Guess my age

No this isn't going to be one of those threads where I post a photograph and ask you to say how old you think I look.

I just thought for a bit of fun for anyone who like me has too much time on their hands, I would post a few facts about myself and see if you can guess my age.

I will post odd random facts over the next day, then tell you my age tomorrow.

This is a new user name, in case I have mentioned my age in previous post.

Fact 1) My mother used to wear dresses made of crimplene.

Fact 2) My father used to ride a bike and wore cycle clips to stop his trousets from getting caught in the cycle chain.

78 everything you describe also describes my mum including the boots Saturday job

😤 misread the original post....

Can't read or count today 🙄

But parents aren't necessarily the same age!
I think you might be something like me OP - big parental age gap, and born to an older mother. both of my parents were born before 1920, both in the armed forces WW2, and I'm young enough to have liked Jackie.

Deadlykitten · 18/06/2026 17:22

55

Decimalisation came in 1971, so unless the OP was paid a sixpence at 5 days old, she can't be.

Ang69 · 18/06/2026 18:22

Based on your further clues I'm revising your age from 71 down to 68! I think you were a surprise baby with your mum having you at age 45.

My next clue is very niche, but it might help someone who used to work in Boots back in the day.

I had a Saturday job in Boots from age 16 - 18 and the uniform was a pink overall with a wide navy blue stripe down the middle.

You're a bit younger than I thought, then. I think you must be at most 71 or slightly younger, down to about 67. Your mum had you fairly late, perhaps in her forties.

thecatdidit · 18/06/2026 18:26

I'm enjoying your reminiscing @openthefrontdoor . I reckon you're 68 and yout parents would've been considered older parents when you was born.

Executrixnotextraordinaire · 18/06/2026 18:28

OP, I put it you that you were born in 1951/52 and are 74.

Monty36 · 18/06/2026 18:28

Given we don’t know how old her mum was when she had her all very hard to work out. People can easily be out by some margin. Despite the clues.

cornflakecrunchie · 18/06/2026 18:34

Yes, I remember Biba. Do you remember Chelsea Girl too?

I was a BHS Saturday girl myself OP

I remember Chelsea girl too and their communal changing rooms 🫤

ASuitableName · 18/06/2026 18:40

I think you’re 72

Ilovegermany · 18/06/2026 18:41

I think you must be around my parents age. Born late 1940s. Probably first black and white TV for the queen‘s coronation but maybe not if you don’t remember the king. Maybe a little later. I say born around 1950. My grandmother was born just before ww1 and my grandfather at the end. Her toyboy. So could quite easily have 2 parents born before WwI at that age.

Paddingtonridesagain · 18/06/2026 18:43

Do you remember the three day week?

Paddingtonridesagain · 18/06/2026 18:44

What were your favourite TV programmes as a teenager?

letmebetheone · 18/06/2026 18:46

I think you may be my sister😂

Thankingyoumuchly · 18/06/2026 18:50

I’d say 69

Quartzfairy · 18/06/2026 18:54

My Mum’s parents were born in the early 1920’s and my Mum is 76. I’m going to say you’re about the same age.

I was 18 when I was first allowed to vote.

Then I need to revise my estimate and say 74

Cerbonny · 18/06/2026 19:18

I think your mother was in her 40s when you were born. So I'm guessing you were most likely born in the early to mid 1950s. I'll take a punt and say you were born in June 1955, so your age today is 71.

Pearshapedpear · 18/06/2026 19:21

Chelsea Girl was around until the 80s. A friend of mine bought a very ill-advised partially see through dress in there when she was about fourteen so early to mid 80s. It turned into River Island in the late 80s. It started up in the mid sixties by which time OP must have been at the very least an older primary aged child or young teenager given her parents birthdates, so I don't think Chelsea Girl narrows it down much. I mean, I remember Chelsea Girl and I'm in my fifties and so does my aunt who is 75. Someone older would also remember it though they might not have shopped there.

The biggest clue is the Boots uniform which I think must have been early to mid 70s when the OP was 16 to 18. I vaguely remember this and would have been a small child at the time, think it had gone by the late 70s. I have a very good visual memory!

The first car thing would be more significant if it had been new when she bought it.
