Me too! Still in bed but I've got a parcel to post and I'm tempted to get up now and do it before it gets hot. Due storms tomorrow but weirdly it doesn't seem to be getting much cooler until Sunday. Was meant to have a friend visiting on Friday but we've postponed as she had a long train trip and they're still advising essential travel only (plus at 33C and thundery we thought neither of us would be in the best state).

🤣 at your nighttime exploits @Oioiqueen. I hope all goes well with the scan and you can keep cool.

We've got an 'away day' at work today - thankfully online because we're trying to save money on travel at the moment anyway, but it's a long time to spend on Zoom 😫

Good idea to go out early. It's definitely cooler outside. I think the house has heated up like a big storage heater. Need to air it out before the outside temperature starts to climb, then close windows and curtains later.

I'm puzzled at an away day on Zoom, I bet it isn't much fun as it sounds. Mind you we are not a computer savvy family. DH has to do committee meetings on Zoom which is generally easy, only this month it got moved to Teams which he doesn't (ie doesn't want to) understand. He borrowed my ipad so he could sit somewhere cool with it, then came in later grumbling that he'd had to subscribe to get into the meeting, and "thinks" he's paid for an app. I've no idea if he has or not, we're probably paying for eternity now 😐 I think it will be in my microsoft account somewhere but no idea how to look. What a pair of ninnies.

I made it out and it was really nice!

I spend half my life on Zoom as it is (mostly running online events for other people to attend) but today we're all leaving our normal work aside and having a day as a team discussing how we work together etc. Apparently there are some 'fun' activities too. We usually get together in person for this (we're a completely remote team and all over the country) but budgets are tight at the moment.

I do also use Teams for meetings and I hate it!

That sounds very enjoyable!

@martha79 all day online away day sounds torturous to me, in this heat ...bad enough in any heat! I think online meetings of over an hour are hard work. I was struggling yesterday. My office was about 32 degrees and I'm looking at my colleagues in their big houses which look a lot cooler than mine!

@Oioiqueen was your DH safe last night or is the heat still stirring you up? 😉

@TeaAndStrumpets you can join a teams meeting with a browser if you are sent a link. He shouldn't have had to pay for anything. We use teams all the time but I have to switch sometimes and I'm all fingers and thumbs if it's zoom!

Ah thanks he tends to press buttons in a panic then wonder what he's done so I'll ask if he did it via a link. I'll bet he did.

I am also worried for @Oioiqueen 's husband but maybe worry is the wrong word.

Sounds hot where you are @ValleyClouds we are quite pleasant at the moment but expect 30 later. Tomorrow 33!

Nothing much planned today, although I am negotiating with a man in Blackburn about some storage crates. Such a fun life.

Swanhilde · 25/06/2026 11:05

Went to our end of term shared team lunch yesterday and am pleased to report there were no homemade flapjacks for me to scoff 😆

It's still v hot here in the red zone, but there's a breeze today which is at least moving the air on the cool side of the house 🥵

My parents are coming over for lunch later as they both have local medical appointments. And this evening is an open community event at work, which I'm taking DH to as he hasn't been yet. Should be fun, and thankfully the building is air-conditioned ☺️

Stay cool everyone 😎

BendyAndTired · 25/06/2026 11:24

I’m enjoying the aircon in work today. Normally I’d be sad to be missing the nice weather, but not today

ValleyClouds · 25/06/2026 11:31

@TeaAndStrumpetsits 32 where I am

A bit steep!! Hope it's bearable. Ours is a few degrees cooler outside but hot again tomorrow.

@BendyAndTired and @Swanhilde aircon sounds lovely!

Bluebellsandwishingwells · 25/06/2026 12:56

Sending cooling vibes everyone's way... we will somehow get to next week and the bliss of 20 degrees. I think I might cry with relief!
I do find it comforting to read up on other's stories, it really helps, even if I cant hold much in my head and reply to posts regularly. Thanks hugely for starting this thread @MewithME
Yesterday went to a supermarket cafe and nabbed a table closest to the freezer cabinets, which helped a bit, I was going quite stir-crazy. Bedroom in last heatwave was 32 but with a portable AC unit and dangling hose its 'dropped' to 25 (in same outdoor temps) so am calling that a win for now.
Feel very icky and blobby as cant do any exercise and I'm reliant on that, physically and mentally. Friend has recommended a cosy film and I might just lie on the sofa and watch that this afternoon. It's 28 outside here, just put some washing out and it felt like the Sahara.
Go easy, all.

MewithME · 25/06/2026 13:14

I just collected DS from school, swung by Greggs which has fabulous Aircon then on to buy MORE ice from supermarket.half their freezers have now packed up!

Back home now with an ill advised tuna baguette which will spike my heart rate in about half an hour! Sat in front of the new fan ( thank goodness I got that. .thanks again @CoffeeBeansGalore ). The air-cooler doesn't do much when it's this hot but I'll take any help.

