Afternoon all.

I've given up today with the fatigue, I'm now off work sick for the week. I'm just going to tidy up the last few bits I've got before I finish in an hour. It's been building for weeks as my chemo side effects are cumulative. On Saturday I helped do some volunteer work at the school but was good by stopping and going home when I felt enough was enough. Then had some bits to do with the kids and promptly fell asleep at 4pm for an hour. Then yesterday we met up with friends, it was a 2 hour car journey there and back and I was the passenger princess. I really didn't do much there as it was a country park so all the kids went feral whilst we all chatted. I then fell asleep at 9pm to be woken up at 7am this morning by the kids coming in. However I went for my blood test this morning and felt like I was going to fall asleep in the waiting room. I rang my boss when I got back and just told him I can't do this at the moment, I don't think the heat helps either. Even DH said for me to admit defeat I must be struggling because I'm such a stubborn mule powering through at times.

TeaAndStrumpets · 06/07/2026 14:21

Oh was there some football? Must have missed it.

Quiet day here but would struggle to make a list of useful things I've done! I've been trying to declutter and just reached some covid cans, expiry 2024! I had a job persuading DH to empty them into the food waste bin. He's been avoiding doing it for weeks (I can't manage ring pulls).

I felt sorry for nagging so I volunteered to batch cook some mince for the freezer. It was agony! I'm not good at standing for long so had to leave it every so often to sit down. There was so much that I needed 2 frying pans (heavy) and I had to bash it a lot to separate it (5% fat so just sticks together) so it was a real work out! It is quite ridiculous how painful and tiring cooking can be, when it was effortless once upon a time. My neck is in spasm now!

@Oioiqueen you are amazing. Be kind to yourself.
@TeaAndStrumpets is there snything you can put on your neck to help? Heat/cold/tens machine or massager?

Thanks I've been giving it a sort of self-massage and hope I've not undone my osteopath's good work! I notice my glands are up as well which doesn't help. The joys of cfs/me. Definitely in a crash I think, everything is just inflamed from my eyelids to my ankles. Hopefully a restful week will sort things out!

Fingers crossed @JewelleryCat

Hope your neck eases off @TeaAndStrumpets

Good decision @Oioiqueen, take care of yourself.

I've had a very irritating day at work, but otherwise ok. Had counselling (interesting talk about my window of tolerance). Paid lots of money to new landlord and now messaging to sort out picking up keys, getting fridge delivered etc. Going to try to do a little more clearing out tonight - I might do the secret cupboard in the attic room.

Oioiqueen · 06/07/2026 16:54

@TeaAndStrumpets it's s the one thing I have to dial down when the fatigue is hard. I love cooking so it's a real pain. I try and batch on the good days but we are now trying to eat down the freezer as we want to replace it.

@CoffeeBeansGalore i don't feel it to be honest, I feel a bit of a failure. I find it very hard to accept sometimes that my life has changed dramatically and will continue to do so.

Oioiqueen · 06/07/2026 16:55

@martha79 ive done window of tolerance too with my counsellor. I'm meant to be doing some breath work each day... Have I started it?.... I'm no 😂

If you haven't chosen a freezer yet can I heartily recommend one with auto defrost. They are wonderful!

No, it was all over in a matter of minutes then she went back to her van. I think the council is cheaper than private pest companies

Oioiqueen · 06/07/2026 17:24

@TeaAndStrumpets unfortunately we are restricted to a small American fridge freezer as otherwise half the kitchen will need to be ripped out. So considerably cheaper to change like for like haha!

How annoying! We have a separate freezer which we keep in a downstairs bedroom. (AKA junk room lol) No way we could cram an American f/f into our current pathetic kitchen!

TeaAndStrumpets · 07/07/2026 09:20

Morning all!

It's so nice today, 25° indoors and sunny out.

I slept very well and have been tidying (slightly!) But done enough for one day. I don't think we'll ever achieve a tidy house. In my tidying I found 3 steel tape measures and 1 cloth one. I think we get one out, misplace it, then can't spot it, get another one out, misplace it, rinse and repeat!

