Went out this morning to see DD1 and DGS. He is doing so well, he looks really healthy and is regaining his lost weight extremely fast. He was so pale and sad last time I saw him it is a transformation. He was playing me some music on the piano. His younger brother has lessons but he never has, he just "plays how it should sound" which amazes me.

Much reassured but very tired after socialising! Quiet afternoon ahead.

Oioiqueen · 01/07/2026 12:52

@martha79 amazinggggggg congratulations

Swanhilde · 01/07/2026 12:58

Have been out this morning for a coffee with a friend who I haven't seen for ages. Was really lovely to catch up but now I am home and shattered ☕

Will spend the afternoon in bed I think 🥱

Great news about the house @martha79 ❤️

Popping in quickly to say thanks for all the good wishes on the flat - I just signed the contract!

Will catch up properly later, apparently I'm supposed to be working...

Congratulations 🥳

@TodayIsatrickyone sorry your junior was a bit brusque. Sometimes I think they forget that there is an actual person with feelings behind the case notes. They've read the books and reports but we're actually living it.

I hope this will make you laugh.
I used to temp as a medical secretary, often in a dept for a few months at a time.
It was late afternoon & I was quietly audio typing alone at the corner desk in my consultant's office. He dealt with bowel, gastro type cases. I noticed 2 juniors come in & sit at the other side of the room with no acknowledgement. I'd stopped typing to read back through a paragraph and so it was silent.
I heard one groan & say to the other - ugh tell you what, you look at my arse and I'll get the sandwiches.
I turned to look at them whilst removing my headphones & raised an eyebrow.
They almost jumped as they realised I was there, the look on their faces as they realised how that sounded.
Stutters, embarassed um err umm that's not how it sounded. And couldn't get out quick enough as I started laughing.

That job definitely had it's moments!

That’s so funny!!
And yes you're spot on about the junior looking at facts/ figures and forgetting there was an over anxious human worried enough about going on holiday (away from the nearby hospital in case of emergency!) who just wanted reassurance!

Congratulations @martha79

Fab news to hear DGS is doing so well @TeaAndStrumpets

Dozymoo42 · 01/07/2026 14:18

Congrats @martha79so nice to have lovely news! 🎉🍾🥳

martha79 · 02/07/2026 08:54

Thanks all, I'm very relieved, and excited and also absolutely exhausted currently. Also glad I'd taken the last two weeks of July off on leave - I know what I'll be spending those doing now!

Glad to hear it's all settling down for DGS @TeaAndStrumpets

Work today - couple of meetings but it's not to hectic. Meant to have someone coming round to look at replacing the boiler here but he was a bit vague about what time. Very glad it's nearly the weekend 😴

I am so excited for you, it sounds like you'll be well settled in your new home very soon. You know your friends will be hoping for a housewarming party, right? They sound very supportive so hope you get lots of help on move day!

MewithME · 02/07/2026 11:34

Hello 👋🏻

So pleased for you @martha79

I've not kept up top well. I'm a bit all over the place this week. Just really burnt out and too much in my head. I'm sort of ok but not ok.

Glad DGS is doing better @TeaAndStrumpets !

I've made a good decision to have a very long lunch break starting now. I am on the sofa with a cuppa and just enjoying the quiet for once. I need to just sit with my feelings I think to be very hippy dippy about it. Too much rush rush and need to just be.

Such great news @martha79
@CoffeeBeansGalore That story made me laugh, you hear so much when you work in healthcare.

Sorry to everyone struggling 💐

Swanhilde · 02/07/2026 15:55

Slow day here, but then when aren't they? 😊

Acupuncture this morning and then I've been experimenting with some lino cutting this afternoon as I want to print up some fabric. I've found a website that prints it up for you but I don't have any black ink! Oh well, means I'll have to visit our local art supply shop tomorrow 🎨

Watching Wimbledon now with a cuppa ☕

Have a restful day all 💕

Haha, they can come one at a time for mini housewarmings with a cuppa! I'm trying to make a plan to get the non-essentials over there first, so I can still sleep and work at the current place and do a final move when I'm really ready. Need to make a proper list at the weekend!

Oh I love lino cut prints on cards but had never thought about fabric!

TodayIsatrickyone · 02/07/2026 17:27

A slow day here too, not much to report other than a bit tired following osteopath yesterday and weirdly lower back has started to twinge today 🙄
I was scrolling through some info on anxiety the therapist emailed and there was a really simple diagram with 2 circles… things I can’t control- let it go… things I can control- focus on those.
Simple in theory but was effective when I started to panic a bit again in the early hours. Thought I’d share for the over thinkers amongst us.