I think it needs a constant supply of ice. My fridge freezer is only small so I can't make ice quickly. My house is too small in general. I resent exh on days like this. My marital home he diddled me out of was so much bigger and better in the heat. But I'd best not get maudlin again.

I'm going to check the temperature....... Yep....32 indoors again. Every surface feels warm. I want to move back north 😭😭😭😭

Same here @MewithME My son is in Scotland and I’m tempted to move up there right now! We’re 31 outside and I think 30 in the lounge where we have 3 fans on! I need to nap but can’t face the bedroom as it will be awful. Also our main freezer broke, have a small freezer compartment but had to stuff what we can in there so no room for ice!

Im not good today, had another dizzy spell last night. Passed when I lay outside and DH got some cold cool mats from the freezer but scared me after recent events so I’m taking it very easy today. Set up on the sofa with legs on cool mats, my iPad and an audio book. Hopefully should drop a little tomorrow to 26 so should be more bearable. Pretty down in the dumps today, fed up with ongoing health issues, my anxiety was sky high last night but logically I know it was likely the heat combined with a crash after having had 2 appointments on consecutive days this week. Next week is sadly the same but both important so needs must.

TodayIsatrickyone · 25/06/2026 13:35

That’s interesting about the portable AC unit @Bluebellsandwishingwells A decent reduction in temp!

JewelleryCat · 25/06/2026 14:02

Urgh the tv is going weak or no signal on and off in this weather which is a pain. I know I have the iPad which I can watch stuff on but I also like the tv and it’s easier, especially if I’m using MN at the same time and commenting on threads like the Emmerdale one. For heat, someone told me about wetting a tea towel and popping it around your neck and it does give relief but I bet it’s cooler in parts of Scotland. Lucky @TodayIsatrickyoneson!

martha79 · 25/06/2026 15:09

Sorry about your dizzy spell @TodayIsatrickyone - the heat really isn't helping anything.

Away day was actually OK - it was well run so not too tedious, and we all had our fans, ice packs and wet towels around us 😂Finished a bit early so I'm sitting on the sofa browsing online. Hung some washing out this morning but it's too hot to retrieve it even though it'll be really dry!

TodayIsatrickyone · 25/06/2026 15:11

Oh that’s a pain re TV @JewelleryCat

Thanks @martha79 Glad your away day was okay.

TeaAndStrumpets · 25/06/2026 15:22

We need to go and sign some papers at the solicitor's. He's not in the office every day so we agreed to go in at 4.30 today. Must be mad! Want to get it done asap though. I'm sure I'll be a sweaty mess! Don't care, I'm past caring this week.

Then I had an email telling me my specs are ready...opted to go at 9.30 in the morning hoping it's cool.

CoffeeBeansGalore · 25/06/2026 15:27

@TodayIsatrickyone Take it easy. Dizzy spells are not good.

We have a small counter top icemaker. Once cleaned through it produces ice cubes in 8 minutes. A few on Amazon starting around £50.

@JewelleryCat is it a smart tv? If yes you can use your mobile phone as a hotspot to stabilise the signal.

CoffeeBeansGalore · 25/06/2026 15:31

@MewithME Glad it's helping even just a bit. If room in fridge put a couple of jugs/bottles of water to chill for a few hours (or overnight) & then put in machine.

TodayIsatrickyone · 25/06/2026 15:49

Does anyone else get dizziness with ME? I’ve often felt woozy with a crash but not the room spinning dizziness I’ve experienced a few times this year. Seeing cardiologist finally next week after investigations from when it initially happened in Feb so will see what they say but with overlapping conditions, it’s hard to tell what’s causing what! Though pretty sure the heat contributed yesterday.

JewelleryCat · 25/06/2026 16:49

@CoffeeBeansGalore I don’t think it’s a smart tv and I wouldn’t know how to hotspot anyway. Mid 30s and no idea lol

@TodayIsatrickyone luckily the picture is back so let’s hope it stays that way! Freeview website says high pressure is affecting parts of the uk because of the weather

TodayIsatrickyone · 25/06/2026 16:59

Yay 🥳 Good news @JewelleryCat I thought of you this morning when the ocado van came to our neighbours and I found myself checking which fruit it was! 😂 Plum btw which I always get too 🙄

TeaAndStrumpets · 25/06/2026 17:17

@JewelleryCat when we lost our internet over Christmas DD1 tried to explain about hotspots and tethering but I couldn't make our TV work! Sounds like it's just your Freeview, which is annoying but understandable in this weather.

Edited

Not dizzy but very shaky if I overdo things. I also get whooshes of adrenaline and/or tachycardia after stress. Could even just be from an upsetting thought or bad dream. Really annoying to feel out of control of my body, as if I should be able to calm myself down from sheer willpower! But it makes me feel useless, as if I'm allowing myself to get in a state if that makes sense? Wonder where I can get a stiff upper lip 🙁
