Schrödinger's Strait - Trump Thread #162A

Spandauer · 19/04/2026 14:58

The Strait of Schrödinger remains open and closed, safe and dangerous, insurable and uninsurable, blockaded and free.

"You put your tanker in, you put your tanker out
In, out, in, out, you sail it all about
You do the Straits of Hormuz and you turn around
That’s what it’s all about!"

THANK YOU FOR YOUR ATTENTION TO THIS MATTER!

Got overwhelmed by the 🍊💩's idiot fuckery last time and missed out thread #161 so have designated this one as fake #162...A

He Has No Deal, He Has No Dice - Trump Thread #162 | Mumsnet

Old enough to remember whole years in which I barely thought about the American president. Previous thread: [[https://www.mumsnet.com/talk/<u&gt...

In a nutshell, then, the orange loon stole Vz's oil and attacked Iran with the sole purpose of enriching his family, friends, and himself.

It was all about insider trading and making a quick buck. Is that right?

If that's literally all his presidency is about they really need to crack on and remove him from office and prosecute the fuck out of all this.
He's despicable.
I suspect it's a bit more complicated but what do I know? Sometimes I feel the world has proved to be such a crazy fuck up over the last few years that any faith I had in anything good is destroyed. And that, therefore and on some level, I know nothing.

It's awful. I feel sorry for my son. The cost of living was bad enough but now this. On the other hand I don't think the situation with the rest of the world and the US is irreversible if they come to their senses and vote the tossers out. But who knows. I still can't get my head around how they went from Obama to Trump

I do have a child starting University in September.....
It is a nightmare! I am really worried about the increase of prices that is to follow for this year.

Regarding reversibility... Carney does not think so, some of the countries meeting up are adamant that that was it. They do not sound like they are going to turn back to the same relationship with US.
In UK, Starmer has only a I am fed up with the costs, nothing much else.
But that is not the case of other countries. At all.

Jaichangecentfoisdenom · 20/04/2026 09:35

Agreed, but I don’t get it, if he has single-footedly trampled all over the US Constitution, and done away with all the famous “checks and balances”, with the aim of turning it into a hereditary dictatorship, why can’t others band together and decide to ignore it in the same way he has done? What am I missing here? Am I that stupid?

If they really locked the President of the US from the room where they were planning and directing their pilot rescue mission, it sounds like this may have started...
And it is likely the only way to stop Trump inflicting even more damage. Trump's behaviour is pushing for a full on Anarchy response. The ironies of life!!!

I am not so sure. I think if he was locked out he might end up TRUTHING more and more outrageous stuff. For example, if an Iranian shoots somebody in the US, he might invoke NATO art 5. That would start off another clusterfuck when NATO laugh at him.

Very much it....
With the US army. Risking US soldiers lives. Killing thousands. Risking US assets.
Jeopardising most of US international alliances.
Making US culpable for the huge global crisis that is looming around us. People will die of hunger because of this....

So, all profits go to Trump and friends (and Putin. Putin is a very happy man these days).
All costs and consequences go to the US.

logicisall · 20/04/2026 13:21

My take is that it all started with Netanyahu persuading Trump that attacking Iran during negotiations would be a quick in and out political success that would show the world in an image of strength, American power, military might with Trump at the helm, of course.

Key to Iran was locking down supplies of Vz oil first. Hence Maduro etc.

Others in the know saw the potential for big wins by insider trading on oil price movements and Polymarket bets. Those were opportunistic. Trump family positioned at the centre of business dealings in the ME = $$$$$$B.

At no point was the good of the American public ever considered, so why care about the foreigners in the rest of the world? Never mind those pesky brown people in the ME.

I hope Trump is jailed for his part in all this.

A stunning new report in the WSJ reveals that military advisers intentionally excluded Donald Trump from the command room during the recent high-stakes operation to extract a downed U.S. airman in Iran, because they feared his erratic behavior could jeopardize the mission. 1/

According to The Wall Street Journal, Trump was in such a volatile state after Iran shot down a U.S. jet that he spent hours screaming at aides in the West Wing, obsessing over the political fallout and invoking Jimmy Carter and the 1979 hostage crisis. 2/

Officials made the call to limit his access, only briefing him at “meaningful moments” instead of giving him real-time control. 3/

Meanwhile, the operation itself nearly fell apart, with aircraft stuck in desert sand and U.S. forces scrambling to avoid Iranian detection. The airman was eventually rescued, but the chaos didn’t end there. 4/

Just hours later, Trump woke up and fired off his profanity-laced threat online, warning Iran it would be left “living in Hell.” 5/

How's that working out for ya, Bibi?

Apart from the loss of life, all Trump has achieved is fucking the economy (with doubtless insider trading to protect /enrich his own assets) and inadvertently rebranding Iran as "the reasonable one"

I think it is working out great for Bibi.

The world's focus is US/Iran right now.

Gaza is a memory and Lebanon is a side bar.

Bibi won, in every possible way.

Nobody backs 4000 German tourists into a corner.

If you think the nuclear-powered supercarrier USS Gerald R. Ford is the most powerful ship in the world, you are wrong. It's actually the German cruise ship Mein Schiff 4 (pictured), which successfully transited the Strait of Hormuz over the weekend

And since the name Mein Schiff 4 implies the existence of Mein Schiff 1, Mein Schiff 2 and Mein Schiff 3, their operator TUI Cruises likely has the strongest navy in the world right now. Iranian blockade? Doesn't matter. American blockade? You might care, TUI does not

I've just been informed that they actually have 7 of these monsters and they all make the Yamato look like a toy! The Westphalian system is over and the multipolar world is cancelled. There's just one pole now and it's TUI

It's possible that Israel is slightly less popular around the world than it used to be ?

I am reminded of a appalling (but quite insightful) joke about Stevie Wonder being asked if he felt depressed about being blind.

There were no passengers on board though and only skeleton staff.

Employing skeletons is one way to do it I suppose.

I'm now picturing Scrotus prancing around the WH dressed in a Capt Jack Sparrow outfit complete with dreads and eyeliner singing 'A Pirate's Life for Me'.

Not a pretty sight.

Ah! It was slightly distracting from all the unpleasantness to imagine the passengers repelling the US navy with stale pumpernickel loaves.

Glad to know no one was actually at risk.(apart from the poor crew of course)
