A chat thread for those who don't like this Labour government. 💙* *

The problem with socialism is that you eventually run out of other people's money.

@Upstartledhaha, true! I just felt his demeanour was a little less doom and gloom at the beginning.

Did you!?

Where are you seeing this?

Telegraph bit of a c&p splurge

Kate Osborne, the MP for Jarrow, said “for the good of the party he should set out when he will go now and announce a clear timetable for his departure”.

Tony Vaughan, the MP for Folkestone and an ally of Angela Rayner, added: “After the speech, I still believe we need an orderly transition before the next local elections”.

Maryam Eslamdoust, the head of the Transport Salaried Staffs Association (TSSA), said that “either we change leader and direction now and begin rebuilding trust, or we sink with this failing project”.

Sarahconnor1 · 11/05/2026 12:22

I think he has just made his situation worse.

It was a nothingfest.

In a speech to save his political career, he has demonstrated he is devoid of ideas and strategy. His adviser should shoulder some the blame too.

Even Starmer’s reset button needs a reset, says Badenoch

ChardonnaysBeastlyCat · 11/05/2026 12:37

Why won’t they nationalise water?

Thats the next big crisis.

But no…

Very underwhelming.

Dis he mentioned smashing the gangs? Or are they well snd truly smashed by now?

No, we have given up on the unsmashable gangs now and back to finger wagging at those aren't compassionate enough.

I see Starmer’s aping Blair’s verb-free sentences now. It just makes Starmer look all the smaller, being made to copy Blair but without any of the persuasive talent or panache that Blair had. It’s like watching the political version of a very bad Elvis impersonator.

Angela Rayner has demanded that Andy Burnham be allowed to stand as an MP, opening the door to a potential leadership challenge against Sir Keir Starmer by the Manchester mayor.
The Prime Minister’s former deputy said that his decision to block Mr Burnham from running for Parliament earlier this year was a “mistake that the leadership of our party should put right”.
In an address to the Communications Workers Union just hours after Sir Keir delivered his reset speech, Ms Rayner said: “We as a party have to do better than this. And we can only prove we mean our Labour values by putting the common interest ahead of factionalism.
“And we can start by accepting that Andy Burnham should never have been blocked. It was a mistake that the leadership of our party should put right.”

That was dire.

What a load of nothing. And then his answer for youth unemployment - not look at the effect of NMW increases and sick pay from day one, not employers NIC….nope, a scheme where they can go work in the EU, and EU youngsters can come and work here.

He is completely tone deaf.

Regular lurker here popping in to say thank you for helping me stay sane but to also mention youth unemployment. The NWW & NI increases have obviously been a major factor, but add to that the Labour policies that have hit hospitality (my industry) disproportionately means that a huge number of opportunities for young people have been removed. It was completely obvious to anyone in the industry that it would happen. Why are Labour so completely blind to it! It’s hard to believe that they are really that stupid.

SpaceRaccoon · 11/05/2026 13:55

Thanks for the new thread. I'm amazed at how hopeless he is.

Upstartled · 11/05/2026 13:57

51 names calling for Keir to resign. So far.

ChardonnaysBeastlyCat · 11/05/2026 14:00

It’s a big gamble for Burnham.

A big majority at the last election means nothing now.

27TimesAway · 11/05/2026 14:01

I couldn't stand to watch it.

Did he really trot out his family schtick again?

Christ on a bike if so.

I wonder how fast he could move. Say the MP for Bootle resigns in a month. I believe that parliament has to move a writ (no idea what that entails) then Burnham would have to be selected, then get through the NEC. Since the reason given last time for the NEC blocking him - that a mayor has to serve out a term, which ends in 2028 - will still be there, how’s Starmer going to wriggle out of that even if he wants to?

Then you’ve got the election period.

I can’t see Burnham getting in before October. And that’s on a speedy basis and supposes he won’t be blocked and that he’ll win.

Streeting should act now if he really cares about Labour.

I think he'd have to resign as mayor first, then they couldn't use that against him. But it's all a big risk really, as he may not win a by election. And then what?!

I agree that October seems just about viable.

It's all a huge mess.

That would be hilarious. Imagine Burnham resigning as mayor, getting the nod from Bootle Labour, fighting off Starmer and his lackeys on the NEC…and then losing the by-election!

NoWordForFluffy · 11/05/2026 14:33

🤣🤣🤣

I'd pay good money to watch that unfold!

Zack Polanski is facing new questions about whether he underpaid council tax on a London houseboat where he stayed, as scrutiny of the Green Party leader’s background increases. Polanski, who has established the Greens as a serious leftwing threat to Sir Keir Starmer’s Labour, has already apologised for misrepresenting himself as a British Red Cross spokesperson. The tax issue relates to a houseboat in a marina in Hackney, the borough where the Greens took control of the council in last week’s elections. The Times newspaper found evidence that the houseboat was Polanski’s primary residence, citing an advert for the boat, in which his partner wrote: “We are moving to a house and so will sadly be leaving the gorgeous community behind.”

It’s possible but you know who would pick up the left mantle instead - Rayner ;

I think he’s blown it now, the speech was dire and the die is cast.

Excuse me Eastern, but Kier will leave when Kier decides, OK? If that’s in 10 years time, so be it.

He has jolly important work to finish/start - none of which he was ever mandated for, but that’s beside the point.

Remember, it’s all about Kier - not the country, not the party.

Yes, that’s all very much up to Keir.
For now, let me be perfectly clear about this - the British people are not happy with the rate of change. We need to speed it up. We are also doing lots of amazing work that people will really love, but for some reason they don’t seem to have got the message. So we need to communicate better but also - they need to listen.

^^all of the above has been heard in some way or form today. It beggars belief.
