A chat thread for those who don't like this Labour government. 💙* *

The problem with socialism is that you eventually run out of other people's money.

He'll probably say that the request to resign never crossed his desk 😂

There's definitely a cartoon strip in that

With the four horsemen of the apocalypse coming out of his office looking absolutely shocked...

EasternStandard · 11/05/2026 21:49

There’s been some cracking cartoons on this thread.

My two faves that I recall are the Olly R under the bus one, and the Johnson wine whoops one.

Times Radio are now reporting that there may be more than 80 MPs against Starmer. They have certified 76 so far.

Reports that Lammy, Mahmood, Cooper and Healey have told Starmer to go. Hermer and Reed apparently telling him to stay!

Not surprised at those two. But the others are surely enough to override.

Nuthatch26 · 11/05/2026 22:08

Great start for Harriet Harman. (Times Diary).

Harriet Harman, former Labour deputy leader and the PM’s adviser on women and girls, made a slip when replying to a farewell message by Arooj Shah, the newly ex-leader of Oldham council. “Hi,” Harman wrote. “Hope all good with you. For next Lords list? H.” The formatting suggests it might have been meant as a private message and the post was eventually deleted. Now, we can’t be sure what Baroness Harman meant. Perhaps she was trying to comfort a defeated councillor by suggesting she join the MCC. Or perhaps Angela Rayner’s call for an end to cronyism has not been heeded.

Arooj Shah is the former leader of Oldham Council, who blocked a rape gang inquiry.

No surprises there with Hermer and Reed.
Hermer is not elected, just one of Starmer's dodgy mates. Reed is....well Reed.
If that's Starmer's defence line up, he's in big trouble.

These threads move too fast! Just catching up on this one now, though at the rate things are going this evening Starmer might be gone before I’ve finished reading!

Hope we get to the magic 81 before I go to bed.

Yes, I'm just hanging on on here. Might need a cup of tea.

boyleslaw · 11/05/2026 22:20

😀😀😀 Big irony here. Wasn’t HH a supporter of the PIE in the 70’s? Also Patricia Hewitt.? Or did I dream it? HH to look after women and girls?

DenizenOfAisleOfShame · 11/05/2026 22:21

I’m not sure what the significance of the 81 is. Isn’t it 81 MPs to back a challenger? But there’s no challenger!

I’m not saying that Starmer’s not done for. He most certainly is.

The stories coming out are incredible. Starmer’s told the cabinet that he’s going nowhere and he’s appointed 6 new PPSs to replace the resignations! The soft left have said that Streeting will be out faster than Truss.

It’s absolutely fucking nuts.

justasking111 · 11/05/2026 22:21

Wonder what happened to you guys. Only just realised you'd moved on.

If Starmer does call an election it will be brutal. There'll be vitriol like you've never seen. Was bad enough in Wales.

My advice don't tell family, friends, colleagues where your sympathies lie. Affect a general disinterest in politics.

81 to trigger a formal leadership contest.

79 now.

Sure. But there’s got to be someone standing for leader. No-one’s standing.

Upstartled · 11/05/2026 22:24

78, sorry

punkhairbrush · 11/05/2026 22:25

Seriously, if we get a change of leadership because of these idiotic back benchers I will lose my shit! The country gets pulled into more chaos - thanks you monumental bellends!

punkhairbrush · 11/05/2026 22:26

There is no challenger and then even if there is a challenger the process seems to long winded that by the time they get through it all, we’ll be at the next GE

SionnachRuadh · 11/05/2026 22:26

Aubrey Allegretti of the Times says No10 announcing PPS appointments to backfill those who have resigned.

'Tis but a scratch! quoth Starmer.

@punkhairbrushwe’re quite keen on this thread 😬 but there’s another more Labour one going

Upstartled · 11/05/2026 22:27

Starmer being jettisoned is the inevitable outcome. May as well be now.

Edited

The soft left threat is on Politics UK X feed.

A pp has given the Times source for the PPS replacements, which I think is also the source for Starmer digging in.

punkhairbrush · 11/05/2026 22:34

@EasternStandardhaha! I gathered! Don’t get me wrong not a fan of Labour but it’s the fucking back benchers that boil my piss more than anything

FatEndoftheWedge · 11/05/2026 22:34

Staemer is meeting apprentices tomorrow !
