We are in Mexico ,staying in playa del Carmen.
We got here on Monday.
Im just bored now, every day is the same, get up breakfast ,sunbathe, lunch ,pool etc etc
We have had really bad jet lag, waking up at 4am.
Today we managed to sleep in till 6am.
We left resort on Thursday but the heat and humidity was so intense we felt faint.
We are here till next Friday
We have trips next week booked for Isla murajes,Cozumel and chitchen itza.
The heat is just so intense here
Last night it was 28 degrees with no air at 11pm
I miss my pets and my routine
Dont want to sound ungrateful and I do love holidays
Does anyone get like this ?

Bonus don’t get bored on holiday but then again, I don’t go on holidays like you’re describing. I usually villa holidays or short city breaks. I’m no longer one for sitting round a communal pool and I like to have the flexibility of how to fill my day. Perhaps your holiday preferences are changing.

pilates · 28/06/2026 16:44

I could do that sort of holiday for a week but not two

Chilly80 · 28/06/2026 16:48

You seem to contradict yourself. You say your bored as everyday is the same but miss your routine of home.
Maybe its really something else bothering you.

PeloMom · 28/06/2026 16:48

I don’t think it’s the resort; it's the heat. I live a relatively short flight to Playa del Carmen and people who go there typically go Oct- Marchs/ April for a break from the cold. It’s way too hot in the summer months to enjoy.
i assume you’re with kids- if so, they’re known for good kids clubs and you can go get a break/ some adult time. But yes, the heat is tough and not much to do about it than sit in a pool or indoors.

Sassylovesbooks · 28/06/2026 16:49

I like to sit by the pool for a couple of hours (not particularly a beach person, even though I live near the beach in the UK! 😬🤣) and go for a swim. However, I can't sit by the pool all day, every day. I like to get out in the morning sightseeing and on day trips.

I would be getting bored, just sitting by a pool all day.

ScotsMama82 · 28/06/2026 16:50

I’ve been there and we loved it. You could get the ferry to Cozumel which is lovely, we also went to Akumel which was incredible and added on a cenote trip to that. Hel xa is worth a visit. All those things are water based so you keep cool.

Gonners · 28/06/2026 16:50

My ex- and I spent a couple of weeks in that part of Mexico, mainly driving around and seeing the sights. It must have been nearly 30 years ago! Chichen Itza is fantastic. I haven't been to Isla Mujeres but it's perilously close to Cancun, which I only remember as a ghastly series of high-rise hotels. Cozumel looks interesting, though.

HotBothered · 28/06/2026 16:51

Yes if I sat round a pool for days on end, I like a multi center as it keeps interest going and exploring places

itsalltoplayfor · 28/06/2026 16:51

Well, if you've never travelled long haul before it can take some getting used to and jet lag can be real for a day or two. If all you wanted was sunshine and a pool there are places much closer to the UK that can offer that. Like the UK! (atm) So, the main point of going all that way would be to experience a totally different culture whether that's its history, cuisine, way of life. Check 'get my guide'.

Chichen Itza is very interesting. Tulum is another archaelogical site in the Yucatan. Cenotes might offer a refreshing swim in different natural surroundings. Do a try dive? Read a good book set in Mexico? Check out local cookery and crafts? It's a touristy area so you may have to travel some distance but get up early and go.

Heartbroken38 · 28/06/2026 16:52

I can never get bored on a holiday like that. I love to swim so would happily spend most of the day in the pool. Then eating and drinking...read a good book.

Breadcat24 · 28/06/2026 16:52

If you are bored get up and do something!
There are loads of cooking classes, you can go on speedboats in the lagoon, have a trip to see whale sharks
There are loads of hotels where you can get day passes if you are not a guest if you fancy a change of scene or spa treatments
go to Xel-Ha water park.

Or read a sodding book.
No reason for you to be bored.
And we are having hotter humid weather in the UK at the moment so enjoy your pool and sea

fuzzwuss · 28/06/2026 16:53

Get a taxi to Xcaret for the day. As others have mentioned, see about booking a trip to Chitchen Itza.

