Thanks guys

Good news @martha79

TodayIsatrickyone · 23/06/2026 17:47

Lots of luck @martha79

Home, wilting but eating the most delicious cherries! 🍒

I just want it to be cooler weather but I don’t think that’s going to happen until next week. Is anyone here in the red heat warning the news keeps warning about?

About 5 miles away is ...seems a weird wobbly blob for the red zone. It flipping feels like a red warning. School is closing early.

I've actually managed work ok today. Well, actually I have declined two meetings for the good of my mental health and written a strong email or two. 😂

That sounds positive @martha79 🤞🏻

@ValleyClouds that's bad. Do you think you should say something? I would hate that.

@MewithME the first time when I was on my own, and he was drawing blood, I was very uncomfortable about the way he positioned my arm, but the last two times I’ve had 2 witnesses and he is over familiar still but not in a way I can really complain about if that makes sense? He cracked a joke that I don’t want to come in for the appointment early because I’m “lying in bed” - it’s not why and I was hostile about it and then he was all “oh its just a joke” and patted/squeezed my shoulder, did it again when he stood up and a third time when we successfully got the blood drawn. Like, why are you touching me at all?

MewithME · 23/06/2026 20:54

God that's infuriating. It's so hard to complain isn't it especially when resourcing is what it is. You must just make sure you're not on your own.

Morning all!

27.5 ° in our bedroom which thankfully is downstairs. It's going to be 31° later.

DH and two friends are going off early to buy some very heavy things from a town 30 miles away but aren't bothered about the heat! Nice van with aircon otherwise it would be a nightmare expedition 🤔

martha79 · 24/06/2026 07:35

Morning, bleurgh that was a rough night. Managed to get my temperature down a bit with lots of ice packs wrapped in pillowcases in the bed, but the cats kept insisting on coming in and climbing on me as normal - so it was hot, fluffy and (because I only had a sheet over me) quite spiky with claws.

I would like to be in a van with aircon... instead I'm sitting downstairs in my house trying to get through work again. At least I don't have to go outside today.

@ValleyClouds if you feel up to it, I personally would say something about the man at the clinic - it seems likely it could be a pattern of behaviour, and nobody should be having to put up with that, it's completely unprofessional.

MewithME · 24/06/2026 07:55

Morning @TeaAndStrumpets An expedition in the car sounds quite nice with Aircon going!

DS finishes at lunchtime today and as he usually sees his Dad...he's doing pickup and lunch which makes it easier. Was going to be very tricky picking him up and making him lunch right before a meeting.

Slept ok but woke with the light so only dozed from about 5am. A neighbour a couple streets away has decided it's ok to park his artic lorry cab on his drive. I think the sound of him idling woke me up. It's crazy. Second one ive seen round here doing that. Anything goes these days doesn't it?

Hope you are all fairing ok.

Oh yes and I seem to have developed a new condition! Isn't that exciting? 🙈 I now get a pin prick rash of little red dots on my legs whenever I walk anywhere in hot temperatures. How very attractive!

Our bodies do like to treat us to new things @MewithME - I'm currently outraged as I've had a shower and discovered that my bra has caused chafing during my short outing yesterday. I used to get a bit from e.g. sports bras out running in the summer, but not from an hour's outing in which I walked for maybe 15 minutes, so that's a new joy thanks to the illness weight gain 🙄

Dozymoo42 · 24/06/2026 11:20

Gosh you’ve all been busy trying to work my way through 155 posts 🫣

sorry for being MIA been having an off week or so and not really felt like doing much, on the plus side work have been great about phased return/adaptions so I will be getting back at it soon !

Hope everyone is coping in this heat ☀️

ValleyClouds · 24/06/2026 11:45

I’m not even wearing a bra today. Fuck that for a laugh.

Tiredandwired2 · 24/06/2026 11:46

Morning all, Terrible nights sleep. Dog was up panting at 3am so came downstairs to so he could cool down then couldn't get back to sleep. Stayed up until 5.30 when I fell asleep on the sofa and then up at 7 to make sure DS was getting ready for college.

The silver lining (If you can call it that) was that at 4am I saw a slug in the living room and managed to track it to its exit. Went straight under the skirting board. Eurghh! I think I need to move house. One step closer to figuring out how to stop them coming in.

On the subjects of houses @martha79 I hope that you get the place. It will be such a relief when you no longer have to think about house viewings.

This just this!!! 👏

martha79 · 24/06/2026 12:05

I'm definitely not wearing a bra today after yesterday's injuries!

Thanks @Tiredandwired2 - I have sent in the house application, so just waiting now.

TodayIsatrickyone · 24/06/2026 12:20

Hello all, hope you’re all coping best you can. I’m just thinking roll on Friday when it drops a tad!

