A chat thread for those who don't like this Labour government. 💙* *

The problem with socialism is that you eventually run out of other people's money.

Rayner apparently cleared by HMRC and good to run.

Reports.

What timing. Someone at HMRC fancies higher mortgages. Her policies would do it.,

It stinks, but then nothing with our Ange is ever vanilla.

In any event, it’s a positive in my view - let her try to drag this country to the left - see how that works out for her.

It’s looking a bit Truss-like with the markets, so I guess go whole hog with candidates and see what happens.

Edited

Absolutely.

What the Starmerites fail to mention is that the Truss-period saw gilt yields rapid reversion to norm. This debacle will be long-lasting and leave scar tissue.

MNLurker1345 · Yesterday 07:10

“However, sources said she was not set on being the Left’s candidate.” The Telegraph

But could change if encouraged. Hope not.

FatEndoftheWedge · Yesterday 07:12

And they want UK to invest in UK stocks

Unrivalled · Yesterday 07:13

blimey, Angela 'let's abolish private schools' Rayner..one of the few times I could end up being glad that education in Scotland is a devolved matter...it'll be an interesting day.

FatEndoftheWedge · Yesterday 07:31

"I'm just ange".

" I'm just doing to the right thing ,I fought for mum for my constituents "...

FatEndoftheWedge · Yesterday 07:32

What a sorry line up .
I honestly don't know who I dread more , red ed , I'm just ange or sleezy streeting.

CaveMum · Yesterday 07:35

I’d like to know if our Ang has paid interest on that £40k she owed. She was found to owe the money last September and has only just settled it now?

Even if she’s paid no penalty for failing to pay you can bet if it was you or I who took 8 months to hand the money over we’d be paying interest on it.

MNLurker1345 · Yesterday 07:43

@CaveMum, surely she would have done. She bloody better have done! And it would have been a considerable amount.

I like to see that Kemi now seems to have lost any fear. Her delivery is brilliant. I liked the bit when she looked at Wes Streeting and said something like “you can stop giving me dirty looks”.

Rusholme has a large Asian population. It’s not a given AB would get in there. In my opinion he definitely would have got in in Denton. must be very frustrating for him!

Yes the schadenfeude of the 👑 ⬆️ ‘s frustration is one side benefit of all this.

LupaMoonhowl · Yesterday 07:46

Is a shame has taken Kemi so long to get her momentum going but she is really impressive now. If she still have a coalition with Reform, she could be the next PM after Nige.

I think it’s so tough that it takes time. KS didn’t really get anywhere until partygate helped him out massively and that was more Cummings than him.

Now though Kemi has Labour’s chaos to bounce off, and that is more due to KS - Mandelson plus that speech the other day and the rest of it.

That Lord Ali bloke probably ponied up for her.

He will then claim it as a tax-deductible expense….

EasternStandard · Yesterday 08:06

Just realised it was Rayner who put out the statement not HMRC. She must be keen on being a contender if not firing the starting gun.

Starmer hasn’t achieved anything in his own right. He’s always been a terrible speaker, he’s never even coined a memorable phrase (apart from ones that are memorable because they’re used in ridicule like ‘smash the gangs’), he’s brought no memorable shift in Labour (unlike Blair’s totemic ditching of Clause IV, for example) or stamped his personality on it, and most of all he’s never actually done anything of policy substance.

A strong sign of his policy uselessness and his lawerly caution was in his speech the other day “I can announce that, subject to a public interest test, we will renationalise British Steel” 🙄. He was reading out a memo, not inspiring anyone or setting a clear political direction.

Labour’s win was given to them by the Tories. Neither Starmer nor anyone else in Labour earned it.

And Rayner won’t win any leadership contest. Labour MPs have admitted to themselves that she’s too dim and a liability. ‘Characters’ in parties are much loved until their job matters, then they get dumped.

Nuthatch26 · Yesterday 08:23

Good morning 😁

What a happy coincidence for Angela, that today of all days her tax affairs are all sorted. Are we supposed to believe that?

I watched a bit of Sky news late last night. John Craig said that he had been advised by the Security Committee that the next dump of Mandelson files will be released next week. Adam Boulton was on the same panel. He said that he's been told by a member of the same committee that this next batch will be "unsurvivable" for Starmer.

For some reason, I keep picturing the human ring-binder revving himself up this morning - looking in the bathroom mirror, in his y-fronts.

’You’re a tiger’ - replete with roaring etc.

I can’t shake the image…

Interesting about the Mandelson files.

Don't forget we've still got the court case to run. One of the models (cough). said that the Russians had paid him to set afire the house/car.

Hallowedturf · Yesterday 08:35

Rachel Reeves has warned Sir Keir Starmer’s rivals that a leadership challenge risks “plunging the country into chaos” as official figures showed higher growth in Britain’s economy.

Don’t worry, Rachel - you’ve already done more than enough on that front.

EasternStandard · Yesterday 08:37

Clive Betts MP saying he couldn’t stay this morning. I can’t see his he can given MPs are speaking more openly now.

If AR did get a penalty and paid it due to being careless (Dan Neidle on this morning) I’m not sure anyone would know as HMRC won’t disclose anything.

@Hallowedturf, Ha,ha,ha,ha,ha!

“You’re a tiger”, he then growls whilst making claw hands at his image. Sexy!
