Yes, almost certainly. I think he might handle it better. But time will tell.

Really? I think Starmer handles it well - just ignores it - where Burnham is more hot headed. I suppose some might prefer that approach.

There is a world in which "easy ride" means actually getting shit done.

The Tories had an easy ride for 14 years and didn't get anything done except the done dud that was Brexit.

The Etonian class Tories left the 'easy ride' to Labour because they despise hard workers but need them to clean up their shit - caveat I may have been spending too much time on people who complain about cleaners.

Piggywaspushed · 20/06/2026 11:47

When he was criticised over Hillsborough he was neither hot headed nor did he ignore it, though. He listened, he responded and he brought about change.

Oh quite. It's (as usual) a foursquare.

Competent/easy ride
incompetent/easy ride (tory default)
competent/hard ride (non tory default)
incompetent/hard ride

That’s reassuring. In fairness, he delivered a calm campaign for this seat too. Maybe I’m remembering young Burnham and he’s learned things.

Ugh. There is a current thread running about the horrible zoo incident. The ableism is off the scale and really disgusting. Time for a MN break, I think!

Notonthestairs · 20/06/2026 13:48

There are a lot of people on MN of the hang 'em high lynch mob mentality.
Punishment first, ask questions later.
"I don't know any of the facts of this case but my views are still worth typing out".

Same people were happy enough to vote Tory whilst those governments did fuck all about the justice system. Lets not forget that the last GE was called only because the prison service was at emergency levels and days away from them not being able to accept more prisoners. And that mattered not one jot.

Fun fact.

The 4" ramp inside a local Costa (built in 2011) was intended solely to allow staff to move pallets from the entrance to the back, as there was no loading bay. It's marked as such on the architects plans. As such it can't be used for wheelchairs.

Obviously that got sorted. But I won a bet when I was told that could not be the case in 2011.

I wonder if the fashion for the right wing has palled - like all fashions - and a backlash is gently ticking over ?

I mean prog gave way to punk. And facism is like the flares of the 2020s.

I love this uplifting article.

Though I'm guessing that if he was in receipt of PIP, there'll be those who will question it.

Well as long as it wasn't paid while he was out of the country on a jolly.

placemats · 20/06/2026 15:42

Obviously he was out of the country. And it must have been very jolly for him.

Four people in hospital after knife attacks in Edinburgh. An arrest made.

BBC report say man shouted about "protecting the country". Sone signs the attacks near a mosque at petrol station & pizzeria may have had anti-Muslim or anti-migrant/minority motives (tbc)

Just saw a headline on sky news inferring TUs are "telling ABs team" not to even think about making Ed Milliband Chancellor 🤷‍♀️
Am I missing something probably?
The TUs made EM leader of the party! Arguably if they hadn't, and DM was made leader, labour could have won the GE in 2010...😡

Raven08 · 20/06/2026 16:36

AB isn't PM yet...

TemperanceWest · 20/06/2026 16:38

@DuncinToffee how awful, but I think it was inevitable. People are now emboldened to act out their hate against anyone they deem "different". I was just reading about an arson attack on caravan dwellers in Glastonbury.

PickAChew · 20/06/2026 16:42

That is a very angry man.

Notonthestairs · 20/06/2026 16:42

There will be a million rumours circulating at the moment. I think it’s a waste of time to try and interpret them.
