A chat thread for those who don't like this Labour* *government. 💙

The problem with socialism is that you eventually run out of other people's money.

Desperate Starmer is dishing jobs out to Harriet Harman and Gordon Brown this morning. 😂

Is there a smack your face emoticon, I can’t seem to find it

And Harriet Harman as 'an adviser on violence against women and girls'...Well, that's ill advised, for the woman who was hoodwinked by pie?

Bet Reeves is chewing a wasp.

Old Labour men from Mandelson era. Just what we need.

DenizenOfAisleOfShame · 09/05/2026 10:52

I caught some of Newsnight last night. I very rarely bother with it these days. They showed part of an interview with Zia Yusuf. He was questioned about Farage’s £5m gift and whether there were any other gifts we should know about.

It was a painful sight. Yusuf was not even remotely convincing. This really does smell rotten.

I’m pleased that Labour has taken a massive hit, but I think Reform are going to unravel. I can only hope the Tories benefit.

It’s curious. Starmer seems to think that faces from the Blair era are going to be useful and well received. As if the sight of Brown and Harman will reassure the voters. I think that whenever I see Jacqui Smith on the telly. She’s not some wise elder stateswoman. She’s as useless now as she was then. And Brown and Harman are, and are seen as, equally useless.

How Labour views itself and how everyone else views them are worlds apart.

Good to know, thanks. Bootle is one of the seats he is rumoured to have his eye on. Do you think he'd stand a chance there? Some Labour people seem to be over-egging his potential imo.

I was chatting to a bloke at work recently who was still mighty upset about the failed clean air zone AB tried to impose in GM. He had replaced his van (which he struggled to afford) right before the u turn.

Bootle returned 5/6 Labour councillors, so he might do OK there. @Sarahconnor1 is closer to that end of Sefton than I am, so may know more about people's thoughts.

Harriet "you can't be a tory and a feminist" Harman.

Really?! Quite a bold statement from the party which thinks women can have a penis!

Yeh it's not very reassuring dragging the old guard in. Its an admission of failure and desperation imv.

Exactly. And the party that cannot bring itself to elect a female leader.
Google it, she has form going back years on this. She reiterated this view recently on a podcast, and was rightly slapped down by Ruth Davidson.

Ikr.
She's been defending the indefensible Labour government on Electoral Dysfunction since Labour were elected.
I wondered if she was after a job, and here we are.

I don’t dislike Harman particularly - she’s not a weirdo like Brown, who during his time at the top was known to staff as the Prime Mentalist - but she’s the epitome of Labour time servers. She’s never actually done anything, just hung around left-wing causes and moved from job to job in government and the Labour Party.

boys3 · 09/05/2026 11:24

Hoping Labour hit 1400 losses today. They seem more upset when they lose to the Greens. I suppose they can't out virtue signal a Green

They are almost there, -1395 a couple of minutes ago, so around the -1450 mark is a likely end point.

Croydon, Lambeth, Lewisham, Tower Hamlets still to do. Plus Bradford - neither SKY or BeeB showing any results there, though I'm sure they counted yesterday.

Greens confirmed as taking Hackney, and fell 1 short in Haringey.

Reform confirmed as taking Calderdale, largest party in Kirklees - where Labour lost all 34 of its seats.

Almost even split in Coventry - Lab 24, Ref 20, Con 6, Green 4

Brum - not sure those last four seats results are yet on Sky/BBC

Current picture

Losses

Labour -1395
Conservatives - 561

Gains

Reform +1420
Green + 382
Lib Dems +153
Indies / other +9

It’s also desperate stuff from Starmer. And it won’t do anything but harden the already deep dislike towards him.

Not listening but photo ops with old Labour are exactly what he’d do, that people don’t like.

boys3 · 09/05/2026 11:30

Bradford latest - not all seats counted yet

Reform 23
Conservative 18
Labour 12
Green Party 7
Indies / Other 3

so about 2/3 declared so far

Labour held 46 of the seats going into the election

Upstartled · 09/05/2026 11:30

The BBC have Labour at -1408. I don't know how all these different outlets are doing this differently? Pretty sure the Telegraph has given up counting entirely and gone home for the weekend.

The BBC’s showing Labour -1409.

So -1450 looks like a good bet.

I think its just as more results come through - Sky seemed a bit quicker with updates yesterday.

Indeed. And Labour MPs are already calling these jobs pointless.

boys3 · 09/05/2026 11:36

So -1450 looks like a good bet.

Thinking about it -1475 may be within reach, not sure the -1500 mark will be broached although that would be a nice round number of losses to achieve.
