Tumps exact words today!

WTAF? That sounds like he is about to drop a Nuke!

How the hell has the world got here?

Trumps truth social posts sounds more like something that a dramatic gleeful tv presenter would say in a game show. Not something a world leader threatening to blow up an entire civilisation.

I watch left(,for the US)wing media and there are increasing calls for the enaction of the 25th amendment, not just from Democrats but Republicans too

I really hope that the 25th amendment is invoked. It's absolutely comical he's managed to get this far without being chucked out to be honest. It makes you wonder who really is at the top table allowing trump to continue like this. Someone needs to do something or else we will all suffer. The whole world.

You’d think Melaina would rein the fuckwit in.

You're right - this whole shitshow must fundamentally be a woman's fault. Somehow.

Surely some senior people in the USA must be having conversations about this now. Trump is completely unhinged.

😞

Sadly some of them are revving him up. He is a psychopathic bully.

It's 1am UK time, that's all you need to know if based in the UK.

I already knew that.

The only thing I’ll be “knowing” at 1am is the inside of my eyelids.

I’m utterly gobsmacked the world is sitting and just letting this happen. I was shocked that the horrors visited on Palestine just got ‘strong words’ but ffs..what’s wrong with us?

How do you suggest the world stops this?

Dragonflytamer · 07/04/2026 19:13

Russia vetoed Trump at the UN. Trump is going to be furious with his bestie.

Well "Oh sh*t" the lunatic is in charge of the asylum!

Trump’s “a whole civilisation will die tonight” line is certainly… theatrical. But before anyone starts digging a bunker, it’s worth remembering that the US military doesn’t take instructions from Truth Social.

Real orders have to be formal, verified, and legal. Senior officers swear an oath to the Constitution, not to whoever’s having a dramatic evening online. Nuclear systems have layers of safeguards specifically to stop impulsive decisions.
So while the rhetoric is alarming, the actual risk of someone pressing a button because of a social‑media post is vanishingly small.

But if he does try to go down that route, hopefully it will be the catalyst the US people need to get him out.

And lets be honest, the rhetoric is worrying, but the guardrails are real. The situation is serious, but not the “civilisation-ending” scenario some headlines imply. Its how Trump works, he likes to set the cat amongst the pigeons.

Well at least that is what I am hoping!!!

What an awful post. Seriously disturbing on many points.

Trump is the President of The United States. POTUS.

Your take on his proclamation is that it's all a joke.

Honestly, this is the most disturbing post I've ever seen on this forum.

Ageism is an easy shortcut in heated debates
When discussions get emotional or polarised, people seem to reach for quick, blunt attacks instead of nuanced arguments.
Age seems to become a visible, simple trait to target—even if it’s not actually relevant to the person’s policies or actions.
Prejudice comes from all different directions with mumsnet

I never mentioned his age, so how can you see ageism in my post?
I was not emotional, or making a quick blunt attack.
I was relating my personal experiences of the onset of dementia and the aftermath of TIA’s on a family member to the similarities I can see in Mr Trump.

And how do you know that?? You don't know what trump is talking about at all. Just like none of us on the thread know. And with trump, we have to assume the worst because hes deluded and mental enough to really really push that button.

No. Just no. He isn't going to push any button. Do you really think he has a big red button on his watch or something? Even if he wanted to, he simply wouldn't be allowed to, for Heaven's sake.

Hysteria doesn't help anyone.

Jesus Christ are there still people banging on about Iran having nuclear weapons? Are people really still that stupid?

Newsflash. Iran does not have nuclear weapons.

Oh and just in case they had the potential, you might recall that around June last year Trump announced that the US had destroyed all Iran’s nuclear capabilities so if you think that was all retrieved in the space of nine months then you really are delusional.

This has nothing to do with nuclear weapons.

nothing to do with regime change.

And everything to do with oil, and power.

