I just want it to be cooler weather but I don’t think that’s going to happen until next week. Is anyone here in the red heat warning the news keeps warning about?

ValleyClouds · 23/06/2026 09:18

Morning.

Hate sleeping in the heat

Blood test this morning

33° by 3pm, 38° by Friday! Going round drawing all the curtains.

I wasn't sure what to wear this morning so I've got dressed for now. I'm expecting a parcel and want to be decent 😊After lunch it will be a thin cotton nightshirt that flaps about a bit, the coolest garment I own!

Hope you can all stay cool!

TodayIsatrickyone · 23/06/2026 09:44

@JewelleryCat Not In red warning, orange here but sympathy to those who are.

@TeaAndStrumpets blimey that’s hot!! Both DH & I were a like pair of limp lettuces when it hit 30 yesterday afternoon. Supposed to be 28 at 4 PM which now sounds rather reasonable compared to 38 😂 Mind you I have the osteopath then so hoping the room is cool!

Oioiqueen · 23/06/2026 09:58

In the red zone here

Day off from work today so I'm just laying on the bed doing nothing. Well I'm sorting the food shop online and writing some bits in a memory book for the kids but nothing too taxing. Might even sew the badges on the kids blankets that I've been planning to do for ages. Feel a slob but as I've got to do the school run this afternoon I need to be really careful. School is less than half a mile down the road, absolutely no point driving and then having to find somewhere to park. So it'll be a slow walk up but I was sweating after this morning's drop off so this afternoon will be like Satan's breath outside!

Missed the storms yesterday, slightly north of them. We had a little bit of rain which cooled things temporarily.

Hope you are all keeping as cool as can be.

Swanhilde · 23/06/2026 10:02

We are in the red zone! Had a lovely down pour last night so the temp was okay overnight. But it's rising to 34 this evening and then 38 on Thursday 🥵

Been back to the opticians this morning and pleased to report that my retinas are both still fully attached. Back in bed now with a coffee and intending to stay here all day. And the fact my eyes are blurry, thanks to the drops, will help keep me here 😆

Kettle's on ☕

My osteopath has aircon! He says it's a godsend because it has an air filter too and he gets awful hayfever.

JewelleryCat · 23/06/2026 10:09

I think my area will be in orange tomorrow and Thursday, I couldn’t even imagine what it would be like like in the red

I was watching Lorraine and Dr Amir said biologically and scientifically, women do suffer more than men in the heat because we don’t sweat as much and other stuff. Thats why we get swollen ankles in the heat too, something about blood vessels

I imagine it would be a nightmare getting into a car! Have you got a big brolley ie sunshade for picking up time?

The storms didn't reach us (unless we slept through) Lincolnshire.

A gallon of peppermint tea, please!

I drink ( black ) black tea too and find it very refreshing in all seasons. Friends swear by Rooibos (sp?) but I find it disgusting, sadly.

Yes if you think about body hair it is there to dissipate sweat, so you can see it.

A gallon of peppermint tea on its way, @TeaAndStrumpets . And I love red bush tea, don't really drink decaf black tea at all now ☕

Thanks! I never drink decaf black tea but put a small spoon of leaves in a large teapot so very delicate flavoured water really 😁 Shocks visitors how weak it is so I've got some Yorkshire Tea for them!

Tiredandwired2 · 23/06/2026 11:33

Morning all,
Red warning here for tomorrow and Thursday. 34 tomorrow and 38 Thursday. All my blinds are closed and its doing a good job of keeping the heat out. I actually felt cold this morning. Guess that's dysautonomia for you.

Mood returned to normal and energy levels improved. I am convinced its inflammation that causes a intense onset of depression. Its horrible.

@JewelleryCat I did see Dr Amir's video on that but didn't watch it. I think I will have a look at it. I love Dr Amir, I wish he was my GP

JewelleryCat · 23/06/2026 11:41

Did anyone here have those thunderstorms? I’ve seen pictures, it looked very intense

@Tiredandwired2 Dr Amir isn’t bad but I think I prefer Dr Hilary but I thought he was retiring? I also like Dr Nighat on This Morning and Dr Zoe

ValleyClouds · 23/06/2026 12:34

So…..

I have to regularly go to this clinic for blood tests, I’ve been on a break because the GP has been doing it but the consultant wants their team doing it so I’ve gone back to the clinic after a long break and there’s been a personnel change…

At the last two clinics it’s been a man and woman but I’ve brought my DM both times because the first time I went it was this man on his own and he made me very uncomfortable with how he behaved towards me, nothing too major but ick. He’s very much one for cracking jokes as well

Today he kept rubbing my shoulders for no reason and even my DM saw it and afterwards even said Yeah don’t go alone with him

He hasn’t actually done anything but given me the creeps so I can’t really report him but bleurgh

Oioiqueen · 23/06/2026 13:42

@TeaAndStrumpets no I don't have a big brolly, does it actually really make a difference? I've got a cap, a cooling towel which I'll wet as I go out and factor 50. I guess I can't really do more than that.

@JewelleryCat I saw a few too and the green tinge really made them look U.S like and apocalyptic

TeaAndStrumpets · 23/06/2026 14:29

@ValleyClouds I would find that really uncomfortable.

@Oioiqueen you sound well prepared!

martha79 · 23/06/2026 14:48

Hmm that sounds very uncomfortable @ValleyClouds - I'd be tempted to say something about the shoulder rubbing, there's no need to be doing that to anyone.

Had a call about a house viewing this afternoon so I'm bracing myself to go out. I've got a hat and sunglasses, ice packs in my bag and a wet cooling towel which can go round my neck. Will taxi there and back and very much hope it's air conditioned.

CoffeeBeansGalore · 23/06/2026 14:55

@ValleyClouds I wouldn't like that at all. There should still be an element of personal space and he is very much invading that.

danglethedingle · 23/06/2026 15:27

We are in the red warning area for all this week. There was a humdinger of a storm in Bath to the south of us, which was supposed to to hit us as well, but it veered across and went straight to the Cotswolds. Can't say I blame it really, but I was looking forward to some thunding and lightner as DD used to call it.

I put a couple of those frozen blocks you put in cool boxes in the bed last night, absolute bliss.

TodayIsatrickyone · 23/06/2026 17:02

hope the viewing goes well @martha79

That sounds rather uncomfortable for you @ValleyClouds

Thunding and lightener makes me smile @danglethedingle funny how certain mispronunciations stick! I still sometimes refer to tomatoes as bomatoes but just get an eye roll from DD.

On way home from osteopath and muscles feeling better. We needed something from Waitrose so DH has parked in the shade and I’m in the car with the engine running so the air con doesn’t stop 😁 hope he’s quick but actually it’s much cooler than our house so quite pleasant!

martha79 · 23/06/2026 17:07

The flat was nice (and cool inside!) - just awaiting them sending me the application forms. Did not enjoy the journey there and back - taxis with the windows open so was just getting a hot breeze. And I had to wait ages for one on the way back, started to feel quite faint and panicky. But made it, have had my third quick shower of the day and am on the sofa for the evening (possibly also for the night if it's too warm upstairs).

@martha79 fingers crossed!
