I also do the thing of trying to get more of the same tableware on Ebay @TeaAndStrumpets but I caved recently and bought new side plates, I was down to 2 and they were 20 years old

Yes we are down to to two cereal bowls, two dinner plates and some oddments in that set. Plus about a million side plates. I have loads of tea cups though, I can never have enough . And several teapots 😊

I have given up on hosting family gatherings so don't feel the need to get a new dinner service at the moment. If I needed in emergency there's MIL's hoard, but everything is in six place settings which is not enough.

TeaAndStrumpets · 19/07/2026 17:59

Well I have to report I just saw SIX magpies in my garden. I've never seen so many at once. I think it's called a parliament? If so they could probably do a better job than the buffoons we have in London.

Edit to say SorryNotSorry for being political!

Six? Did you have to salute them all?

No I never thought of that! Usually I only see one at a time and don't rest easy until I spot the second one 😄

We have just started season 3 of The Capture, really gripping. One episode a night is my limit, it's quite tense!

I found the first series very confusing and didn’t go back

MewithME · 19/07/2026 20:25

Ahem ... I'm getting twitchy so I've set next one up... ready

@TeaAndStrumpets I have a book called A Parliament of Rooks.... I think there's a few birds use it as a collective noun. Apparently magpies can also be a mischief!

There's a load here ...make such a noise. I like them though lots of people think they're horrible.

Buffoon is a underused word. Did anyone see Liz Truss at her weird conference thing? She's crackers.

I am so cynical about politicians of all parties!

Birds are just joyous.

CoffeeBeansGalore · 19/07/2026 21:42

I think it's a murder of crows.

We have some noisy buggers around here. But a large wooded area in the village so unsurprising

JewelleryCat · 19/07/2026 22:07

We should just have Larry the Cat for PM and that’s it. Animals bring people joy

MewithME · 19/07/2026 22:28

Yes, birds are wonderful @TeaAndStrumpets 😊

Larry lasted a lot longer than the humans! @JewelleryCat

I'd vote for Larry!

Hello again 5am... to be fair I did go to sleep about half nine. Woke up at one point because I'd fallen asleep listening to sleep stories and the voice crept into my dreams as a sort of weird robot calling my name 😱😂

Felt pretty rough last night after a busy day. Still horizontal at the moment but I think I'm not too bad. Got to go and drag all the rubbish outside for a collection that could come any time from 7am then I'm definitely having a less active day.

CoffeeBeansGalore · 20/07/2026 05:24

Miorning
Fell asleep just after midnight. I remember dh coming to bed then I made it to 3.40am.

I'd also vote Larry!

martha79 · 20/07/2026 07:10

Yay, I managed to get all the rubbish outside by 7:02 😂 through a process of five minutes moving, fifteen minutes resting, and occasional topping up with jelly babies (and to be honest, about five moments of "I can't do any more of this!"). Am disgustingly dusty and slightly mouldy from the cellar now, going to have a quick shower then stay horizontal as much as possible today. Got another person popping in to quote for a boiler at some point this morning, and counselling this afternoon, otherwise definitely a rest day.

Morning

To get political

I am rooting for a Count Binface by election win and the demise of Farage. He spells nothing good for disabled people

To get political with you, I’d much rather see Count Binface vs Nigel Farage instead of 34 candidates on the ballot paper

ValleyClouds · 20/07/2026 10:00

I don’t think the other 32 will get much traction hopefully @JewelleryCatanyone who would vote for one of the main 4 parties will go Binface fingers crossed

He spells nothing good for anyone who isn't rich already. Horrible man.

If I was in Clacton, I’d vote Binface. I also read Mr Fishfinger was standing but he isn’t on the ballot now

Dozymoo42 · 20/07/2026 11:34

Enjoy your new home @martha79! 💐🍾🎉

Another vote for Count BInFace! Farage makes my skin crawl, we were part of the Makerfield by election and it drove us all up the wall why it was going on.

martha79 · 20/07/2026 11:53

Vote Binface! Apparently the guy behind him is very intelligent. Whereas Farage is, well...

Boiler chap came at 8:15 so I've been back in bed for a few hours. Slept a bit. Just got up for some lunch.

I despair at the number of women voting for him because he'll 'get the immigrants out' and I have to shout very loudly that this will be the least of your worries. Particularly when your rights as a women will be further pushed back to victorian times, you won't get any women's health surgery on the NHS as it'll all be private and the equality act will be repelled so you won't get equal pay.

Some people really are just gammon with no critical thinking skills.

TodayIsatrickyone · 20/07/2026 14:01

Glad to read the move is progressing well @martha79 and you’ve got good friends helping you. It must be stressful and impossible to switch your head off right now but in the not too distant future, you’ll be in and settled and all will lovely!

Im just adding a boo hiss to the slimeball that is Farage…. I still can’t quite believe he has supporters at all but then look at America and Trump! I still have to pinch myself that he’s president… for a second time and its not all a bad dream! Actually scares me that these corrupt men have the amount of power they do…
Sorry that definitely got political!
