Can I join?

I’m fat, peri menopausal and skin the colour of a milk bottle. I live in a sweatbox of a HA flat with excessive insulation (wonderful in the winter though) and no outside space. If I open the windows at the front, I get weed and screaming neighbours. If I open the windows at the back, I get weed and Grime music.

I fucking hate summer. If it wasn’t for the fact that some of these heat fans are fans simply because they’ve got nice big houses that don’t feel like an oven, and outside spaces, I’d be demanding seasonal house swaps with them.

I feel your pain.

Roll on September

Ten weeks til the start of September! Counting down the days…

17c and reasonably pleasant in the garden.

I’ve turned the central heating off today.

Move to a Scotland. Summers don’t exist.

I do wonder if there will be climate migration to a Scotland. I live in the SE and of course we always get the heatwaves first but it does then seem to spread, especially to central England. Scotland - which I know is huge so not everywhere - seems relatively unscathed by global warming

Might be five days of really hot weather over 30 degrees I’ve heard today with an amber warning for Monday and Tuesday. Hell for me, but have to try and get through it somehow. I sometimes hate living in the south east as it can be unbearable.

I agree. Trouble is we have so many ties here and I love going into London!

narcASD · 20/06/2026 14:10

@WilfredsPies sounds like hell, if it's any consolation I was very overweight last summer and also menopausal, also very fair , I lost 4st and started HRT, the difference this summer is unreal.

I still really struggle with heat over 25 though so absolutely dreading next week.

That does sound like a huge improvement and I’m glad it has made a difference for you.

Sadly I can’t have HRT because of some medical stuff and I lack the willpower to stop eating chocolate, so the hot flushes will continue for a while yet 😬 Tuesday and Wednesday is forecast to be horrendous here. Good luck and may all your poles be icy!

PearlsTeapot · 20/06/2026 14:56

I am in hospital in London and my room is unbearable. I have a fan but it's just blowing hot air around the room. Trying to keep my curtains shut for the afternoon, see if that makes a difference. The only way to feel any freshness at all is to have my bedroom door open so the air circulates, but I hate having it open.

ConstantlyFuriosa · 20/06/2026 15:38

I was in hospital for 3 weeks back in ‘22 and it was during that major heatwave with 40 degree days here and there. The windows opened about 3cm - it was ridiculous! Maybe they have a thing where people are hurling themselves to their deaths, but still. Couldn’t work that out.

Hope your time in chokey passes quickly, @PearlsTeapot

PerhapsaSillyQuestion · 20/06/2026 16:32

@PearlsTeapot giving sympathy why are they so hot.
I hope new hospitals are in buikt with air con etc

Surely it's dangerous to have them so hot ?

If its anything like the one I work in then alot of hospital are really, really, old and not designed with AC in mind. Obviously windows barely open so people dont jump out!
It can get like an oven on wards though, deeply unpleasant for everybody!

Im just massively relieved I have work leave next week. Im in the SE so my plan for Mon/Tues is to beach myself at home under a fan with the curtains all drawn.

PinkHollyhocks · 20/06/2026 18:22

I'm really worrying about the heat next week here in Sussex. My son is a gardener and I'm so concerned about it. I doubt his boss will reduce the work or hours.

PerhapsaSillyQuestion · 20/06/2026 20:32

@henlake7 they need to get some germs love warmth and will be breeding and sick people with temps need to be kept cool

It's looking insane next week I've told my DD she can stay at home on the really hot day
I can't imagine poor kids in some of these nurseries and schools.

Whyohwhy321 · 20/06/2026 22:05

Next week is my idea of hell. I'm already boiling and it's another 10 degrees at least starting on Tuesday.

We are just loving it. Glorious here. Just had a pub lunch and we have friends coming over for an evening in the garden.

Another one celebrating the fact our planet is experiencing climate breakdown. Wow.

Agreed.

I’ve just looked at the Met weather app and it’s showing 38 degrees on Wednesday in my area - lower on the BBC app. Wtf?! And it’s still June.,

So if these posters come on here bemoaning the heat and saying how dreadful it is that will instantly reverse climate change will it? Get a grip, people are allowed to celebrate hot weather, it doesn't follow that they aren't concerned about climate change.

You can moan all you like, it will have zero effect on the climate.

Also dreading next week. Let's share as many constructive ideas as possible about how to get through it. Please no comments from people who have air con / a pool etc!

I tried the frozen hot water bottle 2 nights ago and it actually did make a difference, and was still quite cool the next morning. So I think I'll use 2 on rotation all day and all night so I always have something frozen on me at all times!

Crunchymum · Yesterday 09:40

It's the start of a very warm period here today.

I'm prepping as much as I can in terms of food (easy dinners without the oven), making sure we have clean muslins to wet and pop in freezer, ensuring all fans working / charged, lots of icepoles and ice cubes in freezer etc.

36c expected here by Wednesday.

DC2 is going on a 4 night residential tomorrow and she'll be having similar temperatures so we've had to revisit what she is taking. Lots of activities require elbows and knees to be covered (and helmets!!) I've packed her a clip on fan that recharges, a handheld fan and a manual concertina fan. She has a massive water bottle and lots of sunscreen and a hat. Plus loads of shorts and t-shirts for when they aren't doing activities. She's pretty sensible so she knows about keeping hydrated, eating lots of salad and fruit and keeping her sunscreen topped up but I'm still a bit hesitant. Some of the activities are very physical and really aren't suitable in 34/35c. Hopefully the itinerary will be rejigged given the weather?

I WFH but have DC1 parents evening this week so will need to take the Tube and go out in the hottest part of the day.

Roll on Saturday when 28c is predicted. Even that is about 6c too hot for me!!

It isn’t normal Summer at all, it’s extreme. I can’t get my head around how anyone can find this enjoyable.

Each time I look at the forecast the temperatures have risen and there’s no end in sight on the long range forecasts.
For instance, last night when I looked Thursday was showing as 30°, this morning it had changed to 35°, it’s now forecast to be 37°.

the80sweregreat · Yesterday 13:45

Wednesday might be 38 ffs ( where I live )
Beyond depressing.