Awful night, up with the dog once as she was too hot and then the bin men woke me at 5:30 but guess they have to start earlier in the heat. Dozed a bit but hospital appointment first thing so had to get up and sit in the horrible waiting room chairs.

The physio was good though and very thorough, definitely still weakness in left arm/ hand and he discovered my fingers do this weird droop thing that might explain why I’m dropping stuff! He did say I’m still within the 12 week post stroke window so further improvement is likely. Anyway more exercises to add to my daily physio stretches and he’ll see me again in a month.

Dippy dog refused a treat early morning which concerned me a bit til I discovered a packet of plain hobnobs on the living room floor with only a couple left in. It was a new packet yesterday and DD wouldn't have eaten the whole lot so I suspect a naughty sausage scoffed til she was full 😃 Little monkey but thank goodness they weren’t chocolate!

TodayIsatrickyone · 24/06/2026 12:22

@Dozymoo42 sorry it’s been an off week but glad work are being supportive. That’s great news. 👏

BendyAndTired · 24/06/2026 13:54

I normally love warm weather but this extreme jump in temperature has made my knees & feet hurt/swell and I’m not doing well with it. I’m looking forward to next week when it’s down to lower/mid 20’s again

danglethedingle · 24/06/2026 15:05

Oh bad sausage @TodayIsatrickyone , thats a lot of hobnobs in a very small stomach!

@martha79 fingers crossed for the flat, I really hope it works out.

My ankles look like I've put my legs on upside down. Currently laying on the floor with my legs on the sofa seat, with cold flannels draped over my feet, in an effort to get them to go down a bit.

At least I can balance the laptop on my tummy, so I'm not completely without entertainment. Lucky I'm fat or I wouldn't be able to see the screen. 😄

Oioiqueen · 24/06/2026 16:33

@danglethedingle you might very well get your storm, met office is warning of thunderstorms tomorrow evening for south West and Central areas.

@ValleyClouds I wonder if you could put an anonymous complaint in via PALS. They might have had others and be able to put a case together.

@MewithME I wonder if the artics are because their company has made allowances for them to not sleep in their cabs during the hot weather perhaps? In my company we've given them bottles of water and suncream but have just left the trampers (over nighters) to get on with it really.

I was so worn out by the heat yesterday that I didn't make it to the end of the football without falling asleep on the sofa. Took myself to bed and was asleep in minutes. Woke up to DS at 5am (not usual for him) but apparently DH said I tried to feel him up in the night. Maybe the heat is making me all exciteable whilst asleep or something. I haven't been interested in months, thank you chemo stunted ovaries. He told me to jog on and get off him, I have no recollection of any of this haha!

I'm worried about tomorrow evening, we are due thunderstorms but I've got to drive 30 miles away in an unfamiliar town for a scan on Friday. Lack of sleep and nerves aren't ideal. Along with having to fast for it, with the heat I'm a bit worried about feeling faint again. The car has great air con and I imagine the building (it's a charity not NHS) will have some also. I've only ever been once before so unsure. The scan room has as they offered me a blanket last time but as it's radioactive sugar I have to sit an hour before the scan waiting for it the tumour to gobble it up and glow.

TeaAndStrumpets · 24/06/2026 17:19

Blimey @Oioiqueen I salute you! You are obviously down but not out😂

Good luck for Friday.

Our sitting room had been 28 all day, just up to 31. Sitting with curtains drawn.

TodayIsatrickyone · 24/06/2026 17:40

We hit 33 earlier upstairs despite curtains drawn. I needed a nap and woke up very uncomfortable. Think lounge is a tad better at 31. Back of the house is cooler at least. Cant wait for it to break!

‘That made me smile about your night time antics @Oioiqueen and DHs reaction 😃
Hope you can manage on Friday. I think when you’ve had an incident of feeling unwell like yours, it’s understandable to feel a bit anxious about it reoccurring but sometimes I find having a ‘what if’ plan in my head. If this happens, I’ll do X. Plus taking water, handheld fan if no AC though sounds like you’ll be fine in the car/ building.

TeaAndStrumpets · 25/06/2026 05:21

Woke at 5.00.

Hot! Forecast 29° today, so a bit better than yesterday. Tomorrow will be 33° though.

😎Stay cool

Me too! Still in bed but I've got a parcel to post and I'm tempted to get up now and do it before it gets hot. Due storms tomorrow but weirdly it doesn't seem to be getting much cooler until Sunday. Was meant to have a friend visiting on Friday but we've postponed as she had a long train trip and they're still advising essential travel only (plus at 33C and thundery we thought neither of us would be in the best state).

🤣 at your nighttime exploits @Oioiqueen. I hope all goes well with the scan and you can keep cool.

We've got an 'away day' at work today - thankfully online because we're trying to save money on travel at the moment anyway, but it's a long time to spend on Zoom 😫
