A chat thread for those who don't like this Labour* *government. 💙

The problem with socialism is that you eventually run out of other people's money.

Do you know how many are left to contest?

DenizenOfAisleOfShame · 09/05/2026 11:38

boys3 · 09/05/2026 11:36

So -1450 looks like a good bet.

Thinking about it -1475 may be within reach, not sure the -1500 mark will be broached although that would be a nice round number of losses to achieve.

Ooh, -1412 now. Come on Labour, please get to a nice round -1500!

Croydon, Lambeth, Lewisham, Tower Hamlets plus the full Bradford results

Upstartled · 09/05/2026 11:44

Thank you.

boys3 · 09/05/2026 11:44

Labour came into the election with 100 councillors across Croydon, Lewisham and TH. Haven't checked the Lambeth number

EasternStandard · 09/05/2026 11:53

DenizenOfAisleOfShame · 09/05/2026 11:33

Indeed. And Labour MPs are already calling these jobs pointless.

A set of elections which is pretty much a verdict on the leader / PM.

We loathe you

Response - Ok here’s a photo of me and some other outdated Labour stalwart.

Clive Bett saying Labour need to listen to the electorate otherwise what’s the point. And that is about Starmer.

The BBC have Labour at -1408. I don't know how all these different outlets are doing this differently? Pretty sure the Telegraph has given up counting entirely and gone home for the weekend.

You may be right about the Telegraph 😂

The Times is the same. I think they're all having a lie-in.

The Sunday papers will be interesting. I bet there have been many briefings from angry Labour MPs, and we might see the early signs of cabinet rebellion.

redange · 09/05/2026 11:59

Not quite the 1700 Seats I hoped for Reform but 1425 is very good when you analyse where those seats have come from. In many cases directly from Labour over to Reform.

I am having a good laugh this morning, with the number of desperate posts from those on the 'Left' of the Spectrum. Are they going to continually keep posting that 'Reform Voters are Thick' and instead of debating call them out because they have not used paragraphs in their posts !

This, is highlighting how utterly stupid these left wing posters are in thinking that being able to write in paragraphs makes somebody an expert or logical in political thinking. These, posters need to understand politics comes from the City of Polis in ancient Greece where everyone had the chance to be heard in open seminars. Therefore, not ridiculed based on irrelevant information in this case lack of paragraphs. This is done by the left to bully because they are in capable of debating.

Old Labour men from Mandelson era. Just what we need.

Why not bring back Blair whilst they’re at it…(Joke).

At least he’s commercial and pragmatic…

You really are our own Peter Snow!

No need for the swingometer given we all know that Labour are heading to zero…

CruCru · 09/05/2026 12:30

I’m now wondering if there will be a Reform / Tory coalition after the next GE.

Not sure what would be in it for Reform.

WaffleBomb · 09/05/2026 12:33

@redange

Ignore that thread. The intolerance of the left is quite something.
Reform did very well yesterday, particularly when you look at the granular data ward by ward. They are beating Labour in their heartlands, and reducing their vote share.

Possibly, but they won't advertise it before the GE as it will hurt both party's votes.

If Badenoch’s still in place I doubt she’d want a formal coalition with Reform. Confidence and supply maybe. But the risks of Reform fucking up are too great to tie yourself to them.

TheNoWord · 09/05/2026 12:36

This does give me some hope for the Conservatives at a GE; could be a very different picture by the time it comes around of course, but many people will have had a chance to see how Reform have performed at a local level by then too.

It might be the only thing that gets them over the line if they are short of seats. But it wouldn't serve either of them to orchestrate this in advance.

CruCru · 09/05/2026 12:39

They won’t advertise it beforehand. But I could see Badenoch and Farage making this work.

I'm going to call it and say no

I don't think an old party will want to be in cahoots with a new one, particularly not if Nigel Farage stays at the helm. I don't think Nigel Farage wants to be prime minister - I think he will find a replacement before 2029.

Just my 2p worth

Meanwhile, is Starmer relying really heavily on advisers who are playing practical jokes on him? Harriet Harman?!

editing to add - I also don't think Reform will want a coalition with the Conservatives either. We're not in friendly "I agree with Nick" territory I don't think.

stranger things have happened I suppose. Everything is very strange now.

In other news
The new deputy mayor of Hackney apparently thinks no one should make profit if they're a landlord

These people are very clever. He's 19 or 20. He's got himself a salary of 45 to 60 K depending on allowances. I'm not sure how much actual work he will need to do, but we're going to be getting a mayor and I really don't like it - we run perfectly fine without one. I appreciate that London needs a mayor overall but I do question the smaller mayoral jobs

He's mostly run on a campaign of selling hope. And he'll be able to walk into a lot of jobs after doing this. Very clever.

maybe he will do something useful I don't know. I'm always willing to keep an open mind. But I'm very glad I left London. The results there are.... very London.

WaffleBomb · 09/05/2026 13:13

I recall someone i worked with believing with great sincerity that no-one should earn more than £26k. She stood for her local elections based on that platform.

I liked to think she would eventually grow up. But no. She just moved in to national politics.

Bootle returned 5/6 Labour councillors, so he might do OK there. @Sarahconnor1 is closer to that end of Sefton than I am, so may know more about people's thoughts.

Bootle is probably one of Burnhams best shots. He was born and brought up close by and there are still a lot of Labour till I die voters in the area, who vote Labour because that's what the family have always done.

What might impact is voter apathy and there is still some resentment, from voters with long memories, because of the way Blairs government dragged it's heels over the Hillsborough enquiry (see Burnham being heckled at Anfield)

Im sure Burnham and his supporters are crunching the numbers.
