What strategy? It's another U turn, Iran wouldn't capitulate so he backed down. Iran will open the straits under their control. No regime change and negotiations which will go where? Iran won't accept most of Trump's demands. Back where we were at the start of this fiasco if we are lucky, just with a lot of dead civilians and a lot of destruction, well done Trump.

Iran has not "received everything they asked for" because this is a 2 week ceasefire for negotiations - it is not the final deal.

Iran have issued their demands but so have the US.

Neither side will get everything on their list but they will both need to make some concessions to get a deal signed over the next fortnight or so (it can be extended if both parties want it to be extended).

It remains to be seen if this ceasefire will hold as the terms have already changed from what it appears both Iran and Pakistan thought was agreed. Israel has said it does not cover actions in Lebanon. That's a material point for Iran (and the Lebanese civilians).

I'm not sure whether Iran realistically can move forwards with this ceasefire with this big of a gap between the two (three/four?) sides, but let's see.

I can't help thinking there is something else going on here and it's not about Iran, or the American people or anything other than money and some already rich people getting richer.

I think we will see some senior military heads role in the US. It looks me like the the military has stood up to Trump and refused to his plan.

Hopefully Trump will see reopening the strait as a victory and pull back.

Using the US definitions (the US census one which I think is broadly accepted across the US), Iranians absolutely are considered white. 'White' in the US means a person with origins in Europe, the Middle East, or North Africa.

So technically we are looking at power play amongst old white men. Now whether or not the 'white' is something that should be being raised in that point (or the 'old' or the 'men') is obviously something that can be discussed. I think it's relevant that none of the leaders involved come from a group that is even close to a minority within their own countries, and none of them really have anything to lose at this stage.

I know many people have said this already on this thread and probably others but can anyone explain why Trump has faced no backlash or consequences for want of a better word for the horrific message yesterday? I can’t get my head around the fact that he is able to say literally what he wants and nothing happens? It’s just so sad and concerning that there appear to be no boundaries or accountability.

Hate to quote myself but I did say pay attention to what he DOES not what he SAYS.

My husband was military in Gulf War 2. At one point someone in a briefing room he was in stood up and said 'I believe that's an illegal order' and walked out. DH says that there was a pause in the room and a tipping point - had one more person followed the majority of the room would have done. But they didn't and all that happened is that the person who objected ended their career and lost their livelihood.

That's what's happening in the US - if someone stands up alone to Trump they're done politically and probably financially as well - he and his cronies would ruin them. Very few people in reality have enough strength of character for that.

You'd need justification for doing so, if you have it, not just "I don't like him" then you should let the Democrats in the US know, they will be looking but have not found one yet....
