This is shocking. Also, notable that the anti-HMO rhetoric mentioned is something expressed regularly on MN.

The monitoring group repeatedly warned that language used in relation to HMOs by anti-immigration and far-right people was becoming increasingly hostile and racially charged, with posts portraying asylum seekers and refugees as a threat, and encouraging opposition to properties believed to house them.

Kenyon kept mentioning HMOs in the very few interviews he did and also blurring them with the housing alofnasylum seekers. My assumption at the time was that Maker field as a very small number of asylum seekers houses there but a large number of HMOs. Most of them aren't going to be housing refugees but I guess if he can blur Reforms national policy of being anti-immigration with local resentment at houses being turned into HMOs then it's a strategy. But it's concerning it's a widespread thing...
HMOs are often resented by homeowners but it's not the fault of the people living there. It's a feature partly of how expensive housing is and also buy to let landlords extracting as much money as possible. The mission creep is interesting. First it's public anger at asylum seekers/then any foreigners/then any young men in HMOs/homeless shelters etc. Kenyon made it sound like HMOs in general contained scary people not just refugee housing.