And the sheer irony of a country talking about eradicating nuclear capabilities and then talking in the same breath about using nukes is striking,, don’t you think?

That sort of implies you think there's any logic whatsoever to Trump's thinking. If so, I think you're giving him too much credit.

LadyLaundry · 07/04/2026 19:23

This man needs care.
Those around him with power of removal need to pack his political bags and wrap his exit in as much dignity as the situation allows.

Yes Vance and the rest of the Exec, I'm looking at you. Shameful behaviour.

PrettyPickle · 07/04/2026 19:24

Ah come on, don't be naive!

Are you really believing that STRATCOM would blindly obey any presidential order, no questions asked. That’s not how the US military works, unless one’s entire understanding of nuclear command authority comes from action films and Reddit.

According to Military.com, which interviewed Pentagon officials and military legal experts, “If a potentially unlawful order is received from the White House… there is a review process to determine whether the order is legal.”

And the UCMJ is even clearer: “Service members must obey lawful orders. They must refuse manifestly illegal orders.”

So no - a Truth Social post is not a launch code, and STRATCOM is not a vending machine where you insert a dramatic sentence and out pops Armageddon. There are legal checks, multi‑person authentication steps, and officers whose job is to say “absolutely not” if an order is unlawful or catastrophic.

The rhetoric is reckless, but the system isn’t run by muppets (well except for Trump - I can see him banging on the buttons like Animal after three espressos).

bookworm14 · 07/04/2026 19:25

From the article I posted above: “The president, and the president alone, possesses the sole authority to order a nuclear launch, and no one can legally stop him or her.”

Yeah. I do. I know who Garrett Graff is and his background and I know fuck all about your and yours.

The military has been conducting numerous war crimes under this administration including blowing up boats with no evidence and killing survivors. No reason to think safeguards are going to come into play now, but you can believe it if it makes you feel better.

And, I might point out, the whole war is a potentially unlawful order received from the White House, since a president can't go to war without congressional authorisation. Do you see the military pushing back on that? Thought not.

I'm certainly not underplaying the situation or the danger that both Iranians and surrounding countries are in, but if I had to put money on what will happen, the US will bomb a limited number of high-profle infrastructure targets tonight (with additional enthusiastic input from Israel) and then Trump will withdraw saying he's won and done his bit, and other countries need to sort out the Straights of Hormuz. He needs an off-ramp as he must realise by now Iran won't back down and he's not going to win without boots on the ground. We will be feeling the financial and political repercussions for years, and that's before we consider any direct retaliation from Iran. And Iranian civilians will face increasing crack-downs from their government along with loss of life, homes, livelihood and infrastructure.

However, Trump is notoriously fickle and we could once again have a message on Truth Social saying "THE IRANIANS WANT A DEAL - THE BIGGEST AND BEST DEAL EVER FOR THE US!!!!!!!!" or something far worse.

Weemammy21 · 07/04/2026 19:32

@Hummingbird01 It is Trump/America and Israel that are committing war crimes and murdering innocent civilians in Iran, Lebanon and now Iran on a daily basis and it is the countries that host US bases that are allowing them to commit mass murder. The only places that should have US bases is America and this should be the time the UK and other countries get rid of them

ForeverTheOptomist · 07/04/2026 19:32

Apparently Israelis have been warning Iranians not to travel by train tonight. Perhaps some sense of responsibility going on.

As for what Trump said, it has been with me all day. Hideous.

I sometimes wonder if he thinks that he's playing minecraft or some virtual war game. Lunatic.

Men bought children to this place to watch what exactly?

Children are not allowed to get out of the cat if you bring them to the recycling centre. Today I was at the recycling centre and a young boy, probably 7/8 said hello to me from the turned down window of the car he was in.

What father's do this?

You don't think he is cognitively impaired?

I don’t hold a strong view on Trump’s cognitive ability but In most cases people form opinions that align with the narratives or perspectives they already subscribe to.
Most people on mumsnet have confirmation bias