Sitting outside with a cuppa and dippy dog and DH is sorting out some baked potatoes for dinner. Trying to run the fridges down before we go away so dinner choices are limited this week! DH suggested a takeaway and DD told him no as we’ll eat far too many things we shouldn’t in the next two weeks 😂

That is a very good tip! I think being able to ignore things we can't control is a gift, but sadly I do agonise about things. I get upset by awful things in the news, even though I can't do anything. I do think I'd hate living in ignorance, but it is difficult to think positive sometimes. I suppose it's all a balance.

Unfortunately sometimes, like the last few days , if I feel mentally and physically wiped out I don't have the energy to do much except read the news etc or MN. They call it doomscrolling for a reason! It was actually better for my MH when I was avoiding screens and just had audiobooks.

TodayIsatrickyone · 02/07/2026 18:41

Yes @TeaAndStrumpets Im definitely a worrier but since the stroke it’s really been amplified. Understandable logically and emotional liability is a symptom apparently but horrible when I feel it spiralling.
The tip is perhaps a bit oversimplified but it resonated with me this week as I really need to park my health worries until I have more information to go on and that wont be for a while. May be a work in progress for us!

I actually have been avoiding the news or just reading headlines. I’m just too emotional! Poor DH is filtering it and flicking over if it’s too distressing. But then I feel even more isolated! Maybe I should add that to my goal list… tolerate 5 mins of news!

martha79 · 02/07/2026 19:26

I don't think people are really built to watch news especially in its modern form - I don't remember being particularly distressed by it as a child, but we watched just the 6pm news and there was a lot more of just seeing the newsreaders read things out in a factual way. I honestly don't think our brains are meant to see awful, horrible images every day or be wound up by the more dramatic way it's all presented now. I click on the BBC website for the weather and then a quick glance at the headlines once a day and that does me. I know if anything big happens I'll see something on social media or someone will mention it at work.

I like the theory of the circles of control - my brain thinks we should be able to control everything though 😅

TodayIsatrickyone · 02/07/2026 19:36

Thats a good point Martha about the way news is presented nowadays with so many distressing image as opposed to a familiar newsreader just reading the news factually. It does make sense why it’s hard to watch.

TeaAndStrumpets · 02/07/2026 20:06

@TodayIsatrickyone @martha79 so true. Maybe we should go back to BBC presenters in dinner jackets reading news on the wireless!

JewelleryCat · 02/07/2026 20:42

I only check the news a couple of times a day. If it’s anything important or breaking, it’s usually in trending on here then I go look it up

TodayIsatrickyone · 03/07/2026 12:02

Morning all, a good nights sleep here and feeling much better today. Visible has given me a 4 for the last few days, thank you very much.

A quiet day planned with my audiobook as we go away on Sunday morning 😁and tomorrow will be doing all the last minute bits! Bit anxious about coping but DH and DD have told me all I need to do is get there and then they can bring me food whilst I rest and recover and chill in the cabin for as long as I need. Think I’m actually a bit excited today! 😁 Been a horrible few months for all 3 of us so hopefully this break will do all of us good.

Wishing everyone a peaceful Friday 😊

Oioiqueen · 03/07/2026 12:22

@TodayIsatrickyone i think sometimes we build it up and actually our loved ones don't make it a big deal and just support us. It's hard as you don't want to fe a burden, I'm a stubborn sod sometimes

danglethedingle · 03/07/2026 12:27

@TodayIsatrickyone sounds like a plan to me! Well done your DH and DD, they sound lovely. Hope you have a really brilliant time, you all deserve it.

I've been forced to change internet provider due to the landlines being turned off. I am not happy, but nothing I can do about it. Today was change over day, and of course the app doesn't work.

By default I appear to be the IT department of the household, we think that DH gives out a kind of force field that makes electronic things malfunction. He is not allowed to stand beside me at the self service checkout, it always buggers about when he is there.

Anyhow, I have got 2 tellies, 2 phones, 3 laptops and one kindle swapped over. So feeling quite pleased with myself, I know its a very basic level of computer literacy, but I still find it quite stressful.

The only thing I don't know how to do is the smart meter, so I have emailed Octopus to see if they can advise me.

I never wanted a smart home, I was quite happy with a thick one tbh. At least my kitchen appliances dont need wifi to function.

Hope everyone has a nice day.

Swanhilde · 03/07/2026 13:02

Been to the allotment this morning, picking up some printing ink on the way 🌱😎🎨

Home now and in bed with a cuppa ☕

I feel like I have quite a lot of energy, so I'm being v careful this afternoon as I was v active on the allotment, lots of watering to be done. Am avoiding my own garden as there's much to do and I can't be trusted not to do it 😆

Have a restful afternoon all 💕
