A chat thread for those who don't like this Labour* *government. 💙

The problem with socialism is that you eventually run out of other people's money.

Lots of tax em more posts. I have a feeling Burnham’s going to be summer heat, barracks and tax hikes.

Plus nonsense about women being too fluffy to think of a defence plan or budgets.

I wonder if an electrician could re-enable it?

It's in the actual unit controller - I'm not too fussed as we don't get high temperatures really, but it just goes to show how controlling the powers that be are about aircon functions, especially in Scotland.

I mean, really.

Meanwhile, another good piece in the DT.

Andy Burnham must “be honest” with the public and call an early election or risk the same fate as the past five prime ministers, Lord Case has said.
In his first major interview since leaving Downing Street, Lord Case, the former cabinet secretary, said Mr Burnham was walking “a very difficult tightrope” because he had promised change but had no mandate to deliver it.

He warned that Mr Burnham would go the same way as Theresa May, Boris Johnson, Liz Truss, Rishi Sunak and Sir Keir Starmer, all of whom left Downing Street early, if he repeated their “cakeism” of telling the public everything was possible.

I don't have a subscription to The Times but I understand they are reporting that Shabana Mamood is introducing a refugee sponsorship scheme.

I knew she was wrong un.

@Pacificwave thank you for the link

The nightmare just doesn't end.

I swear they're on the wind up.

I can't imagine how vulnerable people have coped this week like independsnt living or the elderly in care homes and the people trying to look after them

Two elderly relatives and a NDN have passed away in the last two days. They were very poorly anyway, but I can't help thinking that the heat saw them off 😔

This might be the article: Ukrainian-style scheme to bring thousands of refugees to the UK

What a flip after being the hardline one.

Although handy on mn for those vocal on bringing people here, now they personally can do it.

I thought that. Perfect opportunity for those people to put their money where their mouth is!

Yep. And it’s great because so many say they want integration. Easy all set out for them.

SapphireCasino · 27/06/2026 08:11

But how could anyone believe the hardline stance after all the things she had said - and done - prior?

Yep, crack on. They usually say they 'don't have space', now they can cough up and sponsor. Hopefully their sponsored male from Eritrea will be housed close by so they can personally keep an eye on them.

This allows people to privately sponsor refugees by committing to providing financial, emotional and settlement support for an initial 12 months after a refugee arrives in the country.

Great. There have been a few annoyed others don’t want to do more. Now they can.

Well yes, she's Labour at the end of the day.

Well yes, she's Labour at the end of the day.

Yes, probably swinging to the left in an attempt to burnish her credentials with Burnham.

I threw up a little at Reeves’s simpering obsequiousness last week.

Why don’t they simply perform a collective bending-of-the-knee to the King of the North?

EasternStandard · 27/06/2026 08:46

She wants to keep her job at this point surely.

I reckon she knows that actually very few people will do it, but she's giving the most vocal supporters a chance to show that, actually, they're not as supportive as they thought!

They should do it with taxes too so anyone who wangs on about wanting to pay more does personally.

This and a tax version would take up a few on here.

I was thinking the same. I hope its that! I see at the end of the article this has the support of Burnham. Wonder if she'll stay stay in post.

It's so funny how quiet that lot go when you point out that there's already a way to pay extra money to HMRC if you want. It appears that they only want to pay more of other people's money, not their own!

Yes agree, its quite cringe worthy.

Also agree on Reeves. I almost felt sorry for her. But then I remembered the smirking, lies, and "bleating" comments. She's made her bed.

Yep exactly.

Another nice side question, every Labour politician can be asked if they’ll sign up to the scheme.
