Anyone else staying up to watch the launch to navigate the moon? I didn’t realise until this evening it’s the first launch in 5 decades!

If all goes well, when do they anticipate them landing on the moon?

As far as I understand this mission is to around the moon

Cheers to the brave astronauts and our dear dads xx

Absolutely! My Dad was a BBC journalist and was a correspondent all over the world but he always talked about the Apollo launch 💙

I don't know much about this but why did it look like it went up then looped down again? I would have thought it was just blasting up? Not being a tin foil hat person just genuinely confused. I'm watching on the nasa youtube

They are not landing I don’t think. They are doing a circuit around the moon before returning.

Onebattleafteramother · 01/04/2026 23:43

I believe their plans are a base on the moon to start running experiments

To clarify NASA in general, not this mission

BikeShmike · 01/04/2026 23:44

What, they're not landing!

They're gonna miss out on all that cheese!

It's pointless if so 😅

I think this mission is to go around the moon and see the other side that has never been seen..apologies if I am wrong 😑

Technology has changed so much since '72, but it's still an enormous challenge.

NedsAtomicWheelieBin · 01/04/2026 23:45

That's my understanding too @Nuffpills

Oh you mean ‘The dark side of the moon’? 😉

JumpinJehoshaphat · 01/04/2026 23:47

Amazing!

We have a holiday house over on the Gulf of Mexico. If the skies are clear, we can see the trail of shuttle launches. I’m gutted we’re not there to see this historic moment.

Mumtobabyhavoc · 01/04/2026 23:47

Yep! Just watched it here in Vancouver, CAN.

Jupiterx · 01/04/2026 23:47

Just watching it, did go outside like some idiot thinking maybe i just might see something in the syk.

What a shame 🥹

Spaghettea · 01/04/2026 23:48

Apparently it should take four days to get there and four days back.

No we have been around the moon before, as they orbited as part of the Apollo missions, but we haven't been around the moon since '72.
