What is something you do even though you know it isn’t good for you?

Sunbathing/not avoiding the sun. I’ve been an outdoors/beach person my whole life. I love nothing more than a hot sunny day outside, swimming, hiking, day at the beach. I don’t want to cover up and hide away from the sun. I don’t want a big hat and sitting in the shade.

I know I have and will continue to age quicker. I know the risk of skin cancer is higher. But on this one I don’t care, the quality of my life is more important to me.

So what are yours?

God, me too. Miss it every day!

And me too! I still will slow down my walk and loiter behind a smoker 😄 and I hated it when vaping became popular and replaced the smell of cigarette smoke with a cloud of noxious, sweet, fumes.

I eat too many kebabs although I tell myself it's OK as there's salad on there and it's grilled chicken ( and tons of mayo, halloumi, chips 😂)

Watching stupid very entertaining cop cams on FB videos until all hours when I should be asleep. Just one more, just one more. Addictive, and I shouldn't.

I do this too . I also vape and have 1 glass of Shiraz at 5 pm ! Those cop cams are so addictive!

smoking on a night out. It’s a rare occasion for me these days, I’m lucky if I have a night on the town twice a year and I really enjoy a cig when I’ve a few drinks on board.

Zov · Yesterday 09:08

Spend half my spare time on Mumsnet! 😬

MarmaladeSandwich7 · Yesterday 09:08

Used to be drinking but I quit over 2 years ago. Now it’s taking codeine based painkillers daily. I know they’re for short term use only but I crave the feeling they give me. Really need to tackle this problem.

Missey85 · Yesterday 09:13

Smoking 🚬 and probably coffee ☕

Ohjailer · Yesterday 09:16

Scrolling on MN!

I actually do need to stop that. Sorry MN, you are a big waste of time I don’t have to spare.

I actively chose the most unhealthy options for most of my life, it was a default to smoke, shove down sugar and fried foods with abandon.

At 45, I've slowly had to unlearn my whole coping strategies and fix my health for the last time. I don't smoke or vape and I don't eat upfs, only whole foods. If I want a sweet treat, I have to bake it from scratch. I do still drink, I have a couple of glasses of wine or a premade cocktail at the weekend but I drink these earlier and switch to water after 9pm. I go to bed before 11pm every night and get up 7-8am every day. I deleted tiktok, limit FB to 15m a day and mainly use instagram as my main sm platform. I have a blank account where I follow health and fitness people and motivational speakers. It's so pleasant to have somewhere to go where people are trying to improve themselves instead of trolling and vile comments. It's my small dose of positivity and motivation a few times a day, it has completely changed my mood and outlook.

Alcohol I just love the fast track to relaxation it gives me. And cooking with a glass of wine is such a lovely feeling.

I generally eat really healthily but have been k own to occasionally eat an entire tub of ice cream when no ones looking!

Oh and Baileys. I cannot be trusted around Baileys.

Waitingfordoggo · Yesterday 09:18

Too much Diet Coke and too much sugar. Vaping. Spliffs.

But I exercise loads and eat plenty of fruit and veg. Alcohol on special occasions only (holidays/weddings/funerals). I am careful in the sun too ‘cause I’ve seen someone die of melanoma and it was shocking (what it does to your brain is the very upsetting bit).

EvangelicalAboutButteredToast · Yesterday 09:18

Too much bread.

Having had three procedures during the last year, for potential skin cancers, I won’t ever sunbathe and any exposed skin will be slathered in factor 50.

Have you also stopped using any sunscreens, cosmetics, cleaning products and toiletries with known carcinogens in them? Don’t forget to take your vitamin D, if you’re not allowing any sun on your skin.

Carcinogens in Cosmetics

The laws governing cosmetics and personal care products are so limited that known cancer-causing chemicals, or carcinogens, are legally allowed in personal care products. Some carcinogens, such as formaldehyde and formaldehyde-releasing preservatives,...

Drink too much on nights out.

Eat chocolate (not the kind that could claim.to be a health food)

Eat chips and white pasta

Go on my phone when I should be trying harder to go back to sleep.

All of the above counterbalanced by providing much joy to my life and generally having a healthy lifestyle.

JuliettaCaeser · Yesterday 09:27

I can’t have biscuits in the house especially chocolate digestive. They are catnip to me I just eat them all. If they’re not there I don’t have them. Teetering at the top of healthy bmi so no biscuits purchased.

AnticsNShenanigans · Yesterday 09:29

Chocolate every day.

I’m knocking on for 50 and have slowly knocked every bad habit on the head. Stopped smoking in my 30s. Went tee total at 40. Just recently given up vaping.

I have never sun-worshipped and have worn spf50 every day since my 20s. I exercise daily - yoga, weights, dance or walking.

For fuck sake, I try to be good but allow me my daily chocolate fix!

Catwalking · Yesterday 09:30

Too much, far too much, butter! Some have even said am i sure i wanted the bread with my butter 😬

but I’ve never smoked anything!!!😂

dontforgetme · Yesterday 09:31

@Whosthetabbynow snap!

ItalianChineseIndianMexican · Yesterday 09:35

Let OCD control me. Not always but on bad days.

Also, probably eat too much sugar. And maybe sit down too much.

Doyouthinktheyknow · Yesterday 09:37

Eat too much sugar, I’m an addict. Trying to go cold turkey again, day 3 today.

I mostly gave up alcohol, now only drink occasionally which I found easy but sugar has got me bad!
