Tumps exact words today!

WTAF? That sounds like he is about to drop a Nuke!

How the hell has the world got here?

Trumps truth social posts sounds more like something that a dramatic gleeful tv presenter would say in a game show. Not something a world leader threatening to blow up an entire civilisation.

I’d wager not one poster on this thread has ever negotiated for a living.

In fairness, negotiating on real estate (when you’re not too bothered about the legality or tax implications of your deals) is slightly different to negotiating with a regime-led nation in a sensitive part of the world that has a substantial armoury and a major dislike of the West. If I was worried about a country’s nuclear capability, the negotiating skills of a dodgy estate agent wouldn’t be top of my list to manage it.

I'm not defending Trump threatening to blow up infrastructure. It's probably a war crime, the same way that Iran blowing up the water desalination plant in Kuwait for example is probably a war crime.

I'm just saying - he is talking about blowing up infrastructure not literally ending civilisation. This will be obvious by the morning (UK time).

And how do you know that?? You don't know what trump is talking about at all. Just like none of us on the thread know. And with trump, we have to assume the worst because hes deluded and mental enough to really really push that button.

Shock and awe??

Blair never threatened to destroy an entire civilisation. If you have evidence of him saying that I would like to see it.

Well "Oh sh*t" the lunatic is in charge of the asylum!

Trump’s “a whole civilisation will die tonight” line is certainly… theatrical. But before anyone starts digging a bunker, it’s worth remembering that the US military doesn’t take instructions from Truth Social.

Real orders have to be formal, verified, and legal. Senior officers swear an oath to the Constitution, not to whoever’s having a dramatic evening online. Nuclear systems have layers of safeguards specifically to stop impulsive decisions.
So while the rhetoric is alarming, the actual risk of someone pressing a button because of a social‑media post is vanishingly small.

But if he does try to go down that route, hopefully it will be the catalyst the US people need to get him out.

And lets be honest, the rhetoric is worrying, but the guardrails are real. The situation is serious, but not the “civilisation-ending” scenario some headlines imply. Its how Trump works, he likes to set the cat amongst the pigeons.

Well at least that is what I am hoping!!!

Sorry, nope.

Garrett M. Graff (@vermontgmg.bsky.social)

This is a far simpler answer than people would like to believe. Trump issues the order via the National Military Command Center to the commander of Strategic Command, and then STRATCOM carries it out directly. There is no second vote, no veto, no che...

I find it wholly egregious that one absolutely corrupt grifter with a bunch of enablers can keep fucking with the whole world like this and talk shit about 'the free world and democracy' while not giving a damn about people's lives and livelihoods.

I have never been so desperate for intelligent life to be found on other planets.

Every decent American, whether Republican or Democrat, should be totally mortified at the 'incendiary rhetoric'. It's the electorate who put him here, and they need to end this disgrace.

I've negotiated corporate deals. The strategy has never been agree to my SPA or we will bomb your company to the ground.

I saw what seemed to be a very deliberately worded post by the royal family last week confirming that the king will be carrying out his state visit to the US "on the advice of His Majesty's Government".

Surely, surely, they will now pull the plug on this state visit?

Ageism is an easy shortcut in heated debates
When discussions get emotional or polarised, people seem to reach for quick, blunt attacks instead of nuanced arguments.
Age seems to become a visible, simple trait to target—even if it’s not actually relevant to the person’s policies or actions.
Prejudice comes from all different directions with mumsnet

And it will be 3:30 am in Iran. They are 2.5 hours ahead of the UK. I think it's quite important to know that, personally.

So the deadline is 8pm Tues in Washington. 3:30 am Wedns in Iran.

Just admit you were wrong initially, nobody judges you!

I was wrong to say 8pm Iranian time. Right to say 1am British summer time.

I can't believe we are letting these war crimes happen from our air bases. Starmer has blood on his hands.

he has less than he could have. Many people were all for " going in"

LBFseBrom · 07/04/2026 18:54

I read that earlier, I just cannot believe it will happen. It's very scary - but I refuse to be scared, what's the point? I cannot do anything.

Don’t worry @blossomtoes - anyone (or anything…) who can’t tell the difference in the spelling of county and country isn’t worth arguing with. Suspect a bot!!

In a way it’s actually Israel’s war more than America’s, as this is what the Israeli right has wanted for decades. They’ve just finally found a US President extreme and deluded enough to deliver it for them.

They were waitng for an idiot to occupy the White house, bet they cant believe their luck!

I know it because the White House has denied that a nuclear attack is planned.

Reported in The Times that the White House has denied that remarks by Vance contained any suggestion of a US nuclear strike against Iran.

After Vance said US forces had tools they “so far haven’t decided to use” an X account said he had implied “Trump might use nuclear weapons”.

The White House responded, “Literally nothing @VP said here implies this, you absolute buffoons”.

Sidebirds just has a different opinion to you …
it’s not a personal attack on your identity
Calm down

I am reasonably calm.

Dragonflytamer · 07/04/2026 19:00

US politicians need to come out and say that any US servicemen who commit war crimes will be held to account once Trump is out.

Like anything the white house can be trusted. They're all puppets of trump. Of course they have denied a nuclear attack is planned. They aren't going to admit it are they and cause mass panic and hysteria.

Cant they get rid of him under grounds of him being mentally ill?

Torchout · 07/04/2026 19:04

I watch left(,for the US)wing media and there are increasing calls for the enaction of the 25th amendment, not just from Democrats but Republicans too

I doubt it. The UK’s relationship is with the US not the current administration. He has no choice to go and make some dignified mutterings about diplomacy and peace.

He probably should go to be honest. I don’t see how not talking to Trump at all is going to make anything better.

Trump loves royalty. Maybe it’s KC chance to shine and have an influence.

Bunnyfuller1 · 07/04/2026 19:06

I’m utterly gobsmacked the world is sitting and just letting this happen. I was shocked that the horrors visited on Palestine just got ‘strong words’ but ffs..what’s wrong with us?

I understand you are anxious but Trump has not mentioned a nuclear attack but an attack on bridges and power plants.

Anything else is pure speculation that is causing other people needless anxiety and panic.

Trump couldn't just decide to "push the button" (even if he was mad enough which he may or may not be) t's not that simple.

Dweetfidilove · 07/04/2026 19:06

It's amazing that people still wave Trump's madness off with an - 'Oh, he's just bluffing'. He's bluffed all the way to this absolute madness since 2015, and he gets progressively worse in words and deeds.

And no President should be bluffing about wiping anyone out of civilisation.
If the Iranians or anyone other nation made such a threat, we'd be taking war directly to them before the mic dropped.

I don't understand why it's so hard to comprehend that with every single post, Trump puts all of us in danger. It will be the same idiots who believe the boats are dropping off sleeper jihadists into Western countries, that throw their hands up at his madness and say - 'nothing to see here'.
