A chat thread for those who don't like this Labour government. 💙

The problem with socialism is that you eventually run out of other people's money.

Afternoon 😁

Keir Starmer should be thoroughly ashamed of himself today. All these people being put through the wringer by the committee, and having their integrity questioned because of Bollard's failings. Now Labour MPs being forced to vote for him to avoid scrutiny. He really is a disgrace.

I missed the start of the debate, but just heard Karl Turner's speech. I bloody love Karl Turner. 😂

He’s great 😬 I didn’t know there was a debate will have a look. Of course the bollard is whipping them, he’s cowardly as anything.

This is all on him. Bizarre he thinks otherwise.

WaffleBomb · 28/04/2026 14:46

Surprised how much I liked Morgan McSweeney.

Emily Thornberry clearly despises him though. If looks could kill 😂

Ha I was the opposite ET went up hugely in my esteem I loved her incredulity over ‘he stayed at his apartment’ after MMcS believed Mandelson answers.

Brilliant from her.

Kemi is on a roll, hardly any Labour have turned up. As the others have said it’s a cross party view, only Labour are blocking an investigation.

What I gathered is that Brexit it to blame for the Peter Mandelson’s appointment.

Nothing says 'we are all united in support of the PM' more then being whipped into voting in his favour.

Labour MPs are effectively being forced to put their own jobs on the line to prop up a PM that might be toast after the locals.

Yeah, I think that’s the issue for Labour MPs. Starmer is on his way out anyway. There’s no incentive for them to vote for an embarrassing process of committee scrutiny.

It will leave an unanswered question forever though: had Starmer been subject to inquiry about whether he misled the commons, would he have been found against? A pretty shit political legacy.

I think it looks bad for them though.

justasking111 · 28/04/2026 15:07

If the chamber is pretty empty do the absent MPs vote in absentia?

EasternStandard · 28/04/2026 15:15

The Starmer apologists and diehards should listen to Emma Lewell Labour MP

Yes ET was good today. Looked like she'd waited a long time to give McSweeney a good thrashing. 😁

It all makes for an interesting run up to the elections happening next week, at least. Wonder how many more embarrassments they can squeeze in between now and then. I think any hope that Labour might be able to keep their losses lower than 1000 seats is a distant memory, that's for sure.

EasternStandard · 28/04/2026 19:09

The system sounds pretty bad if a PM can whip MPs to cover up stuff.

He might feel good that he got out of it, hopefully May votes will show otherwise.

WaffleBomb · 28/04/2026 19:16

Thats a win for the opposition imo. They can now say that Labour MPs voted for the cover up, and there's still loads of Mandelson files to come out.

YouGov - 61% of Britons think Starmer should face an inquiry.

If Labour MPs could reflect this then it’d be a democracy. Starmer is a weasel and coward.

Yeah, Ed Davey has also accused Starmer of cowardice.

Party before country, as per.

Another pre GE lie, ‘I’ll put country before party’,

The only good thing is how annoyed that 61% will be and votes soon.

They'll be independents by tomorrow then! Good on them.

WaffleBomb · 28/04/2026 20:04

Ha, yes let's see what the consequences are. Perhaps he'll start sacking MPs too!

A few journalists have been saying that Starmer doesn't even have the authority to do the expected post-election reshuffle anymore.

I've just looked at the list of the Labour MPs who voted for the motion. It's quite clear that the left of the party is on manoeuvres!

It's the only way they stand a chance of retaining their seats at the next election.
