@TodayIsatrickyone Fabulous!!!

Dozymoo42 · 07/07/2026 20:50

So glad your having a lovely time @TodayIsatrickyone!

martha79 · 08/07/2026 05:08

@Oioiqueen your mental image of me and the freezer is fairly accurate 🤣

@TodayIsatrickyone so glad you made it on holiday, I hope you have a lovely time.

Been awake since 3, after a restless sleep, which is really unhelpful as I've got a full day event to run at work today.

Got the flat keys yesterday which is great but it was a horrible journey in rush hour and I feel overwhelmed by the list of things to do/ sort out at the moment. There's no electricity currently as it's on a prepayment meter and it's gone past the emergency credit, and I don't have a key to top it up (emailed the supplier last night as I won't get a chance to phone today, so hoping they'll be able to sort that quickly).

Just had breakfast, might see if I can nap a bit before work.

CoffeeBeansGalore · 08/07/2026 06:02

Morning.
I've been awake all night too. Birds started raving around 2.30am. "D"h has been snoring on & off (jealous). I've given up on getting any sleep now.
Hopefully I will be able to have a nap once he's gone to work.

TeaAndStrumpets · 08/07/2026 06:57

Morning early birds. I've been up since 5.30. DH always claims he wakes up very early and hardly gets a wink of sleep, but he seems to be out for the count!

I have spent the last few days browsing tiles on the internet. I've got the colour sense of a three year old so it is really difficult to choose something tasteful. Our house got done piecemeal as we could afford it, so having to choose cohesive flooring for all the ground floor is a challenge. I have sent for samples, no way could I walk round a showroom.

We are supposed to complete on our house sale this week, but the buyers are now asking for a small reduction so the solicitors are handling it.

TeaAndStrumpets · 08/07/2026 08:53

DH is reading the Times online. He's just asked me "Who is Taylor Swift?"

Swanhilde · 08/07/2026 10:04

Morning! Had a lovely evening catching up with friends yesterday evening but got back later than planned so didn't sleep well 🥱

Have watered the pots and pulled some prints this morning, so that's me done for today - my lounger awaits ☀️😎☕

Stay cool everyone 💕

Oh dear! 😅

HUGE fan here

Sorry I’m not posting

I didn’t want to be the one who kept posting “I’m in pain” and not responding to other people’s posts

Pain slightly improved still waiting for the right appointment

JewelleryCat · 08/07/2026 10:32

Just to let you know, it is the Cherry van again lol for Ocado

Glad the pain is bearable today!

DH is a bit of a relic and mostly listens to classic Blues singers, though he's a long time Dylan fan. I found him some Taylor Swift on YouTube and he was quite complimentary!

@JewelleryCat I don't think Waitrose do fruit, I only see it as it backs into the drive!

@Swanhilde sorry to disturb your rest, but if the kettle is on anytime soon could I beg a peppermint tea? Many thanks!

ValleyClouds · 08/07/2026 10:53

@TeaAndStrumpets Funny! My favourite teacher got me into Dylan. Also a huge fan though he wasn’t much cop live!

Swanhilde · 08/07/2026 11:07

On its way @TeaAndStrumpets

I also made some vanilla ice-cream yesterday, so that will be available too this afternoon 🍦

Dead easy - cream, carnation milk and vanilla extract whisked in the food processor then bunged in the freezer overnight. Had a cheeky lick of the spoon 😋

Ah we get the purple plums I think it is here. I'm really invested in what you get each week now.

Oioiqueen · 08/07/2026 11:11

@Swanhilde I see people buying the really expensive ninja creamer things to make ice cream and I just don't get it. It's so easy to make ice cream without a fancy machine.

It’ll probably be cherry again next week but I’ll let you know

TeaAndStrumpets · 08/07/2026 19:11

I volunteered to buy DGS some new boots for starting college and I think I need to sell a kidney. Bloody hell. His Mum was young during the grunge years, so she just wore rags and some old DMs! We must have saved a fortune.

ValleyClouds · 08/07/2026 19:14

Everything is more expensive for less quality these days (grump)

danglethedingle · 08/07/2026 19:35

@martha79 I fully understand your excitement in getting a new bed! I scraped up enough to buy a new mattress after I split up with Horrible ExH. It was very cathartic seeing the old one get carted off in the van. Where you sleep is so very personal.

@TodayIsatrickyone so glad you are having a nice time, hope it continues and you feel the benefit for a long time after you get back.

I've been back down South on Monday, and back home today. Quite a whirlwind visit, and not nice driving down on Monday in the heat. My poor DM is unwell again with an infection in her leg, and I really wanted to go and see her. She has had a very rough few months, and I feel very guilty that I live a 5 hour drive away and cannot support her much. Not that I would be much use for a good proportion of the time, but that doesn't stop me fretting.

Anyway, I took her to the GP, and we did some shopping and errands, and just sat and chatted. I also caught up with Number 1 son. He is a love, he does his Grannies food shopping each week and generally keeps an eye on her. I am very proud of the man he has become.

Both DH and I are now exhausted, and are planning a couple of days doing the minimum. Or less.

TeaAndStrumpets · 09/07/2026 06:45

Morning all!

Slept until 6.30. Bedroom 25° already so have found a cooler room to sit in. My ankles are still swollen from yesterday so I've got my feet up. I think today is going to be a scorcher.

Hope you all keep cool, I'm envying @TodayIsatrickyone her sea breezes!

danglethedingle · 09/07/2026 07:01

I woke up at 6 already too hot. DH was still asleep, so I crept out with DDog and walked him slowly round the block so he thinks hes had a walk. And I have watered the vegetable beds. I think that will be the extent of my useful contribution today, its already too warm here.

DH is still asleep, he is exhausted after the drive yesterday. Hope everyone copes ok, I am seriously considering an ice lolly for breakfast.

Poor DDog will appreciate not burning his paws later!

27° in the coolest part of the house already, but it will be 33° later on. It is so still out there, not much hope of a breeze.

CoastalCalm · 09/07/2026 08:26

Awful night , took ages to get to sleep - 1hr 35 according to Oura but longer and then stoma bag blew out so rest of the night up and down emptying and trying to sleep. Typically I’ve got plans today which now are not going to be easy - lunch with mum and niece then some shopping , urgh

ValleyClouds · 09/07/2026 08:45

Morning everyone

Another with not a great night sleep. Woke up every hour from 3. Terrific. Looking forward to the women’s semifinal today

martha79 · 09/07/2026 08:49

Morning all, handing round the virtual ice lollies and sympathy for poor nights sleep. I actually didn't sleep too badly, but am already hot and irritated this morning. Work today, got a couple of meetings, but also two appointments - a 'managing stress' session with the LC hub, and they've referred me to the ENO Breathe programme so have my quick chat/ assessment for that.

bedfrog · 09/07/2026 08:56

Morning all, seems like a few of us slept badly last night...me too! There are a few really stressful things going on at the moment and I cannot cope well with change, so everything feels terrible and awful.

Considering going down to the river today for a gentle swim if it gets really hot.

Stay cool everyone