Graee · 28/06/2026 16:53

Don’t choose a holiday resort which you can’t leave. I love a beach holiday but prefer places like the South of France / Spain where there are nice places to explore.

somanychristmaslights · 28/06/2026 16:54

I love a holiday like that but we only go for a week. I bring loads of books with me and spend most of my time reading as I never get chance to at home.

We like a villa. Somewhere remote without other people.

Massive, massive supermarket shop with all the cheese and bread and wine.

Then I like to do precisely nothing all day.

Get up. Pool. Long lunch, wine, nap.

Pool. Read. Wine. Nap.

Drink. Scrabble. Read. Sleep.

You could save loads of money and stay at home for two weeks and do exactly the same stuff. Other than the pool of course.

parachutegirl · 28/06/2026 16:55

I would if I just lay around all day. I don’t choose all inc holidays for that reason - tend to go on holidays that involve exploring in the mornings, having lunch out, then just a couple of hours by the pool in the afternoon.

Last year I was talked into an all inc hol similar to yours by friends so I just joined in with all the activities every day - beach volleyball, table tennis, pool aerobics etc. It felt like I got a bit of a routine going and made me feel less guilty about all the food and drink! I do think it takes a few days to get in the swing of it and adjust your pace/routine.

Citadelica · 28/06/2026 16:59

I've been bored on a 2 week greek island holiday before. Too hot to do much at all by day, and we were based in a villa which cut out the people watching aspect.

Since then we've stayed at hotels and never in the same place for 2 weeks. We've occasionally done 2 centre holidays or, more often, gone somewhere for a week only.

LadyGaGasPokerFace · 28/06/2026 16:59

With pets I would’ve gone on a shorter holiday. I’d miss my dog so much. We went to Portugal for 5 days and I couldn’t wait to get back to him.
Mexico is great though, do the excursions to get out and about otherwise it’s just routine around meals.

Walker1178 · 28/06/2026 16:59

DP and I have very different needs for our time off - he works a physical job and wants a holiday just like yours. I sit at a desk all day and want to be out seeing/doing things. We overcome the balance by taking a mix of beach and city breaks!

I can do a couple of days of nothing but then I start to get bored, it’s a horrible feeling when you know you should just be making the most of the time away. It sounds like you have some amazing adventures planned for next week, hopefully they’ll help you to appreciate the down time in between

ChickenStuffing · 28/06/2026 17:02

We always embrace the jet lag and go for a wander around the resort at 4-5am but then we tend to pick those places in Mexico that have a real jungle feel and a 24 hour cafe so wandering around in the dark (softly lit paths) looking for nocturnal wildlife with a coffee is fun. And yes we always meet lots of Europeans doing the same thing.

Then we just chill by the pool early when it’s a bit less hot and then hide under an umbrella for the rest of the day in the shade. Yes it means we are shattered and need to go to bed soon after dinner but then we aren’t late night party people anyway.

scoopsahoooy · 28/06/2026 17:03

I'd be bored on that kind of holiday, yeah. Maybe it's not the type of holiday for you?

TheIdlerReturns · 28/06/2026 17:03

I get you. I can't cope in extreme heat. For what it's worth Isla Mujeres is lovely, but be careful at ChichenItza. It was boiling hot when we were there and can be difficult to find shade. Take plenty of water, sunscreen, hats, mozzie repellent. Same thing at Coba, but we went at silly o clock in the morning (like 5am) and managed to climb the thing and get back before the fierce sun really set in. Early morning or sunset - avoid the midday sun.

Bulbsbulbsbulbs · 28/06/2026 17:04

No, I've never been bored on a beach holiday. I swim a lot, I read. I can lie on a sunlouger on a beach all day every day for 2 weeks.

SP2024 · 28/06/2026 17:06

I love these types of holidays. My work is mega busy and I find it hard to just chill at home but if I’m paying to do it that’s another matter! A bit of sightseeing and trips but other days full of reading (I average a book a day on holiday - pre kids), occasional dips in the pool, a drink by the bar (not always alcoholic). Maybe a massage in the spa. Heaven! Can’t wait til my kids are old enough for me to do this again 😂

PS5Gamer · 28/06/2026 17:06

I’d be bored out of my mind, only because that is not my type of holiday. Sunbathing, lying around the pool/beach is not my idea of a fun holiday.
