Sigh.
I've voted Labour all my life.
I'm the daughter of an immigrant.
My parents left school at 14 and 15 respectively.
We had no indoor toilet until I was 12 and I often went hungry.
Please don't patronise me.
I know more about poverty and lack of opportunity than most on MN, and a damn sight more than AB.
I'm not sure I'll vote again...
It all feels so very pointless when ambitious MPs (or not, as the case may be!) decide they and only they are the Messiah who can lead us all to the sunlit uplands.
I'm tired of it.
I hope I'm wrong. I hope AB can turn things around, but it just seems like more of the same political posturing the UK has endured since 2019.
I suppose I just thought labour were better than that.

DuncinToffee · 19/06/2026 13:42

I think we all thought Labour would be better than this.

I am unsure about AB, I like him but I don't like how he has moved against KS but I can see him fitting in on national and international stage just fine.

I was once told by a very posh lady that she "couldn't understand a word" I said.
🤷‍♀️
I suspect she could. I suspect she just didn't like an upstart wc girl correcting her on points of law 😬
It's amazing how many people assume you work in a blue collar job when you speak like I do 🤷‍♀️

That seems like a fair and measured position which I can largely agree with

That’s how I feel tbh. I don’t like how it’s come to this, but if AB can turn things around for Labour, and keep Reform at bay, then he’ll have my vote.

WFC (and reversal) - total horlicks

Matching right wing immigration rhetoric - not only makes you look weak but allowed the right to move further right in response. Meaning what you gonna do now ? Move further right. Again.

Allowing the media to set and control the narrative.

Allowing Tory failures like HS2 to perpetuate into eternity.

And starting off a load of massively contentious pieces of legislation all off which are guaranteed to fail (OSA, digital ID, social media ban).

Anymore for anymore ? (Keen non-dim people will spot something about my list. )

Llttledrummergirls · 19/06/2026 14:14

Assisted suicide. They were told that one would fail before it started and they still won't let it drop.

Maybe a change is needed, just n9t either of the two men.
Perhaps we need a woman.

I thought Labour were better than Keir Starmer.

I am definitely not patronising you. I was pondering some research about what south centred MN and society would feel in response to the 'King of the North'. A lot of Rayner stuff is bout class and gender but much of it is her Northern speaking voice. Many comments on that right here on MN.

Piggywaspushed · 19/06/2026 14:23

I think you do have him wrong. He is better on poverty then Keir Starmer.

🚨 NEW: A Tory source predicts Nigel Farage will soon quit as Reform leader over the Makerfield by-election

"We are watching the slow puncture of the Reform balloon. They had a 10 point lead over Labour in the polls and won every seat in Makerfield at the locals but, as they have at the last three by-elections, Reform have lost yet again. Farage is ducking press conferences to avoid answering questions about his £5m crypto bung. Yusuf is too chicken to stand as a candidate.

"It’s now surely only a matter of time before tired Nigel picks up his ball and goes home, leaving a bunch of hopeless nobodies to squabble over the remains of a turquoise travesty"

Is the source Badenoch? It sounds a bit like the sort of thing she would say.

In his last few days, Hitler totally and utterly felt the German people deserved everything they received at the hands of the allies as a punishment for not supporting him more.

I wonder if Farage will abandon the UK to the tender mercies of Labour in a similar strop ? Maybe the great English* population simply don't deserve him.

*British ? Surely no one is that stupid now ?

Hilarious that they wouldn't put their name to the quote.

Farage is plainly hoping to wait out the £5 million question.

A good run down of what this means moving forwards and some reflections on what happened

I remember him last time he was in government. He doesn’t inspire confidence is the best I can say. He’s been a good mayor and I like his voice/accent but he’s a very average politician at national level.

He'd want to be onto the next incarnation of the Nige party before the next GE.

Probably
I think his preference would have been to go to the US to be with the big hitters/make his fortune there as some sort of talking head/rabble rouser. Unfortunately all of his efforts to ingratiate himself into the Mar a Lago set haven't gone as planned. He secured the odd audience but was left watching the inauguration from a hotel room. And now there's new faces/competition for the American rich to throw their money at in the form of Lowe etc. His star has started to fade since Brexit so now he's stuck on this tiny island. Poor man.
I suspect a retirement, a relaunch and then get hailed as a breath of fresh air in UK politics for people with the memory of a goldfish (mostly the media TBF).

SerendipityJane · 19/06/2026 15:42

Him and the Tory party 😀

Now this is how you treat TRump

https://www.bbc.co.uk/news/articles/c20y1ygn707o

Meloni is absolutely right to push back on Trump's BS.
Bet her approval ratings go up.
