10 years since Jo Cox was murdered.

I remember it so well. I was working in Whitehall at the time. Everyone was stunned.

A SMR report has found that anti-Burnham fake news on Makerfield Facebook accounts has surged.

Nearly 1 in 6 pieces of news shared in local Facebook groups during the campaign is false, with misinformation heavily targeting Labour and its candidate Andy Burnham, a new study has found.

It is looking very tight in Makerfield.

I expect we will have visitors on Friday regardless of who wins.

Or, now I come to ponder, Mumsnet ?

I'd accept the Government banning social media for over 60s.
I waste far too much time on MN 😁.

It's a win win situation for them.

I think they will have enough other threads to post on.

Are there any threads on the Russian attack on Starmer going?

Yes there's a short one in AIBU - not really going the OPs way so has disappeared

Yes, at least one pushing the expected narrative. But not getting much joy, thankfully!

placemats · 16/06/2026 09:57

Yes to the final question with links to the Guardian, BBC and FT - share. Aibu.

I wouldn’t. I’d have to do some housework.

DuncinToffee · 16/06/2026 10:33

I found the threads, thanks.

Something to do whilst waiting for a delivery.

Yes, social media for the over 16s should be looked at!

Why cant we classify social media platforms as publishers and make them responsible for what they publish?

There are several about the Russian involvement and how you can't trust anything the BBC says. Lots of w3w usernames in them.

Meanwhile, I asked AI to summarise Farages recent output.

Here's what it came up with :

Incidentally, I see USENET didn't make it onto the governments idea of social media.

Says a lot, really.

Jimmy Saville abused many children but in his defence he was white! And therefore not that bad really....

I think the subtext is that Reform are angry that people are coming over here and taking jobs away from decent British paedophiles, abusers and criminals.

PickAChew · 16/06/2026 12:46

A proper British paedophile with proper British paedophile values 🤮

We should be putting statues of these heroes up everywhere. After all, Farage has five million to splash around.

Five million - one per MP in 2024

And today, Badenoch chooses to refer Philipson as a Gestapo officer

They also argued that abolishing marriage value breached their rights to the “peaceful enjoyment of property” under the European convention on human rights, though the case was dismissed by the high court."

‘The developers got greedy’: the women who took on the leasehold scandal – and won

Katie Kendrick, Cath Williams and Jo Darbyshire were subject to tens of thousands of pounds of hidden costs as their new-build freeholds soared in value, making their homes unsellable. Their campaign could finally end the ‘feudal’ system in England and...

As someone who was never able to find the "rateable" value of our property to be able to create my own market offer for our lease, this rings so true.

The Gestapo played a key part in the Holocaust.

They operated outside of the law and were able to detain Jewish/disabled/Roma at will and send them to concentration camps.

Crimes against humanity.

Exactly the same as charging VAT.

Bloody hell, Badenoch must be a bit desperate for attention.
Telemail/KGB new will lap it up though.
Any excuse to get the Gestapo uniforms out.
