@SerendipityJane
Imagine if it had a triple lock like pensions!?
But I do get £10 at Christmas (which is the same amount as it was in 1970....)

But the £10 isn't taxable, so there is that to be grateful for.

Ah. Yes 🙄
I'm off to Rio with my ill gotten carers allowance!
I can't find a pt job to top up the CA so I'm trapped - like so many others - in carer poverty.
@derxaonly thinks farmers work hard. No one else counts, and certainly not carers/teachers/nurses/drs/retail workers.
I - rather foolishly - thought that covid might make people realise - in a functioning society - how dependant we are on each other.
Farmers voted en masse for brexshit. As did the fishermen.
We tried. We were called all sorts of names. I seem to recall being called a traitor and to leave if I didn't like it.
I'm encouraging my dc to leave the uk. If I was younger I certainly would.

😳 That’s quite the rant. I have great respect for carers. I used to be a teacher and before that a speech and language therapist and know how hard I worked in those professions. . I don’t think that farmers are the hardest working people. All farmers didn’t vote for Brexit. I certainly didn’t.

Thanks for the new thread. Off to look for some tax.

We also had the huge storm last night, started around 3.30am and went on for well over an hour. Fantastic lightning, loads of constant rumbling thunder and totally torrential rain.

Raven08 · 23/06/2026 14:57

@derxa
I didn't say "all" as you well know. (Post is there to reread)
I'm not engaging with you further. You delight in misquoting people and getting arsey when its pointed out.

Raven08 · 23/06/2026 14:58

Anyone else a bit 🤔 at all the Chancellor talk?
Surely WS can't think he's got a chance!?

SerendipityJane · 23/06/2026 14:59

Am I alone in thinking that one of the main (if not main) priority of the NHS should be to ensure that as many people as possible are able to work to their best potential as possible in order to aid the UKs productivity and allow the creation and distribution of as much wealth as possible ?

You know (dare I whisper it) like investing

Because from where I am dying, it looks like it's main focus is having to expend a fucktonne of resources just to stay still, as the people it fails develop more and more serious (and expensive) health conditions.

As always, happy to be proved wrong.

Regulars may recall I can be anal about definitions. Because I am well aware that a lot of arguments really stem from people thinking different things. Starting with what is the point of government and moving down (or up)

TemperanceWest · 23/06/2026 15:04

Because from where I am dying

@SerendipityJane is this a typo? I hope.

Last night on Newsnight, Nick Watt said that he heard that Miliband, Streeting and McFadden were all touted as prospective Chancellor and when that happens it's usually none of them. Mahmood has stated she wants to stay as Home Secretary.

As all of us are, I have been dying since I was born

And it's not that I'm afraid of death. But I'd rather not be there when it happens.

(But it was a turn of phrase 😀)

Whoever it is they'll have to stick with Reeves' fiscal rules, because Burnham supports them.

Although he is absolved of being recorded as having voted for them.

Placemark still evading tax

DuncinToffee · 23/06/2026 17:35

Farage didn't have a good day on his media rounds, even Julia Hartley-Brewer gave him a hard time over the £5m

BIossomtoes · 23/06/2026 17:38

What a shame, my heart bleeds for him. That £5 million just won’t go away.
