We are in Mexico ,staying in playa del Carmen.
We got here on Monday.
Im just bored now, every day is the same, get up breakfast ,sunbathe, lunch ,pool etc etc
We have had really bad jet lag, waking up at 4am.
Today we managed to sleep in till 6am.
We left resort on Thursday but the heat and humidity was so intense we felt faint.
We are here till next Friday
We have trips next week booked for Isla murajes,Cozumel and chitchen itza.
The heat is just so intense here
Last night it was 28 degrees with no air at 11pm
I miss my pets and my routine
Dont want to sound ungrateful and I do love holidays
Does anyone get like this ?

Yes, I can only sort around a pool or a beach for a couple of afternoons on holiday. Just enjoy the rest of the holiday and book a different type next time. Something active or interesting or lively or even just less hot may suit you better.

Stelladid · 28/06/2026 18:18

I would be very bored lying around on a sun lounger. That aside, since you say you usually enjoy a beach holiday, I definately understand your problem with the heat. We felt like that in Barbados. It was about 34c in the daytime and barely cooled down at night. We still had 30c. It was awful.

Why does everyone need to be so active and entertained on holiday on this thread?!

OP, your post reads glass half empty. You are in a beautiful country, with incredible people, culture and food. You don’t have to sit by the pool all day if you don’t want to. You are not chained to your hotel pool

Because she obviously isn't a beach holiday person if she's bored, people are pointing out that there is an alternative.

I can do a couple of days on the beach but I've had enough of doing nothing after that. I love exploring and seeing new things.

Yes I find it boring when it’s too hot to do much on holiday. It’s good to relax but I like to visit places and to see the country I’m staying in a bit. I tend to go either end of the season now to get the milder weather

Sammyg76 · 28/06/2026 18:22

We did Mexico last year and felt exactly the same. The heat and humidity was awful. Went for a couple of trips out but it was too hot. We're a regular at all inclusive too. Wouldn't go there again.

ReadySaltedSquares · 28/06/2026 18:23

Bloody love a holiday where I can read a million books, drink a million cocktails, and snooze in the day!

We did Mexico for our honeymoon and did a lot of reading/chilling. But there’s also a lot of water sports and historic places to visit. Fan and lots of water help!

But this doesn’t help her situation right now does it? Saying stuff like ‘oh I could never do a beach holiday’ isn’t helpful at all. She’s there now and just has to make the most of it.

I do understand the missing pets bit though, my heart aches when I’m away from mine.

I love my holidays. I like active/sightseeing holidays (anything from Italy, Madeira to Iceland. If it’s a beach holiday ir can’t be AI or resort/compex based. So, my favourite beach holiday is Barbados where the beaches are fab but there’s loads to do and see too.
I can’t say Mexico appeals to me!

Mexico definitely has more to see and do than Madeira or Barbados! It’s incredibly rich in cultural and historical sites and also has a diverse climate from jungle to desert with plenty of activities.

Absolutely. Mexico is such an incredible place. Yes it’s hot right now, but as suggested above, get a fan and drink a lot of water. Most places have AC too.

UneasyMe · 28/06/2026 18:28

OMG OP, you’re in a beautiful part of the world. Get out and do stuff! Snorkel in cenotes. Snorkel in the sea. Bird watch. Mayan temples. Hire a car and get out there!

BarbieKew · 28/06/2026 18:29

You’re trapped in a hotel compound, that’s why.

We did it once and never again, also in Mexico, and although the hotel, beach, pool and food were all amazing, it did feel rinse and repeat with nowhere to go for a mooch. In our second week we did a few day trips and it was much better! I feel like you’ll get through this difficult time!

Bridesmaidorexfriend · 28/06/2026 18:29

No, I’m jealous. Haven’t had a holiday like this in years as we’ve been prioritising active holidays, but I got married not far from there and really loved it, went back the following year. Would swap places in a second as the heat here has been awful and I didn’t have a pool or aircon to make it bearable lol

I went to Mexico with absolutely no expectation. It is honestly one of my favourite places on the planet. The people are so so kind too. It’s such a beautiful place.

Minasama · 28/06/2026 18:29

I only like holidays like this because I am
an avid reader, otherwise I’d be bored too. You have to space the trips - a couple of days of pool, a trip out, a couple of days of pool etc. Also much better to be somewhere near a town and go out for dinner, drinks & walking round the town every night.

Our best family holidays are lakes & mountains - a hotel with a pool but hiking/visits to local places most days. Now the kids are older these work loads better than hotel pool-based holidays.

Judging · 28/06/2026 18:32

Is there a gym at the hotel, a spa?

