Too bone idle to do it when in control of the Government, too critical when in opposition.

DuncinToffee · 15/06/2026 11:11

It looks like Reform is holding another press conference without Farage

£5m 🎶

So a no pressing conference?

Notonthestairs · 15/06/2026 11:16

I think the £5 million was Farage's price for coming off the US speech circuit* for X years. Plus a guarantee that he'd propose lowering tax/deregulation on crapto transactions.

(*obviously he still fits in what he can for $ around not voting in Parliament).

I think there is quite a bit of internal conflict for right wing voters - do they want to suggest its a wrong move by the government given Badenoch's support. Or do they want to pretend its indicates authoritarian over step.

The same people that months ago argued in favour of the Australian ban are now struggling to support this one.
Quite amusing.

I suspect the presumed that nothing would happen (which is a fair call) and so they could gladhand from afar.

The reverse of their abhorrence at "foreign intervention". Which, like someones nationality, has to be the "right sort" of foreign interference.

Really team Trump are missing a massive grift here. They should call up ReFormStore and say that unless they are paid a bigly sum, they will start saying Starmer is a great guy. He's always been a great guy.

Two men have been found guilty over arson attack on Starmer's house

https://bsky.app/profile/joshspero.ft.com/post/3mod7ht73ls27

FT investigation has found that a Russian online sabotage network was behind a series of arson attacks on Sir Keir Starmer’s family home and other targets linked to the UK prime minister.

PickAChew · 15/06/2026 13:12

Oh, that could be awkward for some with Russian ties.

TemperanceWest · 15/06/2026 13:51

Also awkward for the "Ukranian rent boys" gobshites. Although they will just be screaming "cover up!"

That's another trend that felt like it was purely astroturfed on line. It's not like anti immigrant stuff which I might not like but it feels reflective of existing cracks in the UK. The Ukrainian rent boy, Keir Starmer narrative kept popping up in you tube comments or X threads appropos of nothing but was anyone actually in the UK seriously imagine Keir Starker could even be that interesting? It's such an odd juxtaposition to try to run with I don't think it ever really stuck except bots talking to bots.

I see fake news about the social media ban is being spread by Mumsnetters🙄. The are claiming Bluesky is not included because it is "for lefties".

GBeebies is going with it as well

Quite a few anti- Labour posters on MN believed it. There are a couple of them in particular who are absolutely obsessed with the theory that Starmer is in the closet.

Good typo!

The government minister who came on GB news didn’t answer the direct question about Bluesky. Some waffle about tightening up criteria in the future.

Bluesky isn't banned for minors in Australia because the company itself has introduced restrictions for minors. If X and others did this, governments wouldn't need to legislate.

That might explain why the government can't give an answer yet. If Bluesky voluntarily introduce more (there are already some) age-related restrictions that meet government requirements there will be no need to ban it.

But it might be best to ban it anyway to shut the conspiracy theorists up.

As of 10 December 2025, Bluesky will introduce age assurance checks for users in Australia. This is in response to the Australian Government's social media age restrictions.

New users will be asked to complete an age check through Kids Web Services (KWS)External link.

Australian users under 16 will not be able to create a new Bluesky account. Australian users aged 16 and 17 will still be able to use Bluesky, but adult content will be inaccessible, and features like direct messaging will be disabled. Australian users aged 18 and over will have full access to Bluesky.

Very interesting article.

Notable that they were able establish the link between the guilty men and the pro Kremlin group (I say pro Kremlin, maybe that should just be Kremlin - the article certainly hints that it could be state sponsored albeit from whatever they consider a safe distance.)

The same group paid for men to paint anti Islamic graffiti on mosques. No doubt they are doing similar to synagogues. All in the name of creating social tension.

The use of X by the group to recruit people.

They started up a UK online group to distribute far right videos and AI videos for sharing.

Use of crapto for payment.

There were plenty of posters on MN willing to circulate the lies - and just as many willing to repost them to promote them further.

PickAChew · 15/06/2026 14:49

Mine started on Twitter before he was 16 but left before it became X. He mostly seems to be on discord and in game chats, these days.

Millions of under 16s use X, according to research. About 2% of all users. So perhaps half a million in the UK if my maffs is correct?

You need to be careful enumerating X "users".

The fake account I setup in 2010 is still active. (See also Facebook and LinkedIn)

DuncinToffee · 15/06/2026 15:09

Badenoch is in full supportt of he ban, Farage is scaremongering about digital ID.

Which one is echoed on MN?
