They have carried on building like that WITH the knowledge of summers getting hotter so death from heat stroke in one of these places surely = manslaughter

I agree with you, but not holding my breath for prosecutions. Close on 10 years after Grenfell, a foreseeable problem if ever I saw one, who is in the dock? When is anyone (and they knew full well that the software was faulty) ever going to be prosecuted over the Post Office debacle?

I actually think the fact that nine years on no one has been charged has shown the building and housing sector that they really can get away with anything so i dont think cooling initiatives will be used in homes anytime soon. The fact that there is no accountability in this country is frightening and our Governments have the nerve to point the finger at what other countries are doing

MoonlightMemories · 27/06/2026 01:25

Its gotten cooler by a measly 1 degree since I last posted. This really is just so awful...I actually don't think there are enough adjectives to describe this so unrelenting heat and humidity. I swear, it's like I can feel the inside of my building just radiating the heat back at me,.like a storage heater does overnight. And now my tummy is playing up again so I can't see me getting much sleep tonight...yet again 😥

EmeraldRoulette · 27/06/2026 01:42

@MoonlightMemories is your place built with thermal bricks? Mine is. So it literally is reflecting the heat back at us. That's why we feel like we are being cooked.

Cold wet flannel on your forehead might help a bit Flowers

Barely slept at all last night, felt utterly awful and sick with the heat. I’m going to spend the next couple of hours doing some housework then nothing for the rest of the day as it has barely cooled down, another day in the 30s is on the cards. Thankfully my kids are old enough so that I can do that. I feel so sorry for those caring for young kids or vulnerable/older adults that have to run around in this heat.

I don't know how you teachers do it. DH teaches from home upstairs and he felt himself go dizzy from the heat so went downstairs and put all the fans on in a dark room. It was 32 degrees upstairs. Definitely hotter than yesterday.
And what's with all the humidity this time? My DF was in the RAF in North Africa and the temperature was well above 100 degrees Fahrenheit and he said it was nothing as bad as this simply due to the humidity we're getting.

When I say teaching classes I mean fitness classes- but coincidentally my husband is a teacher and whilst some newer rooms at the school are air conditioned, the old parts are horrendous. However, my teaching is even more active and how it goes heat wise depends where I’m teaching at the various venues. Some places are air conditioned some not and as for poolside aqua teaching , it’s what made me shakey yesterday.

Much nicer here in Cheshire this morning. Have had the dogs out for the first time in 2 days and got every window flung wide open to get a bit of waft through the house, as that's still like a fireball. Bring on tomorrow and 13° overnight 🙌

Gettingbysomehow · 27/06/2026 10:05

Im laughing at the light, bright and airy brigade now with massive bifolds and huge panes of glass everywhere a la Grand Designs. Ive always been a fan of small windows. If you want light, bright and airy then go outside, not to mention massive windows show up every speck of dust and dirt.
My house is lovely and cool downstairs. I have small windows none of which face the midday sun.

Delatron · 27/06/2026 10:35

I have to admit I am regretting my huge sky lantern and sliding glass doors in my kitchen now. And even the wooden floor. Tiles would be cooler - especially for the dog to lay on.

I’m obsessed with light though and struggle with dark kitchens as I spend a lot of my time in the kitchen.

We are moving house and this has really made me think about what to do with the next kitchen renovation. May need to keep it darker and cooler.

Delatron · 27/06/2026 10:35

Also panicking looking at the 10 day forecast- is there another warm up coming? Hope not.

ScaredButUnavoidable · 27/06/2026 10:51

In the Midlands and it’s much cooler here. It’s 26 degrees, a light breeze and it’s overcast. I’m actually sitting in my living room without the need to have three fans blasting at me and I’m even able to enjoy a cup of tea!

I've absolutely not idea what ikind of bricks t's made from, but that is truly what it feels like, yes.

I just checked the forecast for where I am and it's saying 27-29 degrees from next Sunday onwards....I don't think I can do this again soon 😭

narcASD · 27/06/2026 11:08

@MoonlightMemories I was checking the weather too and saw next Sunday predicted 30 again 😩 hopefully won't be as humid, this week has been awful, at least by next weekend we should have our air con unit and the pool we've ordered set up

MoonlightMemories · 27/06/2026 11:56

I think I'm going to have to look at Aircon units in the next week....I can't keep having nights of none existent to very broken sleep like this or it will be a) not safe and b) I think I may actually go mad/delerious from it- not really great things to be when I work full-time and do shift work at that.

Rather helpfully of the warm weather (presumably due to vastly increased blood flow and also poor sleep probably isn't helping either) I've got various old injuries in my ankles and shoulder that haven't flared up for ages, but which are now all causing me a hell of a lot of pain, just at rest. Especially the shoulder....it's a partial rotator cuff tear I think and it currently feels like someone is trying to gnaw through it 😔.

Delatron · 27/06/2026 11:59

I am frantically ordering a big blackout sheet for my sky light. May look at getting another air con unit and more fans.

I’m so worried as my parents are coming to look after my dog in mid July when we go away abroad, they are in their 70s. I do have a dog walker coming every day but they won’t be able to do anything if it’s this hot again. And I would spend the whole holiday worrying- probably need to not go. I’ll be so upset - instead of being on holiday by a pool I’ll be in a dark room with my dog!

EmeraldRoulette · 27/06/2026 12:26

What website are people looking at that they've got 30° for the next Sunday so not tomorrow but the one after

I'm seeing 25 on AccuWeather, which was the website that I found predicted this situation the best. It was predicting those temperatures a good few days before it actually got talked about, and that gave me the chance to go away. I don't think I would've found any hotel accommodation otherwise. I had earmarked that particular week anyway because I don't like going in school summer holidays and I had to fit it round various work commitments. So to some extent that was just luck, missing part of the heat wave

MoonlightMemories · 27/06/2026 12:54

I've been using the BBC weather app...it seems to have been fairly accurate with regards to temperature,. humidity etc in comparison with my in home thermometers and heating thermostat which reads the current temperature of the room it's in, which for me is the hallway,. which is slightly cooler by a degree but it matches my temperature monitor in there too.

JenniferBooth · 27/06/2026 13:55

A woman phoned into this debate and revealed that Camden Council have replaced the windows in her tower block with larger ones like a glass wall. Shes on the 12th floor. the tenants protested but CC insisted they had to have it done The same council that is insisting households take out their air con is fitting stuff to make ppl fry in their homes..

Treylime · 27/06/2026 15:22

I'm thinking of buying a portable air con unit when they come back into stock. Reviews are mixed on the ones I've looked at. Any advice on what to look for?

sunnydisaster · 27/06/2026 15:41

I’m so glad it’s ending today. I had a glare of a medical issue yes which is def exacerbated by heat - hadn’t had one for 3 years - just he build up of heat over the week, house being like an oven etc.
Weve got bifold doors and our blinds are white which lets the heat/sun in. I think you can get slatted ones that just fit the window, but they’re ££££.

Zov · 27/06/2026 15:56

It's not really ending today - it's better than it has been for the past week (32-35 degrees C most days, and now it's 27C where I am - North Midlands,) but it's still hot and quite humid. Also, although we're going to have a bit of a break over the next few days, the hotter weather (30C plus) is going to come back. It's still only June, no WAY is it not going to get really hot again.

Zov · 27/06/2026 15:58

Like a pp, I also struggled to sleep last night. Temperature was 23C overnight, and humidity was 95%.
