We are in Mexico ,staying in playa del Carmen.
We got here on Monday.
Im just bored now, every day is the same, get up breakfast ,sunbathe, lunch ,pool etc etc
We have had really bad jet lag, waking up at 4am.
Today we managed to sleep in till 6am.
We left resort on Thursday but the heat and humidity was so intense we felt faint.
We are here till next Friday
We have trips next week booked for Isla murajes,Cozumel and chitchen itza.
The heat is just so intense here
Last night it was 28 degrees with no air at 11pm
I miss my pets and my routine
Dont want to sound ungrateful and I do love holidays
Does anyone get like this ?

But you have trips booked to some wonderful places. So you have a balance of pool and going out sightseeing. How can you be bored? Don’t you have a book to read or games/ puzzles on your phone? How about going back to the room with your partner after lunch? You do sound rather spoilt. Didn’t you check the climate before you booked?

CocSoc · 27/06/2026 14:58

You’ve chosen a boring holiday. I would be bored too on a beach holiday… unless there’s watersports involved.

PinkSkiesLemonade · 27/06/2026 14:59

I love to read so on a holiday like that I take a book a day. I read (a full novel in one day feels like such a luxury) and swim and eat and drink, which is absolute bliss for me. I might miss my dog, sure, but definitely not the routine of daily life - I love to get a break from work and school runs and thinking about what to cook.

Kittkats · 27/06/2026 15:00

I’ve been there. We did the Mayan pyramids, walked in the rainforest to see spider monkeys, swam with dolphins, wandered round a village, snorkelled, went on a boat trip, visited xcaret, Tulum, had a couple of beach days, ate out, the odd chilled day by the pool / beach with a book, caught a small local festival. It’s definitely not somewhere you struggle to find things to do!

Berlin2018 · 27/06/2026 15:00

I hate the heat and would find that type of holiday boring too. We have something planned every day of our two week holiday in Central Europe and are visiting 4 countries. We will have a couple of half days each week so we can stay at the Airbnb and make the most of the small pool and Mountain Views.

GobletofFury · 27/06/2026 15:07

It's been way hotter than that in the UK this week. Back in May you were moaning because your partner was staying in bed and you wanted to make the most of the sunshine/go to the beach.

Now you have sunshine and a beach. No pleasing some people!

midlifeattheoasis · 27/06/2026 15:11

No

ifonly4 · 27/06/2026 15:13

It's not my kind of holiday. We'd chose something where we could easily do trips out, there's a nice town/village nearby to potter around, on our own or as a family - ideally with some nice places to grab a coffee/watch the world go by. Also, we want to be out walking.

If there's anyone close by, get yourself/yourselves out every day - if only for a couple of hours immediately after breakfast. Look at any activities onsite/in hotel. Do you like reading? If so, buy a book.

Valpolichella · 27/06/2026 15:24

Nope. I’ve been on all different sorts of holidays and never been bored. I can lie around and read books all day or I can hike, climb mountains, go to museums. It’s never boring.

yonem · 27/06/2026 15:27

I don’t do this type of holiday because I’d be bored after a couple of days too. We spent a couple of days in Playa del Carmen but also travelled around the Yucatan a bit and then went to Guatemala and Belize. It’s a beautiful part of the world, can you book any more trips? Merida and Izamal are lovely and are just about in day trip distance, or of course loads of cenotes. Or what about a cooking class?

As a tip for next time, I usually try to spend the week or so beforehand slightly adjusting my sleep schedule (obviously depends on your constraints like work/early rising children etc) which helps prevent such severe jet lag.

Don’t go to Mexico in June?

just an idea

I normally love beach holidays but I think the heat and time difference has been a bit of a killer this time.
I have never travelled further than a 2houe time difference

You should be grateful you were not the UK this week.
Cancun area this time of year by the pool is great.
Been there 3 times before I had my kids and would go back in a heart beat if I had the money, it is nothing compared to the heat we had here this week roasting in offices and schools.
Get a grip.
Sack off Chichen Iza and go to Xelha instead- it’s a natural water attraction. Absolutely gorgeous. Make sure you take biodegradable sun lotion.

What a problem to have. I can only dream of having a beach holiday where im just sitting by the pool all day. Having a disabled grown adult daughter doesn't come with such luxuries. Id personally have a re think about where you choose to holiday in future. Id love to be where you are now and not sweating in 35 degree heat at home 🤣. Try and make the most of it

babyproblems · 28/06/2026 16:18

I get bored in holiday. I am bored in a hotel as I type this op!!
…I don’t like holidays. I’m not sure you do either 😂

ElleJayC · 28/06/2026 16:19

My husband gets bored out of his mind on that kind of holiday, teens love it. We learnt very quickly that a beach/pool holiday, especially in an all inclusive resort was the worst for our family. He’d drink away his boredom which is so unlike him and a recipe for disaster!!

So now we have family holidays that suit everyone and I take the lads away for a cheeky week a couple a times a year and he looks after the dog 🤣🤣

BauhausOfEliott · 28/06/2026 16:24

I’d be bored on holiday if I was just sitting by a pool in 35C all day, certainly. I like to relax but on holiday I want to see new things and places.

lovecotswoldsliving · 28/06/2026 16:24

Well, now I am of a certain age…. I actually like lying on a sun lounger by the sea, dipping in and out of the water. I do some activities - I read my book, I put on my dark sunglasses and people watch, I do some swimming and then wonder what I will be eating at dinner.
Before I get accused of being lazy, I normally work 6 days a week and am on the go non stop.
Doing nothing is bliss!

Harry12345 · 28/06/2026 16:24

I would be the same that’s why I don’t book they type of holidays and tend to book a shorter flight and a place where there is lots to do and see. Lying all day in the sun would be hell to me, I don’t go away in summer either as hate anything over 25

MyEasterBonnet · 28/06/2026 16:24

I love holidays where I’m doing something, exploring places and having trips out. I can’t sit around a pool for a week without getting bored though.

That’s my kind of holiday too

dizzydizzydizzy · 28/06/2026 16:26

Chichen Itza is absolutely AMAZING! See if you can
take a trip for a swim in a Xenote (cave pool). The water is sooo cool!

Terfarina · 28/06/2026 16:27

there's so much to do - trips to cenotes, xel ha, mayan ruins, snokelling - there is absolutely no reason to be bored.

dizzydizzydizzy · 28/06/2026 16:29

And to answer your question, no I never get bored on holiday but I never stay at resorts. I tend to stay at small hotels and read lots of books. I used to enjoy lots of sightseeing and learning about local food etc but I’m no longer well enough to do much of the former.

Natsku · 28/06/2026 16:32

I would get bored on that type of holiday, just being by the pool every day sounds incredibly boring to me, I like to do things every day on holiday, even if its just go for a walk and explore some shops that are different to those at home (love going to foreign supermarkets!)

Is your DH still ruining your honeymoon by getting pissed?
