Wes Streeting’s plans to resign as health secretary appear to have been put on pause, as allies claimed that “things are shifting” and that Sir Keir Starmer was coming under new pressure to quit.
Starmer’s allies believe that Streeting’s failure to strike on Thursday morning is down to the fact that the health secretary has not secured the 81 names needed to launch a formal challenge.
But one Streeting supporter said: “Wes has got the numbers but things are shifting.” Streeting’s camp believes that more cabinet ministers would tell the prime minister to quit on Thursday and previously loyal MPs have also turned on Starmer.
