Tumps exact words today!

WTAF? That sounds like he is about to drop a Nuke!

How the hell has the world got here?

Trumps truth social posts sounds more like something that a dramatic gleeful tv presenter would say in a game show. Not something a world leader threatening to blow up an entire civilisation.

Given Pakistan is a nuclear power I wonder whether they got a negotiation completed by suggesting it would lend them to Iran.

I think what we have learnt for Iran and Ukraine is that if a state doesn't have nuclear weapons they are screwed.

No - they got a negotiation completed because the US desperately needed an out, and it looks like Iran had a lot of their proposals agreed in principle.

You can't just lend nuclear weapons around!

Dragonflytamer · 08/04/2026 10:27

PandoraSocks · 08/04/2026 10:15

Please can someone explain to me why Israel is doing this. I know the excuses they give, but what is the real reason? Because they want the land?

My conclusion is that Netanyahu just like bombing things. It's his hobby that has got completely out of hand.

Don't compare Iran and Ukraine - Ukraine is a democracy, Irans regime is a death cult.

And no - Pakistan would never give nukes to Iran. Everybody hates Iran. Pariah state

The non-cynical answer is that Israel sees Hezbollah as a threat to their existence and wants to take all action they can to decimate their capability, which includes establishing a buffer zone that Hezbollah won't be able to operate in to make it harder for them to attack Israel.

The cynical answer is that Netanyahu doesn't want early elections to be called.

SingleSexSpacesInSchools · 08/04/2026 09:02

If by most you mean more than 50%..... I doubt it.

You have to compare whats happening - is war bad - yes

is the IRG way way worse than the USA? Hell yes. So sometimes you just hold your breathe and do the lesser of two evils

Abstention and appeasement is not an option here.

This has strengthened the Iranian regime which wa starting to weaken from within. If you attack a country, particularly infrastructure, people rally around the flag however much they otherwise disagree with the government.

CharlotteRumpling · 08/04/2026 10:39

BIossomtoes · 08/04/2026 10:15

is the IRG way way worse than the USA? Hell yes

Not with Trump in the White House. Six of one and half dozen of the other.

I believe the IRG is worse. But this war does not seem to have destroyed them and has replaced a regime of old men with a regime of younger, even angrier men.
It's very hard to believe a country wants to liberate you when the head is shouting" Back to the Stone Age".

fracturedupont · 08/04/2026 10:45

The IRG is obviously worse than the Trump regime. Any suggestion otherwise is just ridiculous - Iran killed 30k protestors and that's on a different magnitude to anything ICE has done.

I can't see how this war has helped the Iranian people in the slightest though, so it's not really relevant who is worse. There's no lala land where the Iranian people now rise up against the regime (1) having your friends and family bombed tends to solidify a population against the person attacking them, and (2) there is no organized resistance to rise up - the regime kills them!

Hallamule · 08/04/2026 10:49

The IRG is obviously worse than the Trump regime

Probably, but if we are comparing body counts then I think we get to add in overseas body counts too, for both sides.

EasterParadeHats · 08/04/2026 10:52

Really cardibach? That's rather a sweeping statement.
I'm sure some Iranians do but the one person i saw on sky was weeping saying "imagine how desperate we are...we are asking another country to bomb us".

The regime has not given us an inch in 47 years

Dragonflytamer · 08/04/2026 11:01

Now we are all supposed to think is Trump great he has got the Strait opened and reduced all prices. It's like me setting fire to your house and then expecting you to be grateful I called the fire brigade.

I don't even know where to start with this? But, just.....no. Pakistan would never lend their nuclear weapons to Iran. How can you even think they would?

Honestly, I despair sometimes. Just huge swathes of society who clearly have no idea of how the world actually works.

EasterParadeHats · 08/04/2026 11:04

@ilovepuppies2019 that guardian piece is also true

Iran has shown itself to be a formidable opponent

Many questions why in the first suprise attack the USA didn't take kharg.island hostage to leverage the strait.

EasterParadeHats · 08/04/2026 11:06

@Dragonflytamer unfortuntly it doesn't look like there is movement in the strait yet.
I'll believe it when I see it.

However I never thought for one second trump would annihilate Iran he had no where else to go with the threats after yelling come on you bastards open up the straight

Wellthisisdifficult · 08/04/2026 11:10

Well fuel rationing is affecting some flights now.

StandFirm · 08/04/2026 11:11

EasterParadeHats · 08/04/2026 06:32

So trumps strategy worked.
Let's see if those boats get going

Iran controlling the Strait is absolutely bonkers. It was never the case but thanks to DJT and his courtiers (or rather, jesters) and sheer rank incompetence, Iran - and by extension Russia- have now got something they would not have dreamed of in the last 47 years! DJT is definitely delivering - but not for the West.

And the very very cynical answer is that both he and Trump have the same boss.

I have said this to you before, Eastern, but I urge you to read the posts by @AgingLikeGazpacho on this thread and the other thread we were both on. If you have read them I am surprised you have never acknowledged them.

And one of the reasons for that is the popular support it enjoys at home. That's been on the wane for a long time now but it's not the case that 6 mad mullahs are oppressing a whole population by the force of their will.

I'm not defending Trump threatening to blow up infrastructure. It's probably a war crime, the same way that Iran blowing up the water desalination plant in Kuwait for example is probably a war crime.

I'm just saying - he is talking about blowing up infrastructure not literally ending civilisation. This will be obvious by the morning (UK time).

The US war planes are flying out of the Gulf States to bomb Iran, including from Kuwait. I think the Iranians are justified in retaliating. It's a betrayal, Iran didn't start this war but they will end it.

Stop with the ridiculous word soup.

It's not his age that's making people say he's crazy - it's the evidence he presents every time he opens his mouth or touches a keyboard.

Do you usually struggle with long words?

Because they wouldn't have been able to hold it and Iran would have carpet bombed it. The loss of US life would have been massive.

There is also the issue of the gross violation of international law. Countries must resolve internal issues by themselves without interference from the big bully. The US's reputation is shot, totally and irretrievably.

Anyone remember the plot? A limited nuclear exchange in Iran, then boots on ground.
