What song did you walk down the aisle to?

My DD is getting married next year and we have been discussing songs for her to walk down the aisle to.

She is quite 'alternative' and not at all 'soppy' (her words not mine!) and doesn't want anything too lovey dovey.

So what did you chose and why? I may get some sneaky good ideas for her 😜

For reference when I married my DH I walked down to Chaka Khan 'Love Me Still'

Walked in to ’Here, There & Everywhere’ by the Beatles. A friend sang ‘Grow Old With You’ from the Wedding Singer while we signed the vows. We walked out to Hall and Oates, ‘You Make my Dreams’ and the first dance was to ‘Heroes’ by David Bowie.

Can't help falling in love (the Ellie Goulding version as I wanted a woman singing it but I much prefer the original) to walk down, Bob Marley is this love for signing the register and The Temptations My Girl to walk out (DH choice)

Flower girls/page boys and bridesmaids walked into pachelbels canon in d and then I had ‘the one’ by kodaline…signed the register to beautiful piano version of ‘love story’ and then walked out together to ‘happy’ which my 8 year old nephew chose!

Arrival of the Queen of Sheba on the organ.

ReignOfError · 30/03/2026 20:12

Whiter of Pale (which is very Bach like), instrumental version, played on a church organ.

I love this! My favourite piece of pipe music. How lovely.

Additup · 30/03/2026 20:25

I was very traditional.
The Arrival Of The Queen Of Sheba by Handel from Solomon.

I’d have this

onyxtulip · 30/03/2026 20:38

November Rain by Guns & Roses! Love the music and it was November!

IloveJonBonJovi · 30/03/2026 20:38

Mr Big. Nothing but love. Big hair rock band but this song has a wedding sound to it.

I’m surprised that people haven’t heard ‘ here comes the bride’ at a wedding. I guess a lot changed in the 90s and when people could get married wherever they wanted to , it probably changed a lot of the dynamics around the music you had and so on.

Yes - Agree

all my cousins got married in the 80s and it was here comes the bride!

Theonewhogotthecake · 30/03/2026 20:42

Elgar’s Nimrod. We walked back up to the Up Film’s ‘Married Life’.

LotusMandala · 30/03/2026 20:43

Paradise by Coldplay

I had Arrival of the Queen of Sheba. A friend had Raindrops from Jupiter by Train, which worked well.

Yes that was my other suggestion - raindrops

Wecanagreetodisagree · 30/03/2026 20:45

Let there be love would be good

Spaghettion · 30/03/2026 20:48

Can’t help falling in love with you walking in and Better together by Jack Johnson at the end.
Some ideas for you..
Simply the best by Tina Turner or Always Be my baby Mariah Carey. They used a cover version of both songs in the Schitts creek wedding.
Baby can I hold you, Tracy Chapman, There’s a lovely version she did live with Pavarotti on YouTube.
Another idea that I think is quite cool is You’re so cool, Hans zimmer, it’s from True Romance and I think I saw an interview with Margo Robbie and she had it at her wedding.

Why did they think Pachelbel’s Canon was religious?
I guess that’s a rhetorical question as you can’t go back and ask them but it’s just an instrumental piece!

They said it was too connected with the church - and to be fair, I grew up Catholic and associate it with alleluia!

TheHouse · 30/03/2026 20:57

I had the pipes (Amazing Grace).

Wecanagreetodisagree · 30/03/2026 20:58

What about “happy heart”
Andy Williams - wait for the big crescendo

MrsT84 · 30/03/2026 21:05

I had Songbird by Fleetwood Mac. Our first dance was Nothing Else Matters by Metallica - we class that as "our song". Married 13 years today!

MustBeThursday · 30/03/2026 21:07

We had “Butterfly Waltz” by Brian Crain for walking down the aisle and a few other pieces of his for the other bits

CheeryOchreCat · 30/03/2026 21:15

Another one who had Pachelbel’s Canon in D Major, played on the organ.

Walked out to Widor’s Toccata.

A few years later, our child was born as Pachelbel was playing: planned CS so we brought in music, and they emerged during that piece!