I really love a ‘drop and flop’ holiday, but we go to the gym daily, I try to have spa treatment most days and we do some diving. We’ll also play padel or tennis in the mornings before it gets too hot. I love reading too, so as long as I’m in the shade, I can while away an entire afternoon on a sunbed.

mondaytosunday · 28/06/2026 18:34

i go to Spain and it’s very hot and I don’t like the heat but then I never sit out in the sun. Our routine is usually lazy breakfast, go to the town for a walk around bit of shopping (you have to get the bread fresh), son goes to gym, maybe lunch out, back to villa chill by pool then long dinner and board games after (no tv). We’ll go to a couple markets. A couple days go to the beach and have lunch nearby. Depending how long we will be there maybe an overnight trip somewhere like Granada. I’ve never been to a resort type place where there’s just a big pool and expect to stay there all the time. I’d want to be exploring and visiting places. You’ve been there several days - you should be over your jet lag by now!

CoastalCalm · 28/06/2026 18:36

Really dislike compound holidays , consider hiring a car maybe and get out and see some real Mexico

Ireallywantadoughnut36 · 28/06/2026 18:37

Don't beat yourself up, maybe you just don't like long haul trips? They are tougher than short haul, they feel more foreign, the weather is different, the time zones are different. However, you're there now!

I personally love all of that and embrace it, in Mexico we normally get up super early due to jet lag, and get in the pool before breakfast - it's peaceful and cool. We pick excursions that need early mornings, but then we go to bed fairly early and don't drink too much. I am never ever bored in Mexico, there's absolutely millions of things to do (ruins, jungle, nature, water sports, snorkeling, xel ha, xplor, xcaret, cenotes, boat trips) and we are out exploring every single day after an early pool morning. It's easy to book trips, or get taxis out and about to places.

I think you've picked some fairly tiring excursions there, chichen itza is a really long hot day (its amazing but if you're struggling with the heat, its a lot and i wouldnt recommend unless youre up for a long hot day). Maybe look at some easier going more local trips? We loved Xel Ha, it's basically an outdoor natural theme park with loads of snorkeling and water stuff so you stay wet and cool, it's easy and well organised and tourist friendly if you're feeling out of it. Or look at a local cenote trip, they're really fun and again, cool as they're underground. We also did snorkeling at Akumal, amazing to see wild turtles and you're in the sea so not hot, Tulum has beautiful ruins over the sea that are quick taxis to and then near a lovely beach to cool off and tulum town is nearby and has some bougie cafes. These are all very close to playa del Carmen so you'd be done in a half day. You can also get a taxi into town, explore the restaurants and bars, playa del Carmen isn't super exciting but if you're bored of the resort it's worth a try.
You need to make the best of it, but maybe long haul just isn't for you. Some long haul isn't a time difference, like cape town is the same times as the UK. Europe is also wonderful, sometimes it's the best place to be!

JacknDiane · 28/06/2026 18:39

I haven't been abroad for about 8 years and even I wouldn't thank you for your holiday @luluxxx.
Spend thd time planning next year's holiday

JustGotToKeepOnKeepingOn · 28/06/2026 18:44

I’ve been on all kinds of holidays. City breaks, sightseeing, sat by a pool. I’ve never been bored on any of them! Sounds like you’ve booked the wrong kind of holiday for what you needed the holiday for.

The last holiday I went on was a solo trip to an all-inclusive spa. I sat by the pool for an entire week and could have stayed longer. But I have a full on job and a disabled child, so I was exhausted. I just needed to feel some sun on my bones and sleep. Which I did. It was bliss. I wasn’t bored.

Go and find things to do. And do them!

Howyoudoings · 28/06/2026 18:44

I tend to get like this on all inclusive holidays, can only do them for 3 -4 days . Maybe try a city, beach break . We tend to book appointments now and prefer it being in hotels

TheBoyMayorOfPartridge · 28/06/2026 18:45

I like busy, sightseeing holidays and I love lying on the beach/ by a pool with my book. I wouldn’t be bored in either scenario - I’m easily pleased I suppose!

DH would be climbing the walls though - he’ll put up with a couple of days lounging about for my sake but that’s his limit. Mostly he likes somewhere not too hot and where we can hire a car and also go for lots of walks. This year he’s got the short straw because we’re doing an AI with DD, but only for a week and I imagine he’ll be going for lots of walks and we’ve also planned day trips for half the days.

waterrat · 28/06/2026 18:47

yes that holiday sounds boring to me. I also don't like being very hot places. Didn't enjoy Greece last summer it was far too hot.

I actually think we are crazy as europeans seeking out hot weather to sit around in.

Loopylambs · 28/06/2026 18:48

You poor things , sounds like hell 😂Meanwhile back in the Uk people have been working in similar heat , nurses, tree surgeons , builders, etc. Did you do any research before you booked ? Look on a map ? Look at average temperatures? Flight duration? Praying for you and thinking of you lying by the pool with a cocktail , so bored .

JustSawJohnny · 28/06/2026 18:51

I don't book those kinds of holidays exactly because I find them so boring.

A sun lounger all day and bar entertainment by night is my idea of hell.

Maybe you need to do more research before you book a holiday? Resort stays are very much as you've described and they are not for everyone.
