Where I am, it's going to be hot tomorrow here too! Still predicted to be 29C.

On Tuesday this week Alexa - and also my weather app- predicted the drop in temperature by Thursday. (Yesterday.) They said it would be 24C, then 22C by Friday (today) and 20C by Saturday.

Yet it was 33-34C yesterday, (Thursday,) and not 24C! And it's due to go up to 33C today. (Not 22C as predicted a few days ago.) And as I say, tomorrow is due to be 29C. It will probably be 31-32C though, as it has been 2-3C higher than predicted. Every time.

It's lasting longer than predicted - (North Midlands I am.)

I LOVE the summer and hot weather, but not THIS! The humidity is a KILLER.

It looks as though you in the North Midlands are now getting the heat that crossed us on Wednesday and Thursday.

The cloud of heat seems to be travelling north-eastwards.

Looks like it will have gone past you too by Sunday evening.

It is the extreme humidity making it 10X worse for sure.
I spilt some water filling up the cats bowl 2 days ago and the small puddle is still there!
The salt has gone all clumpy.
The towels from showering just stay damp.

It's so strange.

That gives me the absolute rage too. To the point I’ve contacted various media outlets by email asking for more balanced, neutral and factual reporting. When you already feel like giving up and not going anywhere for fear of heat stroke it just adds insult to injury.

Well done! I bloody hope they read and act on your emails.

the80sweregreat · 26/06/2026 13:46

I’m in Essex too.
Went for a short walk up to my local shop ( who is doing a roaring trade ) and that was enough for me. It’s brutal weather today and won’t cool down for ages.

the80sweregreat · 26/06/2026 13:48

I’ve read that people are hiring air con units, but it’s not cheap and you need an accessible window for the extractor hose. I guess it may be a solution for some people if you can find somewhere that has some.

Another Essex girl here. Its hell in my flat. One thing i did forget to mention (and i dont know why because ive mentioned it in previous years) is the cladding on the outside of my flat Its black yes BLACK cladding Purely for the fucking aesthetic as some flats have it and some dont. In a fucking pattern

the80sweregreat · 26/06/2026 13:57

DS 2 bought a first floor flat this year and it’s always hot for him so can sympathize! it is crazy weather.
love how supportive we are here , but even my friends who like it hot are complaining a bit now.
I have gone abroad on holiday , but it’s different isn’t it.
You have air con and pools and shade and buildings built to block out the sun. (I know holidays are different to working in it though etc. )

I've got one

I would actually say, do get one

It's not reducing the temperature that much, but it's improving the air quality. I was away, walked into the flat yesterday and started coughing within about 10 minutes.

Then I put that on. It helps. You do have to sit right next to it.

Then later, I switch it off and go outside because by the time the Sun hits the flat, it isn't worth running it because it's competing with too much heat if that makes sense

In a new build, it's in use from May to October. I say this as somebody who is permanently wearing four layers in winter. I really feel the cold. But it's more about improving the air quality.

BlackeyedSusan · 26/06/2026 14:01

Fuck it's hot and humid.

It didn't get lower than 30 inside overnight. Hotter upstairs.
32 downstairs. Still hotter upstairs. Left the windows open as the hot air is already in and we might as well get a bit of a draught.

RhosynCymru · 26/06/2026 13:25

I have dim opinions of people who do that. Especially with a petrol mower as that’s adding to an already hot atmosphere, as well as removing precious greenery we need for trying to cool things down!

Absolutely no sympathy for such people if they end up badly sun burnt and/or with heat stroke because of it... completely avoidable!!

the80sweregreat · 26/06/2026 14:01

You can tell that the tv presenters have nice air con on the go!

Projectprincesschaos · 26/06/2026 14:06

Im melting
Im dam angry because I can’t do nothing, but then beating myself up for being such a heat intolerant wimp, but I swear if I went outside in sun I’d be carving off strips of pork crackling within an hour. I’m just sat here watching tv scrolling and MNetting

the80sweregreat · 26/06/2026 14:10

We have recently belonged to a discount place called Mackro and they have a walk in area for the meat and veg and so on and that is positively freezing. It’s bliss to just stand there going a bit cold. The staff wear a fleece. It’s my new favorite place to visit, but the rest of the building isn’t that cold.

the80sweregreat · 26/06/2026 14:13

The problem with static air con is it’ll increase global warming , but I doubt many will worry about that!
Some small positives .. not eating as much , so may lose a pound especially with all the sweating going on at night! lol Washing is drying quickly.

the80sweregreat · 26/06/2026 14:14

I can’t sun bathe , I have fair skin and it just burns.

JenniferBooth · 26/06/2026 14:25

OMG the "put yoghurt on your windows" advice from last year has emerged again. Other countries have air con as standard. We get told to put yoghurt on our windows. The UK is fucked.

the80sweregreat · 26/06/2026 14:28

Surely yoghurt would attract flies and other nasties and also smell ? I’ve heard of a sheet up the window or curtains shut, but not yoghurt.

🤣I mean, it really is completely insane!

Yogurt on the windows 🤦🏻‍♂️

JenniferBooth · 26/06/2026 14:47

Speaking as a social housing tenant i guess its an upgrade from just incinerating us!!!!!!

the80sweregreat · 26/06/2026 14:55

Can you imagine the cost of putting air con in every school or public buildings?
.. Maybe they should have put the renovations money for Buckingham palace towards this instead of upgrading a place nobody wants to live in it seems. 🤔🤔

AllTheTreesOfTheField · 26/06/2026 15:04

YOGHURT on the fucking windows. I was merely frustrated and depressed by the incessant heat a few minutes ago, now I'm FUMMING!!! 🙄

JenniferBooth · 26/06/2026 15:07

Watching Vanessa on channel 5 +1 A schoolgirl was sent home for refusing to wear tights in a heatwave and ended up missing a mock exam. Like i said the UK is fucked.

NAME THE SCHOOL

the80sweregreat · 26/06/2026 15:08

There should be some concessions for such high temperatures.
