What song did you walk down the aisle to?

My DD is getting married next year and we have been discussing songs for her to walk down the aisle to.

She is quite 'alternative' and not at all 'soppy' (her words not mine!) and doesn't want anything too lovey dovey.

So what did you chose and why? I may get some sneaky good ideas for her 😜

For reference when I married my DH I walked down to Chaka Khan 'Love Me Still'

God I feel awful that I can’t remember now. And it was only 10 years ago

JumpinJehoshaphat · 30/03/2026 19:25

Wagner’s Bridal Chorus is a pretty awful piece of music imo. My dad used to be the organist at his local church and he really hated playing it, but not many brides seem to walk in to it.

Imperial March (Darth Vader’s theme) from Star Wars

Pachelbel’s Canon in D Major

Purpledaisybug · 30/03/2026 19:29

A cover of Song Bird by Marti Pellow. Walked back out to Happy by Pharrel and played Electrical Storm by U2 when we signed the paperwork. Didn’t have a first dance as we only has 5 guests.

‘Song of Freedom’ from Dr Who!

You're the one for me fatty, by the Smiths.

No aisle to walk down, but I walked into the room at the registry office to Get Here by Oleta Adams.

GenerousGardener · 30/03/2026 19:32

Blue Savanna Song by Erasure.

Growlybear83 · 30/03/2026 19:33

I didn’t walk down the aisle because we got married in a register office but the song we had played when we arrived at the reception was Wedding Song by Bob Dylan.

Jojoanna · 30/03/2026 19:38

I can’t remember , it was too long ago ,, but it was something traditional

Talkingtomyhouseplants · 30/03/2026 19:39

I just had Pachelbel’s Canon in the end - we had hired a string quartet and as a little girl I remember watching father of the bride and thinking it was so wonderful I felt like it would be letting that little girl down if I didn’t have it.

However I was extremely close to having a string quartet cover of either Coldplay’s ‘Sky Full of Stars’ or ‘Something just like this’ by Coldplay and the chainsmokers, either of which I think would have been lovely too.

Talkingtomyhouseplants · 30/03/2026 19:43

Oh and we walked out to Hoppipola by Sigur Ros which was just gorgeous - it’s on the planet earth sound track so you would probably know it if you heard it even if you don’t by name

EstherGreenwood63 · 30/03/2026 19:45

A Thing Called Love by Johnny Cash.

radigator · 30/03/2026 19:48

La vie on Rose, Louis Armstrong version.

HollyGolightly4 · 30/03/2026 18:46

And vice versa @JumpinJehoshaphat no religious music allowed in a secular ceremony!

So I tried arguing Pachelbel was cultural rather than religious, but they weren't having it! So a lot of classical pieces are ruled out.

Piano version of Can't help falling in love with you for me

Why did they think Pachelbel’s Canon was religious?
I guess that’s a rhetorical question as you can’t go back and ask them but it’s just an instrumental piece!

GlassBellJar · 30/03/2026 19:52

Rusted Root - “send me on my way”. It’s such a brilliant upbeat happy song and not loveydovey at all!

We had a harpist play One Day Like This by Elbow

whatwasthatnoise · 30/03/2026 19:55

We got married in Scotland, I was piped down the aisle to Highland Cathedral. and out again (with DH) to Atholl Highlander.

If I were to get married again I'd choose The Luckiest by Ben Folds, or Fire In My Heart by Super Furry Animals.