CoffeeBeansGalore · 07/07/2026 09:27

Morning.
The quickest way to find something is buy another one 😁

Yes!! I know when we move I'll find all the lost hair bobbles, biros etc which have vanished over the years.
The last few weeks I've been searching high and low for a white sleeveless Hanro nightie. Can't afford to replace it, it was an indulgence at the time. So thin and cool, I just love it. Vanished into thin air. I suspect it's been washed and dried with some white bedding, now hidden in the airing cupboard.

martha79 · 07/07/2026 10:13

@Oioiqueen I sort of knew about window of tolerance but it was interesting to go through it in detail. I think mine used to be very wide and has been suddenly narrowed!

I'm getting a new fridge freezer in the new place, but ordered by the landlord so I'm not sure what it'll be, other than not huge as the gap isn't that big. I only really want a freezer for ice and ice lollies - if I put anything else in there, I forget it exists and only have to excavate it many months later.

I've also decided to buy a new bed, which will be all my choice and I'm rather excited about it.

Picking up the keys later and taking a few basics over - loo roll, towel etc.

Swanhilde · 07/07/2026 10:45

Slept like a log last night and feeling woozy this morning. Guessing the early morning football is taking it's toll (totally worth it though) ⚽

Am sitting on my lounger in the garden drinking a coffee. Need DH to move some soil for me later and then I can finally put my runner beans in to the bed. That it's now, except for the squash and watering! Next heatwave is on its way here 🥵

Will be resting today as I am meeting my friends in the pub later. Luckily we meet just around the corner from my house, so minimal travel. And it will be lovely to catch up over a soda water 🍹

Have a restful day all 💕

Oioiqueen · 07/07/2026 13:19

@TeaAndStrumpets its not a full height one but it has pull out full height cupboards either side of it and an above head cupboard above it. All the rage in the mid 2000's (I used to design kitchens). So anything different would leave either a stupid gap either side of it or you'd have to rip out cupboards and as kitchens are expensive I don't fancy it.

@martha79 I don't think mine was ever particularly wide. I do however now suffer with noise sensitivities where I never used to. Just getting old I think and just less tolerant in general. On the freezer subject I imagine you with the door open a pickaxe in one hand, oven gloves for thermal protection and goggles trying to find the bag of peas haha!

Feeling better today in terms of fatigue, had a dead to the world kind of sleep last night. We could have had an earthquake for all I knew. Taken it relatively easy today pottering. However I'll admit it's nice knowing I'm not back at work tomorrow or Thursday so I haven't felt pressure to get everything done.

Dozymoo42 · 07/07/2026 14:28

Afternoon all 😊 hope everyone is having a restful day!

i’m still feeling less than sparkling and am still laying in bed, just had a chat with my boss about not being able go back to work so feel a little better now that is done.

JewelleryCat · 07/07/2026 14:46

If anyone is struggling with sleep, I bought myself some loop quiet 2 earplugs and I find they work for me. Before, even when I was boiling, I couldn’t sleep with any noise and since I bought these, I can sleep with the fan on which is good lol

TodayIsatrickyone · 07/07/2026 15:35

Hello 👋
Wont let me change my user name or I’d be Todayisachilledone!

Just checking in from just off the coast of Spain to say I survived a very busy embarkation process ( just about!) but have a lovely cabin to relax in and I’m so glad I made it! Loving just chilling on the balcony, reading and feeling quite relaxed already. Definitely eating far too much but that’s part of cruising tbf!

It’s a massive ship though, meaning a lot of people so that’s the trickiest bit for me especially on a scooter but I’m wearing loop earplugs all the time which are helping my noise sensitivity and we’ve worked out a few quieter spots. In hindsight a smaller ship may have been better but I’m not complaining! It will be quieter once we get to the first port tomorrow so I shall maybe hunt for a hot tub or a pool if my body is playing ball of course.

Hope everyone can cope with yet another heatwave. We have sun but sea breezes so perfect for me!
Take care all

TeaAndStrumpets · 07/07/2026 15:52

Fabulous @TodayIsatrickyone so glad you are having a nice time!
