What is something you do even though you know it isn’t good for you?

Sunbathing/not avoiding the sun. I’ve been an outdoors/beach person my whole life. I love nothing more than a hot sunny day outside, swimming, hiking, day at the beach. I don’t want to cover up and hide away from the sun. I don’t want a big hat and sitting in the shade.

I know I have and will continue to age quicker. I know the risk of skin cancer is higher. But on this one I don’t care, the quality of my life is more important to me.

So what are yours?

Have you also stopped using any sunscreens, cosmetics, cleaning products and toiletries with known carcinogens in them? Don’t forget to take your vitamin D, if you’re not allowing any sun on your skin.

BTW, I’m not denying that sunburn/excess sun exposure is a significant factor in skin cancer, I’m simply pointing out that it’s not the only risk factor, and that there are lots of others but we just don’t talk about them.

I am fascinated! What is it with the Diet Coke. Is it bad for you?

I am asking genuinely as I have never drunk a can of any coke.

I do drink a glass or two or three of wine every day. I do all the healthy things and have never considered my wine consumption unhealthy. I love it!

Eat far too much McDonald’s. Even worse I’m generally a foodie and love good quality food, spend money on Michelin meals etc and buy top quality ingredients, source my meat
from high welfare low distance suppliers etc etc but I bloody love a sausage and egg McMuffin and a quarter pounder. Terrible for health, the planet and my politics but I can’t help it..

Diet Coke and monster munch are my vices. Delicious!

I drink too much caffeine.

The sun I avoid like the plague purely because I am vain and I dont want to look like an old leather handbag. Seeing Ulrika Jonsson's skin recently really shocked me.

Eating chocolate. I eat pretty healthy meals with loads of vegetables but I can easily eat a whole bar of chocolate every day.

LizandDerekGoals · Yesterday 09:45

Crisps. Salt and cider or balsamic vinegar. Lancashire or tesco crinkle cut are the best. This isnt up for debate btw. I wonder whether I am missing something which is making me crave salt. Like affection…

Bottle of Pinot Noir a week (it's lower alcohol though)

I don’t know that there is much evidence that Diet Coke is very bad for you but it almost certainly can’t be good for you because it seems to contain no nutrients at all- the ingredients are chemicals I’ve never heard of 😂 It’s likely very bad for teeth (even though it doesn’t contain sugar) and bad for stomach lining too I should imagine. I love it though and find it hard to give up.

Drinking alcohol. I have cut down a lot, though!

Coffee

Coffee is very good for you, particularly for the liver.

Vroomfondleswaistcoat · Yesterday 09:53

I exercise, have a good BMI, don't drink, don't smoke, don't do drugs...

but do NOT let me near an open carton of double cream. I will swig it from the fridge, pour it on cereal, have it on pasta... Also have a butter habit but, as I don't like bread much it's less of a problem.

MNLurker1345 · Yesterday 09:54

@Waitingfordoggo, thanks for that. Just did a quick ChatGPT and it basically confirms what you have said. Not intrinsically bad, but like wine, moderation is best.

As children we were never allowed Coke. I am 59 now and this rule has clearly stuck with me. Strange isn’t it?

Redbull

Me, too! I do drink the sugar free Red Bull, though. And I’ve been a crisp addict all my life. That’s not going to change!

You can prise my Diet Coke out of my cold dead hands 🤣

FiveMetresUp · Yesterday 09:59

Wine 🍷 😞

I eat a healthy plant-based diet, get tons of exercise, 2 litres of water a day, good sleep and fresh air, avoid microplastics as much as possible, volunteer, etc … but I just can’t seem to stop drinking 😭.

The same with my bottle of PInot Noir!

I do not have a problem with alcohol. But according to my GP, I drink too much. Now I just lie to them because I ain’t stopping. @

Ha ha! I can take or leave alcohol but will never give up Diet Coke. Chocolate and cheese are also essential for my happiness 🤭

This made me giggle because the last thing my DF requested before he died was a can of Coke! Even though he hadn’t been eating or drinking for days.

Used to be drinking but I quit over 2 years ago. Now it’s taking codeine based painkillers daily. I know they’re for short term use only but I crave the feeling they give me. Really need to tackle this problem.

My DH did the daily codeine daily meditation
routine when I first met him. Trauma related and my DM also after a knee replacement.

They are both off of them now. My husband needed my intervention and my DM, not realising that she was addicted, kept pressuring the GP when the 3 month prescription ended. I am involved in her medical care now, so no more!

Good luck in getting off them!

Probably is bad for you! Never looked and don’t care! I have at least 5 cans of Coke Zero every day and you would have to taser me to get me to stop! I’ve thought about this often and I can honestly say I would sooner go without food than my brown, fizzy elixir of life!
