A chat thread for those who don't like this Labour* *government. 💙

The problem with socialism is that you eventually run out of other people's money.

Yep exactly.

Another nice side question, every Labour politician can be asked if they’ll sign up to the scheme.

And the Green MPs

I love how hard posters are pushing back on private help. Who knew they just wanted to talk about helping but not actually do it 🫠

justasking111 · 27/06/2026 09:34

These ministers if sacked will lose a hefty chunk of their salary £60k pa. Loyalty is hard with this looming.

I thought that. Perfect opportunity for those people to put their money where their mouth is!

Exactly. She has neutralised that crowd.

I've not read any detail about Mahmood's sponsorship proposal, but judging by the posts on here, it seems to be an open invitation to certain groups to bring over their family members.

The weeping hearts will continue to avoid actually walking the talk, but will be cheering on Mahmood unless or until their lives are impacted in some way.

(As an aside, we're currently on the boat in Yarmouth Harbour. "Mrs Two Degrees" and the Russian warship is still a topic of conversation on the pontoons. I doubt she'll ever live it down.)

Presumably only those with ‘large’ homes should be compelled to help.

i.e. Those subject to the forthcoming mansion tax, and/or those who have a Reform council etc.

There are some who have said they’re in bigger homes and have the money, prime takers for the scheme. Let’s see if they offer.

justasking111 · 27/06/2026 10:44

Our council have already done the exercise. How many bedrooms, how many residents. This is under the umbrella officially of the homeless. Chasing up owners of empty properties has been fruitless apparently.

DenizenOfAisleOfShame · 27/06/2026 11:20

I notice that the left’s wild indignation at press criticism and allegation about Starmer has carried on seamlessly with Burnham.

It would certainly be nice if every journalist, blogger and poster wrote fact-checked, sensible comments. But I’ve got zero sympathy for Labour about this since they circulated gross lies about the Tories constantly. Labour and its supporters are massive, massive hypocrites.

I swear they're on the wind up.

They know they're getting chucked out at the next GE so are filling their boots with "rubbing the noses of the right in diversity" - just like Blair did in the early 00's by not putting limits on the immigration from Eastern European despite most other big EU economies imposing strict limits. It's not about what's best for the country, it's all the politics of spite and envy - it's the Labour way!

Parsley4321 · 27/06/2026 12:29

Great I can’t wait to sign up I wonder if I’ll get a Dr ideal with such long wait lists or maybe even a plastic surgeon brilliant I’m looking a bit tired

Two elderly relatives and a NDN have passed away in the last two days. They were very poorly anyway, but I can't help thinking that the heat saw them off 😔

So sorry for your losses.

SpaceRaccoon · 27/06/2026 14:54

In reality the 350 a month will be a people smuggling, HMO-owning dream, at taxpayer expense. That will be the bulk of the uptake.

DenizenOfAisleOfShame · 27/06/2026 15:05

Which asylum seekers would qualify for sponsorship? Those awaiting decision, for example, or those who have already been granted asylum, or both, etc?

Nail on the head. Lots more mattresses on floors, several to a room, often above dodgy kebab shops. Look at the Morecambe Bay Cockle Pickers - living in squalor as modern day slaves. This initiative will just fuel it and give the slave masters more money for doing it.

My friend at the council recently inspected a property three flats at the request of the owner. Big grants available per flat. There were mattresses everywhere. Obviously totally illegal. They were told to ignore that and process the grants

The New Progressivism... enthusiastic support for modern slavery. Don't like it? You're Far Right.

I can't imagine how vulnerable people have coped this week like independsnt living or the elderly in care homes and the people trying to look after them

Round here:
70-year-old neighbour continued renovating his house, with lots of hammering and drilling.
86 year-old, out to the shops at 8am as usual. Stayed in and keeps a bath full of cool water which she gets into from time to time.
78 year-old had 7 grandchildren in a 3 bedroomed semi from lunchtime until picked up from 6pm onwards.
A number in their 60s, 70s, 80s and 90s left our local Over 60s lunch early to travel to where their DC or GC live in order to get to their GC's and GGC's schools to stand in the playground in the sun and wait for them to be sent home after lunch. And then, presumably, entertained said GC and GGC until the parents finished work. It's great that teachers got some respite from the heat but a big burden then falls on the elderly.

LupaMoonhowl · 27/06/2026 15:31

The financial support ought b to extend to paying school fees/private health care etc.
A sanctimonious teacher at a school I worked in sponsored a Ukrainan woman and child and complained that when she moved out her housing benefit didn’t get her a good enough property (by his standards) property and if course she couldn’t work because she needed to be at home when her (secondary age) son got home from school (state school place)
