The Independent are running an article on what Andy Burnham believes after he was sworn in on the Bible. I can't read it without paying but would be interested. Any idea how I could read it please?

There is nothing I despise more than people who choose to report posts instead of asking the poster to explain their thinking. Weaponising the feature to stifle speech that doesn't align with one's own views is cowardly, imo.

This is a general comment, as I have no idea what was in the deleted post.

Love the colour of your door @dontcallmelen !
I was up and up out before 7 walking the dogs at the home. All out by 8 thanks to some early rising volunteers! I normally can’t make the early walks as I’m sleeping, so when I woke at 6.30 I seized the day. I was very pleased with last night me for setting some cold brew coffee going so I could have that after a shower when I got in.
Darren Jones said he’s supporting Burnham after a discussion with him about economic policy. I wonder what that means?

Thanks Duncin, that article has enlarged my watchlist.

Badenoch's name was spelled with a space.

The ones doing the reporting don't usually have issues with namecalling, they are well versed in it.

Thanks for the link Duncin.

My sister got a 100th birthday certificate congratulations from Pope Francis for our late mum. When framed, it was put on the wall opposite her bed. She loved it and it brought her joy and peace as she neared the end of her life. She and I watched the Easter Mass.

Francis died a year later almost to the day of her death.

I am loving the Andy Burnham's appearance thread. Provides some excellent satire.

TemperanceWest · 24/06/2026 10:20

I was just reading that too, very funny.

Conversely I have little time for posters who performatively post "reported" rather than just reporting. (To the extent that if I ever post "reported" it's as the tiniest joke to myself and hopefully the poster that has amused me 😀)

I don't think there is much more to be done when you have the impression - rightly or wrongly - that there can sometimes be a thumb on the scales of moderation.

That Arc conference has quite the list of donors - US money buying influence in the UK. Fracking and crapto & online deregulation top of their lists -

While ARC is also heavily backed by the owners of GB News – hedge fund manager Paul Marshall and the Dubai-based investment group Legatum – a list of donors for this year’s conference shows that it has received financial backing from powerful US donors with close ties to the Trump administration.
Analysis by the climate investigations outlet DeSmog and Greenpeace’s Unearthed found that the donors include Anthony Pratt, an Australian-born billionaire who reportedly donated $14m to the Trump-supporting Make America Great Again Super Pac, and a further $1.1m to the president’s inaugural fund.

I'm wondering if the Miliband hatred comes from the fact that GB Energy is looking to (very quietly) be doing all it was set to do. One of the more egregious examples of the lack of communication that dogged Starmer.

Notonthestairs · 24/06/2026 10:56

So Paul Marshall owns GB news.

Paul Marshall donates millions of pounds to Arc.
Arcs other funders are involved in fossil fuels.
Paul Marshall owns £2.2 billion in fossil fuel investment.

GB News and Arc deny climate change and promote fossil fuels.
The same fund Farage and Badenoch.

Quite the grift.

Same applies to Farage and the crapto billionaires obviously.

Throw in some US religious groups and you've got yourself quite the party.

Notonthestairs · 24/06/2026 11:02

Yes, there has been quite the move against Miliband - an awful lot of faux outrage spouted.

When you realise who is funding the media it makes an awful lot of sense.

GB News has lost a lot of money. It's not a money making investment. It's a means to direct public opinion.

No different to Musk buying Twitter.

And populated by the same people.
