitting by the pool boring go and do something else, it’s not hard.

Is there a need to be so arsey?

Lifeomars · 28/06/2026 18:06

I've always researched the area I am going to and work out where i would like to visit. Then I split up the time between lounging by the pool or on the beach (which I love) with getting out and about to explore my surroundings

HoraceCope · 28/06/2026 18:07

i dont like a hot holiday

EllaPaella · 28/06/2026 18:10

I used to hate these kind of holidays but since going back to work full time I now love them. Give me a sun-bed by the pool, all inclusive cocktails, endless books to read, delicious food and sea to swim in and I’ll be lazy and as happy as possible and love every minute. A few day trips/snorkelling boat trips as well is perfect for me. We’re all different though. I also love a sightseeing holiday so have both.

pouletvous · 28/06/2026 18:10

It often takes a few days to wind down and relax. You will feel better tomorrow

AurielleBaies · 28/06/2026 18:10

If it’s too hot, go down to the beach and take a walk along the water line.Or, go out for some Mexican food and margaritas - all the restaurants have air conditioning. I’m sure the hotel could help you find things to do too.

You are there now, you travelled a long way and you likely paid a small fortune. You just have to try and enjoy it and be a bit proactive in planning.

youalright · 28/06/2026 18:14

You need to figure out what type of holiday suits you. I love a beach laying around the pool holiday but its not for everyone

lindyloo57 · 28/06/2026 18:16

I would be board after one day, never been a fan of laying on a beach all day , we like walking, so site seeing, or hire a car visiting different areas shopping, then when back to hotel late in afternoon a lay by the pool and a swim, we haven't been to many countries spain a few times manly menorca or majorca, malta a few times, but my favourite place is madeira spectacular views and walks when you get away from the town and up in the mountains. If I had the money I'd buy a hoilday home there,

ClaireEclair · 28/06/2026 18:16

I prefer city breaks during October/November. I’m okay for about 4 days on beach holidays, as long as I can swim in the sea. But I’m like you, I prefer to be at home with my cat.
