A chat thread for those who don't like this Labour* *government. 💙

The problem with socialism is that you eventually run out of other people's money.

Round here:
70-year-old neighbour continued renovating his house, with lots of hammering and drilling.
86 year-old, out to the shops at 8am as usual. Stayed in and keeps a bath full of cool water which she gets into from time to time.
78 year-old had 7 grandchildren in a 3 bedroomed semi from lunchtime until picked up from 6pm onwards.
A number in their 60s, 70s, 80s and 90s left our local Over 60s lunch early to travel to where their DC or GC live in order to get to their GC's and GGC's schools to stand in the playground in the sun and wait for them to be sent home after lunch. And then, presumably, entertained said GC and GGC until the parents finished work. It's great that teachers got some respite from the heat but a big burden then falls on the elderly.

Oh yes ,I know able older people who have been carrying on albeit hot this week at 76.and 85 !

I meant and did say : older and vulnerable people living in independant living and care homes.

MPforTitipu · 27/06/2026 16:24

Yep. Nearly all the people I listed live independently, although a couple live in supported accommodation.

Well done to the person who got my post deleted

Incredibly helpful.

Sorry your party is a shambles. 😬🤣

That Tapp man looks like a liability. I am surprised that Mahmood can’t sack him herself, or at least that Starmer wouldn’t automatically act on her request to kick him out.

It all seems incredibly dysfunctional and out of control.

Perhaps they should ponder all the deletions on their own thread before they judge this one. There were quite a few when I looked.

I'm amazed you found it. It's not shown up in active for ages! (When I've been online, in case anybody gets offended!)

SapphireCasino · 27/06/2026 20:44

So one of the things I said was this

  • This is purely statement of fact so it shouldn't offend anybody

I was wondering if the posters here who thought that Shabana Mahmood was doing well were aware that she has literally welcomed asylum seekers on the shore in the past. This was in Greece.

I never see it. Guess you have to delve in sub areas.

Nuthatch26 · 27/06/2026 20:52

I didn't see your post before it was zapped Sapphire, but I know you never post anything deliberately* *offensive.

I didn't know that about Mahmood, but have heard of other questionable behaviour she's taken part in so I'm not surprised.

I am borderline apoplectic atm - at everything Labour does.

Burnham is going to prove a complete and utter disaster - we all know it.

I am holding out for an early GE - it’s the only hope that keeps me going.

Nuthatch26 · 27/06/2026 21:06

I think I've gone past apoplectic, now just incredulous.
Are they really this ridiculous, or am I on drugs? Hard to tell, but I want to get off.

I haven't even read my beloved Times today.

Same. I haven’t bothered lately. They’re a mess.

Bullandbear · 27/06/2026 21:13

Andy Burnham’s top ally has called for a sharp increase in capital gains tax and a relaxation of the fiscal rules to enable the Government to borrow billions.

Louise Haigh, who ran Mr Burnham’s Makerfield campaign and is in line for a senior role in his Cabinet, is also pressing for the Treasury to be dismantled.

One thing is for CERTAIN - it’s going to get a lot worse, before (IF) it gets better.

Prime example of why I'm incredulous. I despair.
What makes Lou Haigh qualified to dismantle the fucking treasury of a G7 economy? I noticed she'd had a glow up.
Let's hope Burnham hasn't given her a work phone. 🙄

Who will lend to them if they do all this?

Pacificwave · 27/06/2026 22:34

This will all end in tears.

They have taxed both labour and capital to the point that they cannot squeeze anymore out without negatively impacting the total tax take. Will the understand the market signal? Learn? I doubt it.

I think they will come after your house, your pension, your savings. Not only will this be awful when it happens for all those involved, but it will scar the country for years. We won’t get capital inflows and our best and brightest will consider emigrating.

Clown show. 🤡

justasking111 · 27/06/2026 22:34

Saw in the telegraph allies urging Burnham to make Louise Haigh the Chancellor. I've never heard of her.
